Always enjoy your videos. Man, I wish we could have hooked up before I moved away from Montana. While the fishing is great here in Southern Utah, it's mostly still water fishing. I'm not sure how effective your meal worm technique would work on these lakes.
Correct me if I am mistaken, but were you just drifting a worm with a tiny split shot? I'm heading that way soon and I'd love to know the best rod and reel methods
Correct! A mealworm to be exact. I use a 7' Cadence UL rod with a Cadence 1000 size reel. I also use Maxima 2lb test fluorocarbon line and a size 12 scud hook. Look though my other videos. It'll help.
Thank you so much Matt, I appreciate your feedback. Man I have been using night crawlers with a mealworm and a salmon eggs on 4lb line under a float and have been crushing it! Seeing you catch Slabs with drifting a mealworm only sounds good to me because they work obviously and then I don’t have to buy 3 baits and wipe the night crawler dirt if my hand lol! You make some entertaining videos my man, looking forward to more.
@@TangoCowabunga thanks so much bud ... good luck with it! I can say the 2lb test helped a ton! We've got some great vids still to release. Stay tuned and good luck this season!
Ok thanks! We're taking a trip out that way in August. Same six guys from all over the country fishing together every August for 20+ years. Need to figure out a way to get on that East Gallatin. Let me know if you have any ideas. Cheers!
Very similar to fly fishing. Helps feel the bounce during the drift and any soft takes ... and allows to take up any slack or stretch in the line during hook set.
Trip of a lifetime! Awesome video man
Ahhh felt like I was tagging along. Great video Matt!
You would dig it 100%

@@RealOutdoorsTV I'm going to be running 6lb fluorogreen pline on a 6'5 medium rod. Love the channel man keep uploading 👌🏽
@@piercemccullough2350 knock the line down to 4 or 2 ... it'll make a huge difference! Trust me. Tested it all. And PLine makes a great fluoro.
Cool video and cool fishing vest.
Like how you have rigged your net to it.
Any info where to get that make and model?
Net is a Fisknat ... hand made and can find online. The holder is just a net magnet u can find online.
Thank you so much Matt,

Did that section you fished on the East Gallatin require going through private land to access it?
Yes it did. We had landowner permission.

@Bryce Carlson will do! Sounds like a great time ... best of luck!!! The Jeff has some awesome "walk up" fishing. Might look into that.
Nice!!!!!
Thanks bud ... was an epic adventure! Good luck this season!
Great video! I'm curious, what were y'all doing holding the line with your hand?
Very similar to fly fishing. Helps feel the bounce during the drift and any soft takes ... and allows to take up any slack or stretch in the line during hook set.
Hi, are you still using Fenwick Elite Tech River Runner series rods ? Greetings, Robert.
Actually some of the guys left Fenwick and started Cadence ... the have a 7' UL I've been testing for a few yrs now. Its awesome!!!
So I’m going on vacation to fish in this river. I have never fished for trout before. What bait were you using?
Mealworms ... go to our home page on RUclips. There are many more videos on how we do this. One was filmed by Field & Stream. Good luck!!!
Not my kind of brown water LMFAO!
What can I say ... I like my brown water in a glass, not in my river ... lol!!!
Hey Matt,
Just to let you know that trout everywhere hang in the fast water. Not just in Montana bud 😂
