Beautiful. I worked at an Eagle’s grocery store in Central Illinois 1977-1986. The manager would start the tape cartridge to play music like this when he arrived in the morning. As a young fella, I hated it at the time. Now my eyes well up with tears when I hear it, realizing we will never see times like that again. Thank you very much for the upload 👍🏻
You mention a grocery store: these sounds take me back to pre-'75, when I was just a little guy, walking around the local IGA with Mom and my even littler brother.
Snuggybear you are right this music was calculated to keep people's mood elevated so they would have a more positive shopping experience. There is a contrast between this and the depressing junk you hear nowadays constantly.
@@trainzmarcel2074 I have several friends that will not patronize a store (leave the store, in fact) if the music is too loud or "tasteless pop music" is played, as you described. Bring back Musak - I think it would be a welcome throw-back! I absolutely love it so much that my colleague and I listen to it every day at work. I'm so grateful that she likes it as much as I do. Cheers! Thank you Fardemark for sharing this fantastic music with us.
Musak wafting from the speakers in the elevators. My mom listening to it on the radio. Ah, those were the good ol' days. No wonder everybody was calm, cool and collected!
We had a radio station called FM100 that played exactly this kind of music. Now that station plays the same AC “lite fm” garbage that about 6 or 7 other stations in my city (Chicago) play. If I won mega millions this past summer, I would have brought back FM100. Yes, srsly.
The world was far more lawless back then. The amount of serial killers and hitchhiking culture etc... it's great to look back fondly on the past, not everyone can, but it's so exhausting seeing older people passive aggressively imply my generation are out of control. People are people, times change but people don't become worse than you.
I like to drive around on my mobility scooter while playing this aloud. Pleasant soundtrack to a drive in the city; especially at night when the city's all hushed & atmospheric.
This reminds me of the music we played in the lobby of the Howard Johnson's Motor Lodge I used to work at in the late 60s/early 70s😊 thanks so much for posting this it's awesome to listen to 😉
I am currently restoring a Seeburg 1000 BMS and enjoyed this video and the comments. I would like to add something if I may; Seeburg offered a "timer option" that would install inside the unit and it could be programmed to play a specific number of songs and then shut off for 15 minutes or so. It worked by "listening" for the silence between the selections. This is why one song doesn't fade into the next. Also, every record always had exactly 20 selections. The mechanism would hold 25 records, and with 20 selections per side, doing the math gives the magic number of "1000". A self-contained phonograph that could sit on a shelf, holding one thousand selections......pretty impressive for 1960.
I love how much of these old recordings of what kids today don't know about people still have. I was born in the 70s so I do recall a bit of this being played in malls and such.
Thanks so much for uploading this volume (and all volumes!). This is the music I grew up listening to, which at the time I tried to avoid like the plague. But, the family home was a tiny bungalow, so when it was playing in the living room, it was hard to avoid. As a middle aged man, I've come to appreciate how talented these musicians were and how clever the arrangements were. It's unfortunate the current generation has nothing to compare to this style of music. Someone in the comments section suggested that "mid-century Easy Listening (music) is derided as TOO WHITE." Sad to say, I agree. I say that's sad because good music transcends race and culture and can be appreciated by anybody who takes the time to expose themselves to it.
👍👍This is the kind of stuff I play under my town's cable channel bulletin board. I so miss this in stores and restaurants. Here in the NYC metro there were once at least a half dozen stations that played this "beautiful" aka "elevator" / "dentist's office" music. Now they're gone, all playing the Safe 300 soft pop tunes. 😞
I worked at a Kmart in the 70s and 80s. This sounds like the music they played there, except when it was Christmas season. My dad was a big band musician who also played music like this as well. Thanks for making it available to the public!
In England this music is less synonymous with shopping and more associated with the Trade Testcard Transmissions from the 1960s, 70s and 80s = for the days when the telly was always breaking down and a bang on the top didn't always sort it out. The telly repair man was a pretty regular visitor back then - probably why so many/most people rented their sets.
Congratulazioni per questo video. Musica bellissima che in tutta la sua semplicità scalda il cuore. Forse i nostri genitori e nonni avevano ragione. Non serve poi molto per sentire quella serenità che occorre a ognuno di noi. Specie in questo periodo. Grazie. Congratulations on this video. Beautiful music that in all its simplicity warms the heart. Maybe our parents and grandparents were right. It doesn't take much to feel the serenity that each of us needs. Especially in this period. Thanks.
Very nice music. I like your paraphernalia in the video as well...I used to hear this as a kid at my Grandparents on their beautiful Grundig radio.... 👍🏻😊
