Subsidise or subsidize?
@@nurhankozluca3171 In British English it's 'subsidise'. In American English it's 'subsidize' 😀
@@bbclearningenglish thank you.
Thank you
There might be a lot of power cuts and poor ventilation in slums, and people will be sweating. Daily wage earners cannot work because it's too hot, then there will be no money. Luckily, painting houses white could help lower the temperature. Also, external funding for the painters allows them to subsidise the cost, and everyone can afford it.

ALL THE BEST FOR YOU ^^
Very thorough :)
Thankyou so much ❤
I think Greece also painted their roofs white to be cool.
The shape of 'jaali' is very beautiful, and it can also protect your house from burglars.
Good video! Thanks all.
I need to give you both a huge Thank You for this new podcast that is much more than teaching English as I certainly get a bit knowledge about what’s going on in India. I never realize that some Indians still need to tackle power outage in the year 2023. This newest podcast will make me to look at things from a different perspective. Thank you!

Because of unprecedented heatwaves, people in the south east of Morocco rushed to stores to buy air conditioners. Most of the people here don't have a stable job. They are daily-wage-earners. Some of them work in construction sites while others work in mining industry.
No, too hot this summer 😊😊😊😊
Stay safe stay healthy and happy
Congratulations on the great videos which help us improve our English. I would suggest you record the videos showing the people speaking and explaining the vocabulary on the background just like you did on the one about the "Power nap". Thanks

I'm from South Spain, specifically from one of the two hottest cities. It is impossible to live more here during Spring and Summer. However, I remember that, when I was a child, weather wasn't so extreme...😭😭😭😭😭😭 White doesn't help us so much, unfortunatelly xD.
Oh thats sounds very difficult. Do people try and move somewhere cooler for the summer?
@@bbclearningenglish Yes! If we have enough money, we travel faster to the North. But, if you can't...this is a nightmare :(
☀️
I'm afraid that the future (if we have any future 😜) will be very very Hot. I live in Spain (South Spain) so I'm used to Heatwaves.. But there's something new about the latest heatwaves... They last longer and "the mellow Autumn".. Is not mellow any more. Just Hot or Cold. I don't fancy spoiling your day but it looks like.. The Future has begun.. Already 🔮
Sorry to hear that :(
I have a big problem in learning the English language, although I try a lot, but I fail quickly, so I ask for help from those who have experience in this difficult language. I want to speak, and I have a passion and determination to pass that language..I am an Arab young man living in Egypt and writing that comment through the translator. I want the right way to learn, even if it is through conversation with those who have mastery of that language..Please help
Start with Z AmericanEnglish he has a lot of courses starting from zero

Dog days are back with a bang here in India. August is the monsoon season here and climate is supposed to be pleasant. But we have been reeling under sweltering heat since the end of February as if this were an extended summer. Power black outs have become the order of the day ,especially in rural India. Power outages mean non-functioning of energised motors that are meant to extract ground water to irrigate rain dependent crops or crops in areas where the assured mode of water supply is erratic. The situation comes to such a pass that most crops wither away, throwing poor farmers deep into debt trap. The less we talk about the subsidies ,the better. Inferior seeds partly fail to germinate, adulterated manures fail to fertilise and phoney pesticides keep the pests alive resulting in either very little agricultural yield or total crop loss. Farmers who borrowed money from loan sharks at exorbitant interest rates for cultivation bear the brunt of this vicious cycle.More often than not, these subsidies are syphoned off by touts and middle men with false identities leaving the targeted beneficiaries, mostly poor farmers, in the lurch. The above contents are my personal opinion and not meant to denigrate or defame any individual/agency/institution.Thank to BBC for this informative video highlighting some of the prevailing conditions in India.
Sorry to hear about this situation - we hope things get more comfortable soon.🤞
I hate the hot weather. It's dangerous staying outside recenyly in the summer, the heatwave is killing people and other creatures around the world. the hottest time is 1 pm to 3pm, I can't bear the sunlight and heat more than 5 minutes outside without shade.
That's sounds very difficult. Is cooler weather expected soon?
What's a sweaty question?
The hottest country in the world is Uzbekistan. an average temperature in my city it's 45-50 during summer
As a Méxican I see this as an absolute meh
50°C 🤣
I have a confession to make.......
🥵🥵🥵🥵🥵🥵🥵
I couldn't understand a word the Indian woman was saying
You can turn the subtitles on if you have trouble understanding :)
