Fascinating. Can tell you, money is a taboo for most people starting up, it was in our business, but so much harder for artists for the reasons you say. Sure this will be gold for many, well done
awesome Fabio!!!!! thank you so much, you are like the light in the dark of the ignorance in this our world of archviz! thank you again for your channel
These are baiting clients and then adding more fees. I have been doing this for 20 years and I know how they work. The add charges every step of the way it ends up as or more expensive for the client. Don't let cheap clients harrass you into lowering your prices with such nonsense.
I know this video is considerabily old but i would like to thanks for the help anyway, deep down i was a little bit worried if my services would be too expensive or not, but this data gave me a relief and the certainty that i was doing the right math to calculate how much i would need to charge.
Thank you for your time, great job! I get calls all the time asking how much I charge for an image. That question can't be answered without a lot of information, so I refuse to answer it. You are implying you can put a price on an image as if they are all the same. Your daily rate makes more sense to me, which is how I look at things, although I don't share that with my client. Also, you are talking about breaking even at the end of the month. I don't know about you, but I want to live and enjoy life, so breaking even isn't an option. Savings, kids college, health insurance, vacation; I would double the numbers you are sharing. Again, thank you for your work, great job!
Whitebirch Studios Renderings hey man, yes, thank you for your listening skills! Really, I realize that I probably made the mistake not to tell that myself to my audience! Like, on top of everything, remember you have a life! Some people got it ;) there will be a follow up video anyway to highlight points like yours! Thanks for watching for now, I truly appreciate it!
Great Video, I'm here to watch Tarran and I stumbled upon your insightful commentary. Based in New York, I charge about $2,500 per image based on the project. But you forgot to mention cost of modeling, entourage and timeline. Also firms in New York have huge needless overhead that goes into the cost of rendering. Some charge a minimum of $5,000/per and guess what, they farm the jobs out cheaper. I have some of the best artists working for me and I treat my artist well, P.S. looking for more artists. I also have great prestigious clients with who I manage expectations. I know when to say NO and ask for the money.
Hello Ozan, I live in Romania and you don't want to know how cheap the renders are here... With more than 15 years of experience I would like to talk more with you and maybe working together if you need more artists to collaborate. Thanks
South African Archviz artist here. I work in one of the more upper market companies doing arch viz in the country. Our rates are +-800 euro per image , however generally freelancers in the country charge around 350-650 Euro per image.
This all depends upon the quality of work and software used. For example I can do 10 Lumion renders in one day and those may be more than enough for some clients and also I can do 1 image per month in top quality Corona or fstorm. Should both be charged equally. Of course not. Your model of days taken for image is great.
Excellent topic and video! Well worth the time you put in making it. I really enjoy your last couple of videos. There are so many more topics I "see" are coming: 3D arch-viz software, rendering engines, asset libraries ...
fantastic prices. My husband works as 3D arc vizualizator in Urkaine, he has 4 years experiance and do a good quality images for 3 dollars square metter. He gets 300 dollars for 100 metters appartament with corrections included to this price...terrible. Coins...
Great video. I've been working for 2 years in an interior design studio and doing architecture (plans and viz) on the side, but I consider myself still a beginner. I'd like to know a bit more about the d2 conference, what happens there and are beginners and new artists welcome or lets say would they feel welcome between all the big shots around? And did you get any info on the pricing in the Balkans, namely Macedonia and the countries around it? Excluding Greece of course as they have EU standards including prices of living I suppose.
V Aliji hey man, best is for you to ask those who comment and have been there already. My opinion would be very much biased by the fact that I'm the co-founder ;) regarding the Balkan area the price was very much in line with the rest of Europe. An artist needs about 1200euros a month to run his her studio but with the difference that work expectations are much lower so pretty much the same price for an image as by the example. My suggestion to you is don't think you are in the Balkan and need automatically to charge less. This is a no go. I have friends in Slovakia and Czech Republic that charge 2500euros for one single image. That is a huge amount. I also have friends who are in London and charge the half. Take some basic business classes. Look up game theory, in the end its all about fitting the right numbers ;) the d2 this year will be in August 24-25 btw
Hello Fabio, Can you recommend any business classes? I think that this is also a great topic for one of the next videos. I think that a lot of artists ( including me in the past) are thinking that all you have to do is be very good in 3d and make nice images. Then clients and income will come ;) But this is only small part of this job.
I will look into this, not sure if online there is anything of that kind. The one I did was part of a program I did as young entrepreneurs and it was made in collaboration between 2 countries Slovakia and Austria working together. I am thinking to interview some creatives and ask them exactly that!
Hi Fabio, nice video, it is very helpful!, would like to know if the prices you mentioned include modeling, texturing, lightning, etc. or is it just renders?
But why considering an Image? What is an image exactly? I can build a living room and providing one image or three would not change much for me. It's all built anyway, it's just about rendering time, that can be very short, and basic post production. I usualy charge for project. I know that for a living room 99% of costumers don't ask more than 2/3 images. This is easier for interiors anyway. For exteriors maybe the situation can be more complex because there are more things to be considered. Natural or urban context that can add an enormous amount of work for every view. But also in this case I don't think is possible to consider an image a good unit for charging people or calculate your own income.
Light&Shadow I'm aware of the struggle 😀😀😀😀 I will do my best to share stories with you guys whilst I'm here in the city, just to plant the seed of knowledge, so to push others in the right direction ❤️
Of course! My wife got a job here, so we moved! I have been in production until 2015-16, I still do it but it is only a small part of what I do. I am in charge of the marketing of V-RayforC4D and I am the founder of the D2Conference in Vienna which is the biggest event worldwide dedicated to the Arch-Viz industry. I also work as creative and business consultant, working closely with young startups and entrepreneurs, and I am now taking classes from an Environment artist from MPC trying to learn that part of the production as well, just to broaden up my personal field of interest ;) How about you?

Regarding the prices you mentioned for "creating an image" for a client, does this include modeling the building or are you getting the 3d model from the client and adding textures, lighting etc?
Jonathan Henkel thanks for the comment. The price is indicative of a daily budget/time ratio as discussed in this hypothetical case. I usually manage to do everything myself and build a good image in about 5-7days depending on the size of the project and charge on average between 1500and 2k for one image. I've also done images for 500euros when I could have fit them into my weekly pipeline. So please do refer to the budget example I made, that should help!
About working fast, let´s think: If I go to a woodworker and he says me he wil need 6 days to do a chair for me and I go to another one and he says he will make in 2 days but it will costs 20% more, I might want to pay for the 2 days one. Right? It doesnt make sense to work fast and charge less! If I will get something faster, I should pay more for it! Futur has a video about it.
Only if working faster does not impact quality, which it often does. SO twice as fast and twice as bad should be of same price. What Chris Do was talking is Logos and those are basically ideas. The quality of idea is not impacted by speed as much as arch viz is. Doing great arch viz is all about details and you cant do those by speeding too much.
@@leodebrito5894 Partly is about optimising your workflow. But you can also work faster by using lower quality software like Lumion or working with less quality and details.
Great video Fabio. I would only add that in certain countries, depending on your contribution regime, you have a sort of fixed amount of money to consider just to have the business be open and so have to be added to the equation!:)
(Canada) My first client offered me $400 an image, this includes any changes, any resolution...I managed to charge $500 an image for my second client, even though this was a $15million+ project. I quoted someone $650 for a single image of a new house (I would have to model the whole thing and its surroundings), they didn't even respond to me. I love Archviz, but I will probably move to the city and get a job in a studio on a salary. I'd love to work freelance but no one cares what you are worth here. They just send the work to Asia or South America and don't care that their billboards advertisements look awful because the houses are going to sell regardless of the quality. I worked on a new condo render a few months ago, after modeling the whole thing and sending the client a rough render to show my progress, the main developer decided he didn't want to do renders and just used the architect's drawings for marketing instead to save the $1200... Basically, the real estate market is hot where I live, so no one wants to pay for Archviz work unless it's super cheap.
J believe it or not, you have already started moving the first steps in the right direction. Good luck and do keep me posted as time advances. Ps average price for renderings offered in Canada is 2400dollars. Some companies try their best to screw people...
Thank you Fabio! Awesome information! QUESTION: How would you dissect the rate of how to charge per minute for Archviz Animation Exterior and Interior?
is it possible to get hired as arch.viz.or executive architect , or anything to do with architecture without degree but with great selftaught 3d modeling and rendering skills presented on portfolio ?
architect definitely not, you need it for taking legal responsibilities when signing documents. You can become a great technician, but you will stay likely a technician... in 3d I think you can get to the top without a degree. In both cases, I would recommend you to study! I started at the age of 26 to study architecture! and did it very quickly! ;)
I have a degree in architecture and a master in engineering. I have been in this field (design) for over 10 years, I am a business owner, I am the co-founder of the d2conference, biggest conference related to archviz in the world, I also work as creative business consultant, help small freelance design businesses to grow and develop, but I am not working as an architect ;)
So all the pricing you are talking about are for a single image? What about the pricing of three or five imagines of the same building but different angles? What do you think should the second the third or the fifth image be priced???
leo thanks for watching this! We'll at the moment what I have gathered from other artists is that the price should be the same for each image as the time tend to be the same for making each single image. Some people agree the discount should be slight like 10%and not more. I might have to make an extra video to explain the topic a bit better!
Fabio Palvelli yea make a video on the topic. Becouse if I speak for myself I use 90% of my time workin on the 3d scene and 10% to refine the images in photoshop. For example I be working 20 hours on the 3d and 1 hour for each render to refine it in photoshop. So there's not much logic to charge the same price for the fist image as the second. Correct my if im rong becose when I work i dont usually discuss the number of the images im gone delivery becouse thats usually between 5-8, and I price the job only by the hours is going to take me to work on the 3d scene. Maybe im pricein it wrong???
pretty much same as in Europe, although one of them was way more expensive than the other. I hear SA is a lot more expensive than Europe so I would try to at least charge American prices and see how it goes! ;)
Hey fabio, very informative video! thanks for that! Do you happen to have a more precise insight of the german market? I doubt that the average 1300€ for europe would be enough to charge for a company/freelancer located in germany.
hello, and when are they a set of images? 3 to 8, the average price can be reduced. How much is healthy? , sorry for my bad english , SALUDOS DESDE PERÚ
I tend not to push too much the discounts as time cannot be discounted that much ;) If you can make more images from one project and it doesnt require you too much time, you could give a small courtesy discount maybe 10-15% but this is only if you get paid enough to afford it ;) Welcome my Peruvian friend!
Lukáš Vaňous yes but only a few, I have also Slovaks answering, the estimates aren't that far from the theoretical calculation I have made, turns out that living in Prague isn't that cheap after all :D I don't know if that helps!
Forza Napoli!
Woah and here I am making 23$ CAD an hour at a company 40 hours a week and I'm the only one in my company that has anything to do with image creation minus photography. Where do I get these magical 600$ a day clients folks? Please point me in the right direction. Thanks
Nigel Stutt hi Nigel, thanks for the watch ;) you still have a bit of room upwards to be honest. UK is very similar to the USA and Australia. I should have mentioned that in the video! Anyway, if you can keep working with those prices and you are happy, no need to fight the invisible giants ;)
Im in the US (SF) so my living income is HIGH. I started charging around this much when I first started out but now charge on a sliding scale per scene ie. first image is say 1200 and additionals are 6-800. My last client decided on 7 images for one scene and I made 2months income in a week. Charge what you need to live for the area your in. Keep going!
Nicholas Escalante if that is enough to keep you going then I guess your client is getting a bargain :) you still have a bit of headroom to go up I reckon!
So nobody noticed @9:12 that "170.5 x 176 .... doesn't actually equal 850? I know... it should have said 5 and not 176, but hey at least I was the only person out of 7,164 viewers was paying attention. I wonder if that's the reason why archviz artists are all poor? lol!
buahahahahah! I like it, German thinking ;) I might have to make an extra video to address a lot of open questions! Anyway, truly appreciate the watch ;)
totally agree with the prices. Thanks a lot, Fabio for your work and deep research

A lot of ukrainians and russians should watch this video. The middle level artists there usually charge 150-250 USD per image.
Communication is key! I know big Russian companies that make just as much as American ones if not more! ;)

Hey bro, thanks a lot!!
is it possible to get hired as arch.viz.or executive architect , or anything to do with architecture without degree but with great selftaught 3d modeling and rendering skills presented on portfolio ?
architect definitely not, you need it for taking legal responsibilities when signing documents. You can become a great technician, but you will stay likely a technician... in 3d I think you can get to the top without a degree. In both cases, I would recommend you to study! I started at the age of 26 to study architecture! and did it very quickly! ;)
so you have architect degree now? did you worked as architect? are you planning to ? or freelancing ?
I have a degree in architecture and a master in engineering. I have been in this field (design) for over 10 years, I am a business owner, I am the co-founder of the d2conference, biggest conference related to archviz in the world, I also work as creative business consultant, help small freelance design businesses to grow and develop, but I am not working as an architect ;)
may i ask why you dont work as a architect?
Just natural evolution I guess!
Maybe im pricein it wrong???
how do i gain experience if i cant find any freelance gigs due to my lack of experience?
would a great portfolio suffice
Ooookaaay I will subscribe :D
Iskren Marinov hahaha, to convince you, it's already a career achievement lol
Hahah :) Thank you Fabio for your vids ! Your vlogs are precious !
Hi Fabio, I want to start freelancing here in South Africa. Can you please share how much the 2 artists you mention charge please?
pretty much same as in Europe, although one of them was way more expensive than the other.
Awesome video mate!
May I ask if You have any answers from Czech Republic? :))
Thanks
Thanks for the great video. I'm following you for a while and I hope someday I meet you in real and have a chance to talk to you. :)
IMAN Kimiaei any time my friend! I appreciate a lot you watching my stuff :)
Say Oceania 10 times and I'll subscribe!
demha hahaha, I said Oceania 25 times to get it right... And I failed Lololol! Thanks for watching :)
My goal is to get £100 per day and i will be happy! 😃
Yes that's about right I charge around £500-750 per image in the UK and I do some other architectural work on the side to boost my earnings.
I will increase my fees gradually as I get better at archvis lol.
keep me in the loop ;)
