My 2cents, when passing another vehicle half on blacktop, half on dirt, its a great idea to slow down and pass each other at a respectble speed. why? well 25 years as a truck driver I always slowed down even for caravans ;) a windscreen is about 2K for a vehicle with cameras, lane guidence etc and it stops or reduces stones bouncing off the van and through back windows (another 500 bucks) so my advice, take it or leave it, is slow down and talk to the other driver and you may be able to do a full lap with 1 windscreen. anyway have a great trip.. that glass is saftey glass breaks into cubes you will be hard pressed to recover it all. The glass was already on the ground from when the windows shattered 🤷♀️ We swept it all up before we left

Hi, just found your channel and loved the episode, I wasn't happy seeing the glass get thrown on the road but then after watching you guys help everyone get out of the mud pit I knew you would not leave the glass on the ground, thanks for showing us not only the good of travel but also the other side as well.

Yeah they knew the roof was up - just wanted to get out of their asap because the rain had started again. They popped it down once they were out :)

Very common having stones bounce back of caravan into car and smash windows, this is why some 4wd have a full matt right across behind back wheels and the stones work there way out of the side of road and avoid windows

First video I've watched on this channel. We found similar mud on the road from Cape Arid to near Balladonna on the Eyre Hwy in WA, but we weren't towing so didn't have anything like the fun you had. Have a great time on your big lap of Oz. After reading through all the comments about cleaning up the glass, I bet you show that part of it on camera next time.

loved that spot in the dry, thank god we didnt have rain at the free camp. yes your right its very fine powder in the dry and thick mud in the wet. good job getting out and helping others..

You need wheel speed to clear the tread in mud. Higher gear and rev it!

Low Range & use torque plus low tyre pressures down to 10 psi until your out of trouble.

I'd find the change from bulldust to slithery, greasy mud very hard to imagine if I hadn't experienced it myself on a worksite one time. And it was nothing like as bad as that! An excellent video that was helpful, informative, entertaining and a bit of a concern here and there all round! - keep up the good work! ps. It would be interesting to see just what exactly you are all using for tyres. :D

We all had all terrain tyres. The guy at the end where we were helping to push his car only had road tyres.
There were a few people down the back with mud tyres and those didn't help. The worst kind of mud 😬

Yeah our ones are pretty good. Before we aired right down we couldn't drive the car at all. Absolutely crazy
I feel the pain of the broken back window on the cruiser, we did exactly the same thing in the same place!
oh no! hope you got it repaired quickly - there isnt much around there for replacement back windows
Use glad wrap for the smashed glass just wrap around the hole thing 6 times top to bottom 👍

Broken back windows is very common when towing a van. I see it all the time on RUclips. The advice is to cover it with something fairly padded apparently.
I think they will from now on. Luckily the plastic held up when the rain came through 😬

What tyre pressure did you lot go down to on vehicle & trailers?

yes we went down to 10psi. I am not sure what the other drivers were down too

Top end truck align in Cairns. They did a great job
You need to invest in a Stone Stomper. Mesh between vehicle and caravan
We have one of these and think they are a brilliant investment. Dions dad does however need one

There should have one of those stickers you put on glass to make it look like it’s cracked, see how many people still just step on it . Obviously you would tell them after . But I think just seeing a crack might play tricks with the mind with some people even when told it’s a sticker, .?

Some times it is better to stay put and put the billy on.
If there wasn't an insane amount of extra rain on the way we would have.
When you become bogged down in the mud like that,never over rev your engine,always best to take it slow so that you will get more traction rather than spin your tyres.

That could work but we don't carry snow chains in Australia. Only very few places down south get heavy enough snow to warrant it
are windows supposed to be brittle. lol

I wasn't expecting it to break the way it did. I was expecting it to have some sort of lamination to hold it together better 🤷♀️
@@trippinaroundoz by and large, only the front windscreens are laminated in modern cars
- all other glass is "toughened" (specially heat treated) glass
- some times this other glass is lined (eg with tinting plastic)
- the toughened safety glass breakes into small bits so as to not cut heads off

Thanks for helping people out - but have you considered the damage your combined escapes have caused to the area. There is a lesson here that you should be teaching.
Always check the weather, and if any signs of rain in this type of area, move on quickly.
I know that sometimes we can get caught out , but unfortunately many free camps have closed due to unintentional damage caused by travellers.

When we were there it was the wrong time of year for massive rain storms to come through so we didn't expect a massive rainstorm - there was nothing showing on the radar before we turned in for the night.
Wa we call pidam. Dust with water.

Great work guys and thanks for helping others out as I am sure it was much appreciated. I understand people had a concern for the glass but don’t be to quick to judge, just ask what happened and they explained that they had cleaned it up. We did before we left. There was already lots of glass on the ground from it breaking.
You do know that just because they don't record themselves emptying their bowels, that they still go to the toilet, right?
free camps get closed because people dump the glass from their broken window there?
We were not at a free camp when thr window broke. It broke while driving on the road
How much shit can you pack in the cruiser, looks like golf bag went through window and throwing broken glass in the bush , good idea, put it in a bag and take your crap with you
Yes with their dog sitting on the backseat a lot of their stuff had to get stored in the back of the car.

Moral of the story, avoid Tritons, they just don't have the grunt for towing, except maybe a 6x4 trailer.

As a new viewer throwing glass into the bush is not a great look. Good content, bad form. Should of pushed it into the car and vaccuumed it out later as regardless it would have needed a vaccuum from debris anyway

Campervan or Motorhome is always a better choice,rather than towing.
Sometimes, but we have taken our car and van to many places you would not be able to take a motorhome
