    **UPDATE**: The owner of Westcott Designs (Jeff) immediately reached out to me after I posted this video and he was really concerned about the used shock collar. We had a nice chat about what exactly happened and we both determined that I received a part that a previous customer used, took off their truck, re-sealed in the plastic packaging, and returned. Westcott honestly and truthfully thought they were reselling me an untouched part and it was an honest mistake.
    It says a lot when companies reach out to amend situations like these. It shows that they actually care and listen to their customers’ feedback. I wanted to share this update because I always strive to be as transparent as possible in my videos and want share as much as I can with you guys. Despite the slight mishap, I still highly recommend this Westcott Designs lift kit and am excited to see what Jeff and team come out with next! Be sure to check out the Westcott Designs RUclips channel for more detailed information about their products. Thanks Westcott Designs! 😁

      Question out of curiosity. why did you choose to use the widowmaker compressors instead of using the no compressor method? I have more trust in a hydraulic jack than cheap compressors who's long bolts are of questionable quality.
      Also, if using those in the future, please (like you've heard) do not use impact tools, you lose the ability to feel binding (a warning sign of over stressing the compression bolts and twisting them) with them. that is the real reason you are being told you shouldn't do what you did. If you have a good kit, it'll show the bend before cracking and snapping; some won't. Even then if you have enough of a bend to see, you will bind and make your situation worse trying to fix it.
      I purposely have on an assembled MacPherson strut assembly that I knew was going to break out of experience did so to prove a point.
      Finally WD-40 lithium (which you showed) and "WD-40" is not the same thing, I believe they wanted you to use the original as it is a penetrant, as they expect corrosion. I'm not sure if you used the lithium on purpose (since you are in low corrosion area). If you did either on purpose or they called out using WD-40's brand of white lithium spray grease please clarify. As unfortunately WD40 is now both a brand and a specific formula of lubricant and that detail can give griefers an excuse to troll.
      Also if what I said was true about you specifically choosing the white lithium version, some of your audience who don't know the difference might choose the can that looks similiar, but because they live in the cold area like me, will be frustrated as crap because it's not doing what they expect.
      Otherwise nice install. I agree that the UCA method is preferred for a like part to like part replacement as you are less likely to mess up suspension alignment but when putting in a lift system I believe it becomes a "6 in one hand/half-a-dozen in the other" situation so I prefer the LCA method for easier coil-over removal.

      Also a future content idea (if you can do it since I know the Pro isn't your truck) a comparison of the westcott perch lift and eibach spring lift in handling dynamics would be awesome. Both options claim to avoid the issues of a spacer lift and it seems like there is a debate over which version for pro owners is the best.
      Side note: I am jealous of your TRDOR's suspension and plan to have it or better come spring. So thanks for making me spend money you jerk.

    I live a half hour drive from Westcott Designs and had them install the Pro Lift kit on my 2019 Tundra and 2021 Tacoma Pro's and very happy with the lifts. On my Tacoma I had them install the Roof rack 20* sliders and the Magnuson Supercharger for V-8 power. My 6 speed MT Supercharged Tacoma is like driving my 1972 Nova SS. 5th gear @5,000 rpm 100+mph. Great job! I have the westcott designs trd pro lift on my 2020 4runner trd pro. I have done some light off road driving with the lift and it really hasn't changed how the fox shocks preform. They actually work a little better on road and off. When my westcott designs lift kit arrived ( almost 3 months later ) everything in the box was sealed in plastic and brand new looking. There were no issues of anything looking used. It looks very much the collar you received was used. I'm sure if you reached out to westcott designs and told them about it they would send you a new one. All they have to do is watch your video installation to see the collar inquisition. Well done! Always enjoy your reviews and how to videos.

    Great job Chloe! I decided to take mine to the dealership where I bought the 2021 Tacoma TRD Pro to insure the warranty. I had nothing but problems with Westcott D product along with very poor customer service. No instructions! In there latest vid, they say you need 1 11/16” from the grove at the black decal to the bottom of there spring perch. If they knew that when I purchased my kit, they keep it a secret and you cannot comment on there videos. I’m presently running mine without the front spacer and the tail still is lower, god forbid you would load the truck bed. It doesn’t surprise me you got a used part. Keep up the good work!

      I think you encountered the same issues others have, which was not seating the perch until it bottoms out.
      Which sucks, because you basically have to tear everything apart again.
      Hope you get around to fixing it. I think you'll have a change of heart, once you get the bugs worked out.
      Good luck!

      I did alot of reading, forums, review and vedios. I haven't found many complaints other than seating the perches incorrectly, or a few folks calling them spacer lifts which is a half truth and Chioe with the finish issues.
      Everyone else seems to love it, or atleast they claim to..

      @gregnauman My kit was from late 2020, not a recent one, like yours. They had no instructional videos or instructions and they had the worst customer service to correct the issue. They only had videos of 4 Runners installs, not one TACOMA, VERY strange! I’m glad your experience was better but that doesn’t help or change my experience. They don’t even except comments on there videos, why is that?
      Thanks

    • @RCW7373
      @RCW7373 2 года назад

      @gregnauman Great, send me a link. Westcott didn’t know how to fix it at the time of my install. I gave them measurements at all four wheels, before and after. I ended up removing the front shock spacer to lower the front end, not by there suggestion. I sent them pictures and they still couldn’t offer a fix. The Facts are what they are. Do you work for W/D ? You haven’t answered that question or why you think they don’t take comments on there videos.

    Nice truck, clear installation video. But please help me to understand here. If it preloads the spring more than factory, it changes the tension/ stiffness of the spring in the preloaded state. How is it not affecting your suspension? I understand some people say the ride gets even better after the mod. ok that’s because your spring is preloaded more than before of course you get a bit firmer ride which means you’ll get just a bit less body roll during a turn. I’m a TRD pro owner as well and I’ve been looking for a good set up but had no luck. Wanted to ask questions when I first saw some of the wesscott videos but unfortunately all the comments sections are turned off. I’m not trynna say bad things about this brand. If they’re good I’m all for it but I just don’t understand how’s not gonna affect the original shocks.

    Always be careful when using a spring compressor of that type. Once my stepfather and I changed the shock absorbers on my parents' truck and the compressor moved from place to place due to the same pressure and grabbed his fingers as if it were a sandwich and with With all my strength I opened those two feet that compress the spring and he was able to remove his hand. I was scared at that moment, I thought he had lost his fingers but it was only the pain of the pressure on his fingers and a little blood, luckily and thanks to God, I didn't gut his fingers since that takes too much pressure when compressing the springs.

I am getting ready to take off the billstein factory shocks from my offroad and install the factory Fox shocks from Toyota and only think it raises the front about an inch so I'm wondering if the factory upper control arms will be fine. I would love your input

    Chloe, I have the same setup on my 2020 TRD Pro, Westcott kit on the front with the collar and top spacer on. I am probably going to take the top spacer off to make the ride a little smoother. Have you had any issues with not installing the top spacer?

      Thanks! And unfortunately they haven’t. The condition of the collar is mostly cosmetic, although people still shouldn’t receive used suspension products.

    Would like to know if you have to get your safety features re-calibrated or does the sensor still work when it is an inch higher.

    • @ChloeKuo
      @ChloeKuo  2 года назад +1

      The system either doesn't seem to notice, or has already accommodated for the height difference. I'm sure there's a limit before the system fails, but a half inch seems fine so far! 🙂

    He Chloe, did you do this lift on the rear? I have a 2019 pro and the kit comes with a one inch block to lift the rear, which I'm not excited about...I've read that blocks aren't great...wouldn't a leaf pack or add a leaf be better? Thanks in advance

    what is the torque spec for the nut on the sway bar endlink? it came off pretty easily. and after installation, do you re-torque everything before driving it and after you drive it in case anything loosens during the drive?

      Safety first with the springs, the second important part is seating the spring perch. Make sure it bottoms out.

    I'd be curious for your thoughts about the TRD Lift Kit from Toyota. I have a 2022 Tacoma TRD Off Road on order. I know I want KO2's right off the bat. Debating doing that lift and doing 285s. Or no lift and doing the stock 265s (like I did with my 4Runner).

      I think it’s a solid opinion if warranty and keeping the truck OEM are of importance to you. I’ve never personally ridden in a truck with that lift but if it’s anything like how these OEM Fox’s ride, it’s a great setup!
      You can go the cheaper route and get Fox 2.5s like I did that can give you anywhere from 0-3” or lift and ride awesome. It’s cheaper because I think you have to get the TRD lift installed for you at the dealership, whereas you can do the Fox 2.5s yourself/outsource the work anywhere, and you retain your grille and fog lights.
      So anyways, TLDR: they’re great but a pricier option. Other 2.5 width shocks will give you similar/the same performance at lower cost, but you lose your warranty.
