Hey guys! I made this video since a lot of people ask "How I made Kauai happen?" or "What do you do for work in Kauai?" This video will explain all that! From my journey in CA and losing almost everything during the financial crisis to moving and making a living today in Kauai! It's not been an easy journey, but I hope my story helps guide some of you to push through the difficult times in life - when you feel tired and like giving up - don't give up!
    Thanks for watching and enjoy!

This was a great explanation of how you and your husband have been able to afford to live in Kauai on the North Shore. Not boring at all! I'm hoping to make the same move within the next 12 months. Even living in Newport Beach, California, the congestion of Southern California and the state politics have become overwhelmingly oppressive.

Thank you so much! I know I can talk a lot and I like to explain things in detail. Yes - SoCal and American in general is getting very wild and divided. I feel like there is no middle ground to anything. Everyone seems to have to be put on one side or another. Let me know if you have any questions that I can help with. Shoot me an email yourhostj@gmail.com if you'd like

@@YourHostJ A big thanks for your kind and interesting reply! Perhaps you know who the late neurobiologist Dr. Candace Pert was. I remember in an interview in a "Sounds True" CD recording some years back, when with regard to the dystopian culture we're now living in, she was asked: "what do we do now"?
Surprisingly, as an elite scientist whose husband just won the Nobel Prize, she said that the only advice she'd have is to get back to Nature. That Nature has the most light, not humans and their artifacts.
All that to say, you and your family made a great decision. I'm working on getting back into Nature too, this time in Kauai. I just sent you an email. In that email I explained that two of my friends may contact you about buying property on Kauai.
I hope Kevin will contact you right away. He lives in Kahala right now, but was raised, like me, in Laguna and Newport Beach. He's big into the Hawaiian watersports.

I came across your Kauai videos this morning. To be honest, I assumed that you could afford to live there because you married a rich guy. It turns out that I was wrong. You two have earned your slice of Paradise. I have my own slice of Kauai reserved for me (and some others)--you would be surprised if I told you where. Thanks for your videos and congratulations to you and your family.

Thank you so much for you kind comment and maybe we'll one day bump into each other...who knows. The island is so small! Also, thanks for watching. Very much appreciated ❤️

Hey Edgar! Thank you so much for your kind message! It really puts a smile on my face hearing that my video is offering a bit of inspiration for you. LA is a great market to get into for real estate - but you have to hustle! One thing I learned in my earlier days as an agent is always pick up the phone and always get back to clients if you do miss the call. I'm sure it will be different now with the pandemic - but knock door to door and hand out businesses cards - don't just throw them in the mailbox and always follow up a couple of months later to keep in touch. People love seeing a hard worker. You'll be great!
Glad you are coming to visit the island and I'm so happy to hear you'll be following my itinerary. Let me know your experience once you've done it. Would love to hear all about it. Thanks so much for watching and good luck on your exam! ❤️

Hi J, what a great video! This was so helpful because I'm in the same spot you were at in the beginning - on the long road of savings! I'm asking myself if it will ever end haha. I'm a software engineer in Phoenix Arizona and my dream is to move to Kauai and live a simple life in the jungle - trying to buy rental properties so I can do exactly what you did. This really spoke to me today.
I'm struggling to buy my first rental at current market rates but I have faith! You've given me hope to stay on the war path - thanks for all the great content. Cheers

Hey Logan! Just want to say thank you so much for writing the kind comment. It's funny how sometimes the universe throws us things that hit us because it's just perfectly timed. I'm so glad you enjoyed my video and it was motivational for you. It feels like a long road, trust me. There are times when it feels tough and you may wonder if it's all worth it, but I feel as though it is. We say we feel lucky to live here, but it wasn't luck that brought us here. If you keep pushing and stay focused - you'll get to your goal. Yes - you may find a diamond in the rough for an investment, but I'd wait a few months because I have a feeling these prices won't last forever. With lots of reading and listening to others who know their stuff - I think summertime is when home prices will start softening. Keep looking, keep your head up, and I look forward to hearing from you again when you buy your first place! You can always message me if you have any questions too - it would be my pleasure to help you out 😊

Hi, J! Wonderful video! Thank you for this content. My husband and I fell in love with Kauai and we are seriously thinking about moving there. However, our son is autistic. He is on the higher end of the spectrum, but he is receiving lots of therapy and has an IEP from his school. I feel like Kauai can bring him so much sensory experiences that probably can't be attained here as much. Can you possibly do a video for families in this situation? I know there's an Easterseals in Lihue, but it looks more like a house than an office like they have here in the mainland. Mahalo nui loa!

Hi J C! My son is also autistic and on the high-end of the spectrum. He's been on an IEP since kindergarten and I've loved how amazing the school has been. He's made huge leaps since the beginning. I feel as though Kauai - in terms of environment - has been wonderful for him. He gets all his services as school - does your son get services off campus or at home? I'm not too familiar with those settings, but can say the team on island has been wonderful. Why don't you reach out to the Easter Seals on island and see how you feel about just a phone meeting? Maybe they can answer many of your questions better than I can. Thanks so much for watching! ❤️

@@YourHostJ @Your Host - J Ahhh! Mahalo for answering my questions, J! 🙏 It's so nice to know your son is doing well and thriving in Kauai, especially you guys have a great team! As for the environment, I want that for my son, too. The slower pace seems so great in encouraging to learn more at their time rather than the fast-paced environment that mainland mostly brings. Your answers gave me hope in the possibilities of my family and I moving there. My son gets both in-home/office therapies through Easterseals (through Kaiser) along with public school here. I already tried contacting Easterseals Kauai and no one answers. I can try again, though. Maybe they'll be responsive once Kaiser gets into play. Hope you and your family are doing well! Love the videos -- keep 'em coming! 🙌🙌🙌

@@jc9303 😂 That's Kauai for you! You have to be persistent sometimes with getting ahold of people - no matter what the company/profession is. I'd try contacting all three Kauai locations: www.eastersealshawaii.org/locations/
If that doesn't work - contact via social networks (located at the bottom of their website)
      Lastly - call & email corporate: www.eastersealshawaii.org/contact-us/
If you move here - you'll start getting used to this type of system. But - once everything is setup and good to go - they are all super on it. We have our yearly meeting and everyone is truly just amazing.

Thanks for watching, John! Yeah - eating out in our family is considered a luxury. I know restaurants have to make a profit - but everything is marked up so high - especially in Hawaii!
We've been digging this brand "Hunza" lately. Here is a link to the lentils that we always buy:
      www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07RGLMQ6L/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_image?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I can't vouch for all of their beans - but the lentils, garbanzo, and cannellini ones are great! I have an instant pot and use it almost every single day and always cook my beans in it. What's great about beans too - especially garbanzo - they are versatile!

@Matt McManiac You literally put it together way better than I did 😂 But - budgeting and writing down all your expenses is a big first step. One of my old tenants bought my CA property she was living in. I helped her with looking at all her expenses and we trimmed down everything quite a bit and she was able to buy my place. She still owns it all these years later ❤️

You said in another video that you are from Mass. It could not have been east Mass. You don't have Bostonian accent. Sounds more like western Mass.

I'm born and raised Fall River - very East MA. All my friends have a strong Bostonian accent. Mine only comes out when I'm upset or back home for a while. Then again, my friend on island said he heard it yesterday when we were at dinner. Maybe because Portuguese was my first language I didn't get the accent as heavy. Who knows! Thanks for watching ❤️

Hey Jim, did you watch my video in full? I wasn't rich to begin with, actually had to build from nothing to get there. It wasn't easy, but that's why I wanted to share my story because I want people people to reach for their goals and learn you have to sacrifice and be driven to achieve those goals.

Confused? Is the "we" mentioned so often might be your husband or boss or lover or all three? Maybe a friend because you don't want to be a bad example for impressive young women or violate the Ten Commandments or end up old without anyone except alot.of chickens.

    • @YourHostJ
      @YourHostJ  Год назад +1

Hey Tom - "we" is my partner. We aren't married, but definitely been together too long to call boyfriend. We also have kids together - so again - strange to call boyfriend,. We are definitely life partners, lovers, and nobody is the boss of anyone. I've worked very, very hard on my own things and he has worked very hard on his own things. We've both been through the life of working late, little to no sleep, sacrifice, etc. I hope I do set an example to young women, I've definitely violated the Ten Commandments, and won't end up alone....but will end up old like all of us. Only 2 chickens for me. Thanks for watching

Surprised it upsets you so much. Many parts of the world call their husbands/boyfriends partner. We have been together way too long to be calling each other boyfriend/girlfriend and we have children together and we aren't married so.... I call him "partner", my man, my dude, whatever. He's my life partner and we are actual legal partners in everything (business partners and "domestic partners" in many states). Anyway, 🤷‍♀️ Thanks for watching....I think 🤔😂

i lived in honolulu for 12 years and experienced right away how expensive everything was becoming. after college, i left to visit paris, hooo, i came back wishing i had never lived in hawaii. nah! hawaii is beautiful. sadly, one say i did end up leaving. will i ever go back? neva'! sad to say but i just know i cannot afford to live there. age is or has now become the issue. tada! no longer employable, wether i like it or not. doing so much better in new york, even if cost of living is the sane. no moa' beautiful beaches or kalua pork (luaus). traveling the world costs me half. et cetera. thank you auntie for sharing your truths. smart you, eh? 🌴🌴 ALOHA! *my apartment in diamond head quadrupled in price. crazy!
