I totally agree with you Rick Willis. He was and still is my favorite singer of all time. And it'll be very hard for anyone to ever compare to him far as I'm concerned. Always a Keith Whitley Fan, from Wisconsin
I was on my way home from work when I heard of his death on the radio--I started shedding tears so heavily that I had to pull off the road until I could compose myself before seeing good enough to drive on home.
Although Keith is one my personal favorite singers of all time, with something as subjective as music, there's no such thing as an absolute greatest. It's the same thing with any kind of art. There's no way to determine who the actual best painter is, or the actual best sculptor is. It may be possible to say someone is one of the best, but it's impossible to say anyone is the absolute best.
I came here from playing a FB game about country singers, called Dead or Alive. The game said that Keith died at age 33 and in 1989. I just wanted to know why he died so young. 3 of his songs I love but never knew who wrote and sang them. A couple months ago, I was on vacation in Virginia Beach, sitting in my car in a Harris Teeter (grocery store) parking lot. It was pouring rain and Keith's song, I'm no stranger to the rain, was playing on the radio. I love that song and enjoyed that peaceful moment. I took a video that I wish I could share here but...anyway, this video about him, his family, friends and fans, also his hometown, touched my heart. Thank you and may Keith and Courtney play on together💔💗
Just moved to Kentucky. My husband is a heavy metal guy. We passed the statue of Keith. He asked if it was Elvis. I laughed. I listen to all different genres. I said no thats Keith Whitley. He said I don’t know who that is. I started singing you say it best. Rip Keith. Love you eastern Kentucky.
So proud I found this. I find it to be inspirational and the devotion of his fans cannot be beat anywhere else. Rest in Peace Keith Whitley. You remain loved by too many to count. Lorrie, if you happen to read this, I hope you are happy and have found peace. I know Keith was the love of your life.
My personal favorites of Keith’s.....Quittin’ time....Birmingham turnaround......Would these arms be in your way.....Tennessee courage.....Talk to me Texas.....and the list goes on and on.....Please put this national treasure in the country music hall of fame. He deserves it and so much more. A once in a lifetime talent. Keith....Keith....Keith....Resting high on the mountain.
He is my all time Fav. There will never be another voice or singer like Keith. will always love this man and miss him as though it was just yesterday that his life was snuffed out.
From Mount Pleasant, Tennessee Keith Whitley's legacy lives on through the songs of his I sing on stage, his music which I play driving to and from work, and I am now trying to interest my daughter in his music.
I loved/love his music. I remember when it was announced on the news of his death. He was too young to go but for some reason, perhaps Keith's own happiness, God thought he should be with Him.
....5 straight No. 1 hits....does anyone know what that means....???..How great that is....??? He was just getting started.....He was on the way to $$ 100's of millions of dollars......I like the description someone gave..."The Singer's Singer"......

Go Rest High on That Mountain" is a song written and recorded by American country music artist Vince Gill. It was released in August 1995 as the sixth single from his album When Love Finds You. It is a eulogic ballad. Gill began writing the song following the death of country music superstar Keith Whitley, who died in 1989. Gill did not finish the song until a few years later following the death of his older brother Bob of a heart attack in 1993. Ricky Skaggs and Patty Loveless both sang background vocals on the record. @@ronniebishop2496

Today’s country sucks, honestly... there’s only so many songs you can write about tailgates, jacked up trucks, and beer drinking before it loses its fun... I pray country music writing goes back to the days of what Keith was singing about.. even though he didn’t write al of his songs, everything’s just become to cookie cutter these days cause it’ll get by.. when are we gonna get back to writing meaningful music people can actually relate to? It’s sad... Keith would be rolling over in his grave if he knew how Nashville is today...
They didn’t steal them, they just sang them, and if he wrote them his estate gets lots of money. That’s not stealing that’s paying. But how many of them did he write and if he didn’t write them they’re not his anyway!
Not just in Eastern Kentucky -- but all over the the US, if not the world. He lives on through his music.
Broke my heart when he died. He would be considered one of the all-time greats. To me, he still is. - Cincinnati fan.

The reason for Vince Gill's "Go Rest High on That Mountain."

Jo Ann Herrman Thank you I didn’t know that, I had just heard it was about his brother.
Ronnie Bishop I’ve heard Vince Gill say many times in interviews that he wrote the song in memory of his brother.after he passed away.
