Please people in the comments who are fans op Sophie, do not interact with transphobes who are only here to disrespect her and piss you off. Please just report those comments and don't reply to them. You will not change their minds, it only fuels them to spout more hate. Pay them no mind. This music is undoubtedly amazing and she has had a massive impact on music today and her influence will be felt for many years to come. No amount of hate will ever change that. Rest in power Sophie

I remember the first time I listened to this album. Right when 'It's okay to Cry' started, I was thinking 'good'; then the 'Ponyboy-Faceshopping' segment, I thought 'YES'; then 'Is it Cold in the Water', I thought "THIS IS IT'. When 'Infatuation' was happening, I already had fallen in love with her music, I was infatuated, just to make the pun. By the end of the album, I said to myself: 'I want this woman to produce more music, I need to know more from her, I need to listen to her mind, I need to undestand her production methods, this is too good, so feminine, so sensitive, so fragile, so powerful, so human, so artificial, so plastic, so perfect'.
And now she's gone. Lesson to everyone who reads this: Appreciate life, humans are frail, we can die at any moment.
Sophie deserved better, Sophie deserved to extent her dominions. However, It is comforting to say that she passed away by one of the most poetic reasons, it is almost like a surreal portrayal of departure: she died by trying to reach the moon.
I can imagine a most beautiful way to leave earthly existence, than passing away by trying to reach the beauty of nature.
We have lost today. Forever missed, loved, and celebrated. Thank you and goodbye.

    • @mw8157
      @mw8157 3 года назад +22

Also I remember that the first time I listened to this album I was looking for pictures of Paul Delvaux (a belgian surrealist painter), who constantly used images of beautiful women and the moon as symbols in his work. I will always remember Sophie when I encounter with his paintings.

The very first breath of our creator took, it’s melody became the very first sound mentioned in Genesis. The first note, the catalyst to all that came into being. Every universe, every star, every planet, everything down to the smallest speck of dirt each with its own sound, but it was the moon who in the end completed the melody to the song of creation. That is how the moon became the inspiration to artists , so it is fitting that the first full moon should be called Sophie’s moon.

I haven't stopped thinking about her for the past 6 months. She genuinely helped me admit to myself something I've known for 10 years but was too afraid to ever say out loud: I am queer. I am genderfluid. I am me, and I deserve to feel unapologetically proud of my identity. It's still extremely hard sometimes, but SOPHIE is the guiding light to my inner happiness and acceptance of myself, and the outward projection of free-spirited energy and unending love.
I strive to one day make a sonic architecture that would make SOPHIE proud. It's one of the things that keeps me going every day. She is the eternal gift that keeps on giving, and I hope that somehow, any of us, her disciples, will build upon the foundation she created for us.
I love you, SOPHIE. To whichever plane of existence you've transcended, I hope you've found the eternal sense of peace and euphoria that you preached on Earth. Thank you.

When I was about fourteen, I heard HARD for the first time. I was amazed by what I heard. I thought, “holy shit, this is one of the most inventive songs I have ever heard in my life... and it’s made by a GIRL?!?! WOAH, I want to make music as cool as this!” Ever since then, she had a subtle but ever present influence on me as a musician and producer.
When I was about eighteen in college and in one of the worst depressive episodes of my life, SOPHIE had just released “It’s Okay To Cry,” simultaneously coming out to the public. As a very baby trans who was struggling heavily, the song and video were so meaningful to me. I think I listened to that song literally at least five or ten times a day, some days a lot more than that. When I was deciding on a name, I was even seriously considering choosing Sophie. I eventually settled on naming my future dog Sophie, which I still plan on doing.
One of the most creative forces in music and fashion, as well as one of my greatest influences and inspirations as a musician and as a woman, has been fucking taken away from us all before she even turned thirty-five.
Things have been so difficult and shitty for the past year that it seems hard to be moved by much these days. But right now? I’m fucking devastated.
Inna lillah wa inna ilayhi raaji'uun.

I'm a trans artist as well and although our works are significantly different stylistically (I make harsh noise) her work resonates with me and makes me feel empowered and seen. I had no idea there even was an experimental pop artist/producer who was Grammy-nominated and also happened to be trans. That's huge news to me!!! I want to smile listening to this right now but instead I'm crying. I feel empowered learning of her but weak at the same time because she's gone now. We are trans. We are proud. its so weird to think now that shes gone. ive never even got into her music but now im here and crying. i just lost it at the first song.
its almost like i miss her. i just find it weird that an artist that i didnt even give much of a thought to when they was still with us could affect me such a way. like, ive heard of them and have listened to their music before but i never really became a fan or whatsoever. still, im mourning. i feel out of place. it was so sudden when id first heard that theyd passed and i wanted to cry. but id held back cause it didnt feel like it was my place to mourn. it didnt feel right for me to cry about it. then the song "its okay to cry" spoke to me i guess, and i finally did.
i wish id appreciated her work much more, when she was still here with us. a little too late now i guess. but regardless, rest in peace, sophie. you and your work will always have a special place in my heart. and i hope that you did get the prettiest view of the moon after all.

Also, even if he was specifically a democratic socialist, that's definitely more of a left-leaning posture than a right-leaning one (although I suppose that depends on your sociopolitical context and the Overton window). I like this album a lot, but trying to downplay the importance of 1984 and Brave New World and the role of identity as a theme in both works is ludicrous. Its so sad she had to go so soon. It was so sudden and she didn’t deserve it, she was a huge inspo to me and all my friends, her music is my comfort music and this is so painful that we won’t hear any new releases or anything. She was so different and creative and elegant with what she did, RIP SOPHIE

A pillar of our community is gone and my heart aches. The amount of talent, inspiration and artistry we've just lost is monumental. "OIL OF EVERY PEARL'S UN-INSIDES" seen SOPHIE design masterful experimental music from scratch and align it with the themes of her fantasies and pain and spirituality to create art like no one has never heard or will fully appreciate for decades. What a perfect gift to leave to the world, truly. I wish she didn't have to go, but this album proved she always transcended the mundane binary of life on Earth, and now she's just moving on to tend to other beings. I find comfort in the fact that she encouraged a legion of trans artists to believe that they could make it by creating their own art, all of which are now following in her wake to continue what she started. I will always cherish this album and the burning passion that lives inside of it. Immortal through art.
Rest in Power SOPHIE XEON, I love u Forever ❦

I’ve genuinely never been more heartbroken in my life. I’ve loved you for so long. Your music has always made me feel so relaxed and happy with who I am as a person. You trail blazed the industry and inspired so many people within the LGBTQ+ community, including myself. We needed you. We had you. You gave us everything. You will live through all of us with your hard work, art and powerful music. 🤍 Rest in power, your light will always shine.

talented, brilliant, incredible, amazing, show stopping, spectacular, never the same, totally unique, completely not even been done before, unafraid to reference or not reference, put in a blender, shit on it, vomit on it, eat it, give birth to it.

I come here anytime I'm frustrated with life. The sheer rawness of emotions indescribable to the human tongue is so rampant in Sophie's music. It gives me so much life and strength.

it's been 6 months since her passing, and it still hurts so much. sophie, you are always going to be my ultimate inspiration. your raw honesty, your wit, your tenderness, made you one of the most phenomenal artists, and people, on this planet. i'm sure that it's still the case wherever you are now.

What an amazing Album, so glad I found it.
The sound arrangement is like some warm, enveloping blanket; like some tingly ASMR music.
So sad, that an amazing artist like Sophie couldn't stay with us a little longer!

i'm so sorry to all the people who found comfort in sophie's music and her art and presence. i'm only just listening to her but she had been on my radar for years. i'm cis but have found so much love and community with trans and nb people, and i feel their pain too right now. i hope anyone who's reading this that is questioning, or has yet to come out, or can't come out, that you feel loved and know that there are people who understand and love you as you are.

If she produced chromatica, it would've had the same fate as ARTPOP even this music NOW is farrr beyond it's time. But omg chromatica would have been interdimensional. This is my first time listening to her music.
