    There's a clever way to locate where your exhaust leak(s) is coming from: reverse your shop vac so it's blowing not sucking and hook it up to your exhaust pipe (plug the second pipe if you've got dual exhaust). Then spray soapy water all over your manifold and you'll see little soap bubbles anywhere there's a leak.

    I did this on a 97 Camry with the stock exhaust (in Canada, rust like crazy). The tubing, resonator, muffler and cat body are all high grade stainless but the flanges are carbon steel.
    Only the flanges had rust damage, I used a drill and wire wheel to get most of the rusted stuff out, put on JB Weld into the cracks and crevices of the flanges, let it cure and then used aluminum tape to seal over the cement (to hold it in place from vibrations, etc.)
    Works like a charm until I replace the flanges.

    Has the Manifold/Exhaust Fix held up? up to date

  • @ronaldziehm7745
    @ronaldziehm7745 2 года назад +31

    why would you do that to your exhaust/manifold connection point? A donut gasket costs basically nothing, and by taking a few minutes to unhook a few exhaust hangers, you could easily have dropped the forward exhaust the 2 to 2 and a half inches it would have taken to clear the Rons (oh I meant to say studs, but same thing 😉). Then just reach up and remove any remnants of the old gasket, slide to the new donut gasket on its place, and slip the exhaust back over the studs of the manifold. Finger tighten the nuts then reattach the exhaust hangers. Once the hangers are attached, loosen nuts again, gently give the exhaust a shake or two in each direction (up & down and side to side), to make sure exhaust isn't twisted on the studs and sits flush. Re-tighten nuts to stud bolts, and bob's your uncle.

Most blowby occurs when exhaust gas enters the crankcase by going past the piston rings while other sources include turbochargers. ... Air, fuel, and other contaminants will slip into the crankcase and cause all types of problems. Ok rookie? Apology accepted, rookie.

      depending on what state you live in, you might get away with no muffler, nw indiana does emissions testing, and my 2000 toyota hasnt has a muffller in nearly 15 years. since they obd 2 test it, I show up literally like 5 mins before they close, and know they are in a hurry to close n go home, everytime without fail, they just plug me in, say cool you passed and i get grab the paper from em and haul it outta there before they realise they passed me with no muffler cause they failed to do a undercarrage check

    Yeah lets see you stop a leak where the manifold meets the block then we’ll be impressed.

    First of all, you have leaking all over, moffler other pipes are cracked and probably your catalytic converter as well, those are easy fix, but if your manifold exhaust is leaking that staff epoxy or any staff out there never will, the only way to fix it is to take it out and put a new gasket in it, and the best gasket you can do is permatex or any other product that can do the same, that epoxy thing is just gonna add more frustration

    well i just found out that my exhaust manifold have 2 broken bolts on the driver side and i have to change the bolts and of course change the gasket but i'm going to put a better gasket so i don't have to do the job again. so let me ask you this it's best if i do both sides instead of just doing one side. the passenger side is good but i want to change the bolts to stainless bolts and change the gasket so i can be straight so please help me out

    What happens when it’s time to take that apart? Seems like you caused a bigger problem for later days. I’m no mechanic though.

      Pry bar should snap it, it’s strong stuff but a metal pry bar is stronger

    Just buy a new donut gasket, if the bolts are stuck, wd-40 or heat the bolts up with a torch so they expand and become loose.

    It does not work I used this stuff about four times now, the heat from the headers will eventually melt this stuff off and then you will have to do it again and again. Do yourself a favor and just fix it right the first time the right way.

    OR...You can just remove the 3 nuts and put a new gasket in there which costs $10 (I bought one today for my Suburban) and fix it right which will last for many, many years or decades.
    You spent the same amount of money to "fix it" the wrong way where it won't last very long at all. I don't understand peoples short cuts instead of doing it right when the cost is the same.
    If something costs $500 to do it right and you dont have the money by all means take short cuts.
