She may have a perfect technique but for some reason I've never been able to jive with her vocals. Her tone, pitch whatever you wanna call it is annoying to my ears or over hyped. Only 3 songs of hers are pleasing to my ears- "me, myself and I", ""fever" and "ring off". A handful of others I like because of the beat and production but not because of her voice.

One thing i noticed is that she used to really care about how her voice sounded pre 2010 . She experimented a lot with her voice and that was also before she started smoking. That was where she could've took more vocal lessons to kind of mature her voice and stop being nasal but instead i think after loud era she started smoking. After that she kind of didn't care how she sounded on stage most of the time. I don't know what weed does to your lungs as i have never smoked it but it sure did ruin her voice. Another thing i noticed about her is after anti her voice have become more mature and full which sounded good. I want vocalihanna on her next album.

The problem with Jlo is that she only uses one vocal mode, and lacks dynamics like there is not head voice, falseto, or melismas, nor deepness it’s just one color all the way, which makes it very predictable. That is why people get bored of her singing, not surprises. Her voice is not even that bad in some areas like she has potential specially her raspy voice on the high belts. She would benefit of a great dynamic vocal coach.
Jlo- Unfortunately she’s not born with that incredible unique tone. But for the music she puts out -it’s not too bad. She’s got good producers engineers and songwriters working with her

It’s funny bc the things that she’s most insecure about as an artist has nothing to do with her vocals but instead with her style, image and personality. Scooter Braun, as her manager, straight up told her what the music executives in the industry were saying about her-boring, too nice, vanilla, just a girl with her guitar she can’t do anything else etc-which ultimately set the tone for her first album. She has also spoken plenty of times about her struggle with comparing herself to other artists and admitted to thinking about singing or looking the way they do but ultimately knew that she couldn’t go through with it. What stuck with me was when she said she knew that it would be a longer route for her to “get there” if she stuck to her own style but she was content with that. I’m glad that she’s in a place now where she appreciates herself as herself ❤️

@Anne Day it’s interesting that you pointed out how she studies bc she def does when it comes to vocals, being classically trained and all, but as far as guitar goes, she taught herself relatively late at 15, didn’t take it seriously until she was 17-18 and plays strictly by ear. probably where that insecurity came from. that said, she’s definitely proficient and skilled enough, def beyond just beginner/intermediate level, plays a lot of jazzy chords, switches between strumming and picking within 2 seconds, comes up with her own arrangement etc. i mean she’s definitely not at H.E.R.’s level (then again who is? she’s a whole child prodigy) but she’s definitely a WAY more advanced player than say, justin bieber or something lmao. it’s just a shame that she doesn’t consider herself a good player when she certainly is. her reaction in that interview with babyface you mentioned was cute bc you could see how much it meant to her that babyface acknowledged her as not only a vocalist, but a musician as well, especially when he told her to play guitar on record instead of getting a guitarist to play it for her. just shows that he knows she’s a great player. honestly would love to see her try a guitar solo at some point bc i know she has it in her with just a little bit more practice 🥺

I knew Tori mentioned something about air conditioning too in her other interviews but I didn’t know the extent of it until I heard Whitney explain it. If I'm being honest, as a singer I cherish videos like this, not for any malicious reason or anything, but because it reminds me that the perfection I'm constantly trying to achieve and the insecurities I have about my voice are not a reason to give up. Bro, I never thought I'd hear any of the greats say they had insecurities or admit their flaws, but it just shows there's no reason for me to be so hard on myself and to just enjoy doing what I love.
11:00-11:30 is the attitude *every* professional singer needs to have, especially these young ones. How you take care of your voice when you're young will set you up well later in old age. It's good Miley is learning this now after having to get a surgery that was probably preventable. Jojo also had the right idea at just 15, talking about wanting to get a vocal coach to improve her craft.

I am glad to see Whitney speak on how AC affects the voice. Aretha had that in her contact that the AC could not be on when she was performing. Diva's 98 came close to her not performing on it because of that. I use to sing a two choirs as a featured soloist, I had that experience with the AC on and my throat dried out. Also JLo no one sings like Aretha Franklin. That is why she is a singers, singer!

tori damn well knew that her voice wasn’t annoying 🤣 she only said that bc the interviewer weirdly asked her if she thought her voice in that particular clip was annoying (he literally went “do you think u sound annoying there?” what??) since they were talking just a few minutes before about how simon said her voice was annoying during her American Idol audition. honestly i think tori’s pretty confident and secure in her vocals but she’s just too humble about it. if anything, she’s more insecure about her guitar playing for some reason and gets more visibly excited when someone tells her she’s a good guitar player vs when they tell her she’s a good singer lmaoo

It’s funny bc the things that she’s most insecure about as an artist has nothing to do with her vocals but instead with her style, image and personality. Scooter Braun, as her manager, straight up told her what the music executives in the industry were saying about her-boring, too nice, vanilla, just a girl with her guitar she can’t do anything else etc-which ultimately set the tone for her first album. She has also spoken plenty of times about her struggle with comparing herself to other artists and admitted to thinking about singing or looking the way they do but ultimately knew that she couldn’t go through with it. What stuck with me was when she said she knew that it would be a longer route for her to “get there” if she stuck to her own style but she was content with that. I’m glad that she’s in a place now where she appreciates herself as herself ❤️

@Anne Day it’s interesting that you pointed out how she studies bc she def does when it comes to vocals, being classically trained and all, but as far as guitar goes, she taught herself relatively late at 15, didn’t take it seriously until she was 17-18 and plays strictly by ear. probably where that insecurity came from. that said, she’s definitely proficient and skilled enough, def beyond just beginner/intermediate level, plays a lot of jazzy chords, switches between strumming and picking within 2 seconds, comes up with her own arrangement etc. i mean she’s definitely not at H.E.R.’s level (then again who is? she’s a whole child prodigy) but she’s definitely a WAY more advanced player than say, justin bieber or something lmao. it’s just a shame that she doesn’t consider herself a good player when she certainly is. her reaction in that interview with babyface you mentioned was cute bc you could see how much it meant to her that babyface acknowledged her as not only a vocalist, but a musician as well, especially when he told her to play guitar on record instead of getting a guitarist to play it for her. just shows that he knows she’s a great player. honestly would love to see her try a guitar solo at some point bc i know she has it in her with just a little bit more practice 🥺
