    If you think about it. Some of these designer houses tend to have extremely simple or just obscure designs, and having classic footwear that have been tested through the decades from Nike is a great way to showcase their designs. It’s still an attainable shoe in comparison to the LV Air Force ones that fetch a pretty penny even from release date but shows that there’s a turn for more creative designers to really showcase their art. Plus, the newer generation of designers were the ones who loved these shoes. So realistically, the culture is coming into full circle with collaborations with sportswear in general. So who doesn’t like a fresh pair of AF1’s?

  • @MichaelConroy7
    @MichaelConroy7 2 года назад +4

    Genuinely can’t stand these kind of collaborations. This is not what this culture is about, brands like Tiffany used to look down there noses at the average joe like myself and now they want to make there millions from us. They can do one, I’ll stick to collaborations like Why So Sad and Fun Collabs like the Chunky Dunky’s!! Just my opinion tho.

    I think it's a great collab personally.
    It's simple but that's pretty much the Tiffany & Co MO if you've seen any of their jewellery and accessories.
    I DO think the amount of collabs have watered down the novelty of them for sure but Nike always seem to drop a biggie like this whenever we all think collabs are dead so I'd say they know what they're doing for the most part 😅

  • @bland5149
    @bland5149 2 года назад +3

    I'm all for collabs even with today's releases having one every couple of weeks. My problem with these Tiffany's, however, is that they feel plain and uninspired for what is supposed to be a luxury shoe fetching a $400 retail price tag. A silver plate on the back and a Tiffany Blue swoosh with the reset of the shoe being all-black is pretty lame.

  • @ericdiaz153
    @ericdiaz153 2 года назад +4

    I hope high end luxury collabs with Nike don't become the norm . The Tiffany dunks from years ago are way better than these and wasn't no were near as expensive for retail. My thing is if Tiffany was for the culture they could of had a pair without the silver lil accessories . To me the quality nor the price justifies the purchase I much rather get an all black AF1 and paint that Tiffany blue color on the swoosh 😭

      Makes perfect sense though when you think about it that’s what Nike may want so you buy the gr version. Don’t settle for less. Just wait till something better and affordable releases. It feels like a Nike gimmick to upcharge or release low stock to sell general release substitutes

    I remember there was a pack of 3 jordan 5 premiums ~2017 with each costing 400$ and although not many people bought them it there was definitely less of an outrage aboit them.
    I also like that some collabs are stopping with those crazy design stuff and go back to a more simple approach.
    Now if only those collabs and special editions would get a bit more rare in time, that would make them feel a lot more special again.
    And lastly i think that they should have AT LEAST included the silver dubrae with the sneaker, i mean come on we talk aboit a AF1 here.

    • @Thelunarraptor
      @Thelunarraptor 2 года назад

      I think the reason there wasn't an outrage was because there was no forced collaboration, and it was just a fancier version of a shoe people love with actual tangible material upgrades. The Tiffany AF1 just seems like a regular ass suede AF1 with some extra branding.
      Funny enough you can find some pairs now aside from the snakeskins well below $400. I found the obsidians for $300 and immediately got them, definitely the most high quality Jordan 4 I have seen.

  • @mtzano
    @mtzano 2 года назад +3

    This is actually a really interesting one. I am a consumer of designer brands and have many in my collection. Also, a Nike/Jordan collector. The price alone doesn't scare me but the product just doesn't seem to justify the price. BAPE, Bally and Off-White are 3 brands that get away with charging $300-$600 for products manufactured in China. Not sure how they pulled it off. Everything else has higher quality leather and craftsmanship and higher production costs.
    If Nike wants to seriously tip their toe into the designer space, they have to emphasize the quality of the leather and the quality of handmade production and QA in Italy, Spain, France or even here in the USA. (Yes, similar to 1986 AJ2, it's a new world and it can work now). Simply putting a Tiffany, BVLGARI or whatever logo on a shoe made in Vietnam with the same process as all the rest, simply won't make the cut.
    NOTE: Designer material and production costs are not $500+ over Nike costs. The perceived value is higher due to years of cultivating a brand value perception. That perception is built on quality of materials, attention to detail and exclusivity. Nike is still just Nike... for now.

    I think the value and hype for these will be heavily dictated by how limited they are. If the shoe is 1k pairs numbered, people are going to call them grails as they’re a simple colorway that’s rare and easy to wear. If these are reasonably mass produced though, they’re bricking. As I said in my previous comment, these are just a safe release to appeal to as many customers as possible

    I feel like it's a good collaboration. Nike and Tiffany's are both large well recognized brands where luxury and culture overlap. I'm not a big fan of Tiffany's, seeing as most of what they make is pretty basic and overpriced, so I don't think this is quite up there in status with the likes of Dior or LV, and that's probably reflected in the price. It does explain the straightforward design aesthetic though. I'm not really a person driven by the hype and only look to collabs as a opportunity to bring something new to a shoe that Nike (or any other brand for that matter) wouldn't normally do. For example the deconstructed look of an Off-White or the reverse Swoosh of a Travis Scott. This AF-1 however doesn't venture too far from the typical Nike, besides the premium materials, so I'm not really going after this. I'd love to see the next collaboration partner to be someone that brings a fresh take to Nike and sneakers, not just the partnering of 2 large brands.

    Great video and observations. Personally im a fan of collabs. Although there seems like a glut of them. But in this case of this Tiffany collab it seems completely uninspired. Although it has some design elements identifying it as tiffany but its really not enough and im not seeing it as really representing the flux brand and history of tiffany.
    And the jordans are street shoes with culture for ballers, street culture and hip hoppers. Tiffany has no association with either. Gucci and other brands did.

    I love these and I will 100% cop at retail. Maybe it’s my familiarity with Tiffany as a brand, but if this shoe was wild like the LV AF1s it wouldn’t make any sense to me. And as an aside, the Dior 1’s are relatively understated as well, and retailed at $2,000. And those seem almost universally loved. It’s perfectly fine to not like the Tiffany AF1, but the level of debate seems to be about broader issues people have with Nike and not entirely about the shoe.

  • @edorpina1474
    @edorpina1474 2 года назад +1

    My take on the $400 Price is to alienate the resellers who typically run their BOTs to hoard sneakers that are in the under $200 price so many will pass on it. If there are reseller Bots that somehow bite into $400 sneaker and sell it out, then Nike wins because the Tiffany collab can be hyped as a success. The Resellers who have the Tiffany collab will need to hype it up on RUclips and Instagram to get the Hyperbeast and Noobs to buy it thru resellers. The economics this year is hard to push a $400 shoe into consumers whose funds are limited so many would go to the Replica version instead of buying from the resellers. I would buy the Tiffany collab at $400 as a piece of art .

    This "collab" is proof that the real sneaker game is dead. This shows that brands know they can do whatever to grab a quick profit. Once it's off the shelves they don't really care what happens with them... They're selling out regardless and they know it, so they could've charged $800 (well, if you add the accessories yo do get that amount) and it wouldn't have mattered. Look at the upcoming luxury Jordan 1... $1500 for a shadow with gold accents... Like... Anyways, great content!

    I think Nike realized there is a market for “High Fashion” for Nike (MMW, Jacquemes etc) but they also wanna bring more Jordan. They have a $1500 Jordan on the way so might as well get them used to higher prices with a $400 AF1 Tiffany. They are meant for that big spender High Fashion Crowd, cause they could have easily given them a Colorway and have it be $20-$50 more than normal.
    But I think the AF1 will sell, the $1500 won’t cause no collab attached. No box or materials are gonna make an AJ1 worth $1500. All in my opinion

      I don’t think it’a necessarily the price, to say the reason why people hate it is because they can’t afford it is silly.
      When it comes to sneaker collaborations, there are certain expectations that we as consumers want to be met. The design has to have some sort of umph to it, something that had the two collaborators’ signatures and there is a wow factor to the final product. The better materials are appreciated, but the design is as bland as it gets. You could recreate this design with the ‘Nike by You’ in a similar hue of blue/teal. This is uninspired and lazy.

    For the money they're asking, I personally don't feel its a good collab. Pretty much as you said it feels very uninspired. The supposed "samples" I've seen here and there would've hit alot harder I think, but still with a retail $400 tag, the quality just isn't there imo. I could also care less about the "jewelry" that comes along with it. Tho I will say brushing my teeth with a silver tooth brush would make me feel like posh if you will. End of the day tho, I don't see most being able to hit retail if they do want it. Which means if it pops off you're looking at a minimum of double the retail, which makes it even more worthless. So idk. IF and that's a big if I went for them, I would never pay resale and honestly hopped they would flop and go on sale. Not a need for my collection by any stretch.

    Basically, I just want a $400 shoe to feel like a $400 shoe. With these Tiffany Air Force ones I can just smell the profit margin through the screen. I know damn well that would be a $150-$200 shoe without the branding.
    No history, no story, no special design or materials (I guess there is silver but I doubt it's anything more than plating.)
    All branding and being a part of a special club, the aspects of sneaker culture I dislike the most.

    Think the argument presented by the South Auckland native wins out. Nothing remarkable about the shoe and won’t be on anybody’s list for shoe of the year. Even if the list is 50 shoes long..

    Nike can’t be a designer high end brand and also one aimed at the masses. The two don’t match. Tiffany isn’t a primo brand imo for most of Nikes demographic and I genuinely think these resonate with females mor, as Tiffany as a brand doesn’t mean much to guys.
    Nikes problem is when they move the price point without an increase in quality. Nike has questionable pricing at best when they do high end collabs but there isn’t a noticeable increase in the materials to. The stone island or CP collab gear they were trying to sell at a higher mark up than SI/CP do, it was laughable.

    Unpopular opinion: most people need stupid a** colors or hype s*** or internet validation to like things. I think these fire but they cost too much to me. But it is Tiffany and that Bull b expensive. Suck it up, cry about it or keep it pushing
