If you have this problem in future, use a drill, PK screws, sheet metal plate, hacksaw plus blades, nitryl rubber sheet, and screw a patch over the split. Often not a bad ploy to make up some drilled plate in advance. Crude but screwed down tightly will get you down to a tiny leak, or no leak at all. One can also use that punched out plate cut to shape, since the nitryl rubber plugs the leak.

Good Morning 😊 Sorry to hear about the fuel tank problems 😢 Long Driving Tanks arecthe way to go 👍🏼 Thanks for sharing legends and cheers 🍻 From South Africa 🇿🇦
I had exactly the same issue with my Brown Davis long range fuel tank, twice. Twice I had to take it back for repair. Mine split too big for the old soap trick but luckily a mate was there with a bucket and a load of empty jerry cans so it didn't all spill on the ground at the Lambert Centre on the way to the Simpson. I told them at BD they did it all wrong, made it too rigid and bolted direct to the chassis, for the amount of flex the Troopy has in the rough, should have used suspended bands instead like all other fuel tanks usually are.
You guys are a very handy and capable lot but a special mention goes to Adrian, he sure is a handy fella. I admire the way you all team together and work as a family, very impressive. I think it must be the Tumut, Batlow duo going on there. Poor old Brown Davis are not doing too well out of this little debacle, I would be a pissed about a leaking tank if it happened to me but I see you have all taken it in your stride OK. How about a funnel in the old kit bag, I have one here with clip on extension nozzles, straight and 45 deg. elbow and fine filter for isolating water out. How about old mate giving away a drone, now that's a pretty good deal.
Cheers mate yes he's very handy to have pm a trip like this, it defiantly gives you confidence. The drone was verrrryyy lucky. Yes next trip there will be a few extra goodies in the kit

We did the Simpson a few years ago and had the same problem with our Brown Davis. Kept putting layers of super glue on the crack every time we stopped. It got us home …. Just
My mate had a brand new Brown Davis fail on the Canning SR. Brown Davis replaced the tank but the replacement sprang a leak on the Connie Sue on a later trip - fortunately had glue which sealed it. Brown Davis appear to have quality issues along seams

Having a fuel tank leaking is a serious issue when you're in a remote area. Fuel & water will become precious. I'm glad you guys managed to power it through, and what's you're guys going to do without Adrian? He's a game changer 😉. That couple is so generous, I would have given up my djmini2 remote control too if I was there 😁. One of the best parts of travelling is it's the people you met along the way. Did that couple travel the Canning by themselves?
I had fuel tank problems in my troopie when doing the CSR The baffles in the second tank broke and destroyed the fuel sender … standard Toyota tanks 2x90 litre Pretty bad corrugated roads
When I was young, I learned that my back room planning was inequal to manufacturers' expensive R&D. Best is to keep a vehicle stock standard. Toyota has a dealer in every dusty village and keep twenty each of every spare part. Or that's what folks tell me. It doesn't work that way.
23 yers ago we had BD long range thank, same shirt happened cracked in the middle of no where. Soap worked until we could get it welded, alas it just cracked in another place after the welding. NOT a fan 🤦♂️
I've had the BD tank on my dualcab for over 100k and it has never given any trouble whatsoever. It's 110l and totally separate to the standard 130l tank giving a total fuel load of 240l. More than enough for remote travel. We've covered the CSR, Anne Beadell, Connie Sue, Tanami, Plenty , Great Central and a lot of tracks in between. May just be plain luck, competence of the installer, driving style, who knows. Somebody has to give BD a thumbs up 🙂
Hello lovely people, love your RUclips and have been following you for some time now. Would you mind sharing how you obtain the beautiful night sky - my dream is to capture that too. Thank you. Cheers Marg ... and Steve
Just did a google on Brown Davis cracks and I found a bit of a history on this cracking history all the way back to 2004.... not good for the price u pay
Early in the piece you said the BD tank was necessary for this trip. How do you feel about it now - shoulda left it stock mate and brought a Mulgo 😜 that has latches that don't break and can be sourced in Oz if you need them 🙂 probably an unhelpful comment but hey
Well, considering we wouldn’t have made the distance with the stock tanks I feel the getting out if it is still preferable to running out of diesel. Also someone else said their stock Toyota tank failed on the CSR. Still happy with the headspace for a lot of reasons, keen to see the upgraded latch they will make after seeing this fail, as long as they are receptive to feedback and keen to improve small issues I’m still on board. Obviously it’s frustrating the tank did that but hey, these things happen on trips no matter how well prepared you are, it’s really a case of how you deal with the issues.
Dont the troopys still come with duel fuel tanks? Its like the the tank is mounted too stiffly so when the chassis twisting the tank is being flexed casuing cracks on the welds
