Great review. I'm in the UK and watching it tonight. It's my favourites book. If you enjoyed it, try the the 2 part Three Musketeers movies they made last year. They are making a follow up TV series .
Thanks a lot! Let me know what you think about the film!
@vinwriteswords to put this into context, it's my all time favourite book. Honestly the movie is a masterpiece. The cinematography is immense, beautiful scenery. The story is faithful and the acting incredible. I absolutely adore this movie.
@@BentzensEmporium YEAH!!! I'm so glad you loved it too! It's one of my favorites of the year as well
I genuinely didnt know how i felt about the movie. You touch on some good points about how they conveyed the gravity of the story really well. I thought so too. But I also thought there were a lot of cliche scenes Id seen multiple times before in hollywood. Also thought there were some haphazard character introductions/development. I did feel like there were some very cool scenes and ofcourse its an epic but It was a mixed bag leaning towards good. As you alluded to they couldve layered different stages of the story a bit better
Thanks for watching! Yeah, well said. I think they accelerated through the book fairly quickly and I would have liked a little more time to flesh out the world and the characters, like a limited TV series format or as a two part movie.
One of my favourite books. Can’t wait to see it. Great review!
Thank you! I hope you enjoy the movie 🙏
The same production on the film did also the count od Monte cristo 8 epizode seried ( British language ) thst is coming later this year
Awesome, thanks! It'll be fun to compare all the different versions
Try to watch the French miniseries The Count of Monte Cristo (1979) with Jacques Weber and Denys de La Patellière as director. He is the father of Alexandre de La Patellière who is one of the directors of the new film. The 1979 miniseries is infinitely better than the new film. We have Noirtier de Villefort, Maximilien and Valentine, we have the plot of the poisons, Luigi Vamp, Bertuccio, there is no stupid romance between Haydee and Albert, Haydee only loves the count. Denys de La Patellière made a better adaptation than his son.
Thank you for watching! I appreciate that. I definitely want to dive into the other adaptations in the future. A friend also recommended the 1998 4-part miniseries with Gérard Depardieu. What do you think about that one?
@@vinwriteswords I've already watched this version, I've watched all the French versions, since the 1918 version, as well as other adaptations.
@@roman1183 That's so cool! I need to catch up on all the different versions. Starting with 1979!
Horrible 2002 version
@@vinwriteswordswith Depardieu it is always excellent...the best version after the pierre niney version
I'll reserve my opinion as the 2002 version was quite good except for the Superman scenes 😅
Haha yeah I do think there are advantages to both versions. The new movie goes a lot deeper into the book's drama in the second half whereas the 2002 movie wraps up the story a little more simply
I never liked comic book heroes. And the Count being someone ambitious, vengeful and cruel, concerned with himself, made me love him. Like Julius Caesar, the Count has boundless ambitions and stepping on everyone is what made me like him. The Count even makes alliances with bandits (Vampa) to fulfill his desires. Just like Caesar who made several alliances to fulfill his ambitions.
Yes! I really like how he's not 100% perfect either, and I think the new film does a much better job at showing his flaws than the 2002 Hollywood film did
@@vinwriteswords On December 11th, the series The Count of Monte Cristo with Sam Claflin premieres in France.
@@roman1183 Perfect, thanks! I'll try to catch it then 🙏
The Richard Chamberlain Count Of Monte Cristo was better than the 2002 version.
So many great adaptations! I'm curious how the 2024 movie will compare to the 1975 movie for you
Im french and i know every version after the second war and 2002 version is horrible like quint for marquis de Sade the 2024 version of montecristo is the best version even if it's différent from the book
@@signefurax933 I'm really glad you think so! What were the most significant differences for you?
Period locations, costumes, sets, photography, lighting effects, music, closer to the spirit of the Novel and Pierre Niney is the best French actor at the moment and many other things... They put the money into this film and it shows! It's epic!@@vinwriteswords
@@vinwriteswordsu mean différence between the 2002 version and 2024 version or the 2024 version with the book ?
Where can i watch it! Please !
Check your local theaters! It's still rolling out in countries across Europe and around the world
