It’s very interesting to me, as a trained singer myself, majority of pop and theater singers tend to always be untrained and lack a good solid vocal technique. The problem with that, even though they sound good at the time, is that as our voices go through changes (puberty) and we get a whole new voice that we don’t really know how to manage. Things that were once easy eventually become incredibly difficult. That’s why, as singers, we need a professional vocal teacher who can guide us through those changes making sure we are doing it right. A lot of singers don’t like to be trained because of this crazy notion that if you’re trained it’s no longer a “natural gift.” Which, is incredibly ignorant and a huge disservice to their talent.

She also usually never sings a song live the same way twice and uses her runs in very creative ways. The reason she doesn’t do some songs live is like she said, the song is very rangy and she’s lost a lot of her range over the years and its just too much for her now. This video actually made me feel better about myself and I also learned things. I think it's important to realize that the best singers have the same flaws as we do and to not get discouraged from difficulties but rather learn from them.

This is the thing when you're a singer, in any capacity, you learn your voice because you have to and, for the most part, you can feel what is and isn't going to work!! I remember when I played Motormouth in a production of Hairspray, I got a cold the week before and my voice hadn't fully returned or recovered by the time the show came around, so I had to make changes to I Know Where I've Been in the moment depending on what I could feel I would or wouldn't be able to do and it worked out but man it was tough!!

This was such a helpful video. I think alot of singers out there have alot of issues with their voices that is rarely spoken about -whether it's insecurities or technical glitches. To know even professional singers can have these issues too makes the whole singing thing seem alot more human than it is generally taken for, so thank you.

When you're at 98-99% but you're still determined to hit 100 and kick yourself for coming up short. Like I bet Whitney Houston was like, "Damn I didn't get that note! Gotta work on that."
Seriously though I kind of love the people at the top picking at themselves because it humanizes them to little folk like me, and it just shows how insecure we all are, including the best in their art, and the amount of effort and ambition it takes to overcome it.

  • @clinteaston6000

She sang hurt at like the AMA or VMA’s. Any vocal line where she constantly hitting the 5th octave is ALWAYS gonna be hard for xtina. For example, the glide within is just not the easiest song for her.
