I love being a nurse, but after 40 years of Psychiatric Nursing (38)and Correctional Health (2) I am ready to do something else. Case Management sounds like something I might want to pursue.
So happy for you! Can you please pray for me to find a good bedside position. Im honestly just over working around so many toxic people. It’s not even my patients but coworkers. I feel like it’s taking a toll on me.
I lived in Southern CA, worked for an academic medical center as a critical care nurse for 7 years, got my 1st CM job as a concurrent review case manager for a managed care company in 2017 with no case management experience. It was a rough journey finding my 1st CM job. I got paid $49/hr as a bedside RN, but only got paid $39/hr at my 1st CM job.
If you don't have connections to get your 1st CM job, the best route to transition is keeping your full time bedside job & pick up a per diem position at a home health agency to get some case management experience...
Very helpful information. Just transitioned from 10+ years of bedside nursing to Case management and I love it! Wish I got into case management earlier.
I work in healthcare, but as a Physician Assistant I the UK (it is not reciprocated in the US unfortunately). Can I become a Case Manager and migrate to US from UK say, after two years in my hospital setting?
I am 1 yr 3 months in as RN CM. I love it.
This was great, very informative. Thanks!!!
