I highly recommend any of the gear you see in this video.
I own a 5 (the white one), and I can bet my life on it. And that's exactly why we love and buy Esee. I plan to get the laser strike and the 6. Maybe another 5. But do not hesitate guys, buy it and use it! Thanks for your video dude! Greetings from Belgium! 🤘🏻
I was using for several years the Spyderco Sharpmaker and now I have been using the Ken Onion Work Sharp knife sharpener. Works real well and put a nice edge on all my blades.
I have two ESEE's, the 5 & Izula both in Safety Orange and my best friend has the E6 & Izula. We love these knives for what they can do. I too put a Tek-Lok on my E5 and it's way better than that clip plate. I agree that people are in awe when they hold them for the first time!
Hey lemme ask you something because I have a Junglas and an ESEE 5. You say you have both the 5 and the 6, Is there any point to getting the "6"? I mean - for the "bush" would the 6 do anything for me that the 5 won't? Considering a "6" but wondering if there is really any reason when I have the "5". Already ordering some more Izulas, just not sure if I should get a "6" too.
@@ulary Well, be careful listening to me because I have not spent nearly as much as I wanted to out in the woods but..... NO, there is no real reason to own the 6 if you have the 5 (imho). I went ahead and bought the 6, took it out a few times. I'm gonna keep using it, when it warms up but I would have just as soon had my 5 to be honest.
Those 5s are like a railroad spike of destruction. Feel sorry for anyone who goes up against one of these! I have the 6 and absolutely LOVE it! No mater what other knives i buy i always find myself coming back to my good 'ol ESEE! Sweet vid man!
Greetings from a fellow Taxachusetts knife afficionado in the Hub area too! I dig your videos...they're informative and often humorous. I know you love Esee and like Tops knives, so It'd be great if you would do a vid of the Esee 5 vs the Tops Black Rhino survival/tactical knives. Both match up pretty well as heavy duty medium sized sharpened prybars. Best...and thanks bub!
Hey neighbor, thank you for stopping by and saying hi. I do like that knife from TOPS it's going to be a very long time before I pick one up, if I even do. I would say it's right in line with the ESEE 5, but being the ESEE fan that I am I'd stay with the 5 over the TOPS. TOPS makes great knives and I trust every one of them, fir me it would just come down to looks. I'm not a big fan of nylon sheaths, I much prefer kydex bit I must admit I'm not a big fan of TOPS kydex, they always use the one piece clamp shell design and I don't care for that style. If your trying to decide between the the two you mentioned my opinion would be to go with the 5.
***** Ok, I was on the fence between the two, but leaning more for the Esee 5 too. Thanks again for the info! Oh, and please do some reviews on Cold Steel knives if possible.
Cogent review as always, my friend. I too am the proud owner of two ESEE knives: the ESEE 3 (yes I have the funky colors - I wanted something different and high visibility for camping) and the ESEE Candiru; a great little fixed-blade. I will likely be adding the Junglas to my collection once the warmer weather arrives. ESEE blades are a fine addition to any serious tactical/survival knife collection. Keep up the good reviews.
That's a BadAss blade brother! All I have is a Junglas at the moment & it's old with a low number #3101. Lol which ESEE knife would you recommend to get next??? A 4,5, or 6????
Well... providing you're using the Junglas and not just keeping it as a collector's piece I'd say go with 5. That way you have the Junglas for serious wood processing and the 5 for absolutely everything else. The only issue (if any) with the 5 is that it's a little too short for batoning if you're into that. Aside of that it's a thick chunk of steel that can be used as a pry bar if needed and will cut everything the 3, 4 and the 6 will.
Thanks so much for your advice I'm definitely leaning towards the 5 😉 PS. I don't baton with my knives that's what my hatchet is used for. LoL. But it's great to know I have that option if needed.
+Charles Baughman At the time of this video I was using the Sharp maker from Spyderco but the last year or so I have been using the Work Sharp and I couldn't be happier. Your able to sharpen using different grit belts and really get the blade sharp. Well worth every dollar.
Say Heah Brother, Yeah I was going to get the Essee 5, then I thought a Essee 6, but both times something else came up, like I was able to get another INFIManDu, Yeah now I have two of my all time Fav's knife, Yeah I have three total one is in the SR101. Then I bought a close out Hultafors Bruks 17 Agdor Range Hatchet, Which I think was replaced by another range, But when I got it everything was spot on, lucky again, finally I got two Moose Pattern Rough Riders at a great price, So that's why I'm not getting any Essee ' s yet. But I find that a 5" blade sometimes comes up short when I baton, I know because I have the BK-2, a O.K.C Ranger Afghan and the O.K.C. Ranger T.F.I. all in the 1/4" thickness, I also like a Saber z grind over a Full Flat, But like I said sometimes they come out short. I got a Ka-Bar Johnson Adventure Parangatang and paired it off with the Potbelly because the Potbelly is a little longer, for guys that feel the same way as I do about a 5" blade being to short when batoning, I feel the Potbelly is the size knife to get, It's now one of my Fav's batoning knives, Well besides my BK-9 and my O.K.C Gen2 SP-51, Yeah I feel luck was with me, But I still would like to check out the steel on a Essee knife, So far my Fav's steel is the SR101 and ofcource the INFI steel, But Essee also makes some good looking knives, Heah, It was nice seeing you again, I enjoy your videos, keep ' m coming, , ,
What's a link to a good kadex sheath (or other if you know of better) for the esee 6? Any info would be nice. Good vid. I have been trying to decide between 5 or 6.
There are as you know a ton of Kydex sheath makers out there but I have only used two and highly recommend them both. Check out: www.armatuscarry.com/index.html The second is still working on his website but you can send Dan Stanley an email at: twelve025@yahoo.com If you happen to talk with either one of them please tell them Tim from this channel sent you. Great review. I also have the ESSE 5 and Izula, Izula II, 3, two 4s, 6, and the big one, (forgot the name). I really like all of them. Again, great job. Thank goodness for the 22 amendment. Jerry
Say Heah Tactical, What puzzles me is that Essee makes the Essee 5 and the Essee 6 is thinner, Yeah, that's why I went with the Swamp Rats, well several reasons. First I love choils, and I'm a steel snob, I have no regrets with my Rodent Knives, even my Modde Rodent 6 it's .260" thick which I had tge blade thinned down and the top gaurd taken off and I love my RatManDu also, IMO I think it's the best 5" out there, IMO, , ,
Why would you get rid of the Junglas?? It's perfect for bushwhacking. I almost bought a Junglas but since OKC closed down and I found a 125th Collector's Edition RTAKII, I had to get it and it accompanies my Esee 6. I can't find a justifiable excuse to pay almost $200 Canadian for an Izula knife, a 2-inch blade so I decided to go with a CRKT Minimalist drop point knife to piggyback on my Esee 6. This set up here works perfectly for me.
@@DoloresVillatoro-ho5jg $200 for an Izula??? 😲 That’s outrageous! I’ve had all the ESEE knives multiple times throughout the years. They are sold, traded and so on for other knives, lights or just gear in general… especially if I find I’m not using it as often as I should. I like to move gear around and not keep something if it’s not getting used. Even more so when there’s something else I want or could use more.
@@GearReviewDepot Oh I agree, it's INSANELY ridiculous. An Esee 5 would cost me here $309 before taxes & shipping I had to get my Esee 6 on ebay to save some money from a U.S. seller. I wanted to see what your take is on the Esee 5 which I noticed is the equivalent of a Becker BK2,
@@GearReviewDepot That's why I decided to go with my particular set up. It's insane to pay that much money before taxes & shipping for a knife that has a 2-inch blade. I believe that the large and medium knives are the 2 most important to invest in, but not a 2 inch knife, it's not my be-all/do-all knife which is why I decided to go with another 2-inch knife that costs $35, the CRKT Minimalist. Instead of the Junglas, I decided to go with the RTAKII. I have seen that knife go through some gnarly, Australian harwood and the blade was veering off at a 20 degree angle while going through a knot. The guy went through the knot and the RTAKII straightened itself out like it never happened, so 5160 was a perfect choice for steel on a large blade. For my medium knife, I went with the Esee 6, it's basically my main knife that does everything. The smaller knife is making notches or some other finer tasks like gutting fish and etc.
Keep making them..im in italy now. I bought a junglas some time ago and im interested in the the Esee 5. Good video. Europe has much more of a knife culture than firearms given the restrictions imposed!!!
@@vitocarbonara7770 I have a few videos testing the blade tips on my ESEE knives, it’s worth your time to watch. It’s impressive what these knife blades can handle. 😲
In my opinion a 5 inch blade should be a bit better at finesse work than the 1/4 inch thickness of the ESEE 5 will allow. On the other hand, while I liked the thickness of the ESEE 6, I prefer the durability of a saber grind. It really bugged me that if I was going to buy one of these two knives I would have to pick between the thickness I wanted or the grind I wanted. Finally ESEE came out with the CM6. I bought one of those and I am pretty happy with it.
Good review the 5 is a beast and they should use the logo that's on the 5 on all there knives. Going to check out emgear is there any difference with the ebay page and the web site?
Im more of a becker fan bit hate the lousy sheaths and lack of micarta handles. I dont like bright colors either. I like earth tones. Dark earth, coyote, etc. Becker is overpriced because when you add in the cost of a kydex sheath and micarta scales its at least an additional 100. Esee is cheaper. If esee had the ergonomics of the bk handle and wider blades at their price point id go with esee. Also becker doesnt give you color options. People like options
+SuperShooterX MOLLE Loks, there's nothing better in my opinion. Used them for over 7 years with no issues. They are all over the net, eBay would be a good place to check for them.
Hi, is the new clip on the sheath, easier to clip on to the molle of your backpack ?, but I personally like a better slicer with a 5" blade, I have three 1/4" thick blades, my BK-2, my O.K.C. Ranger Afghan, and my O.K.C., T.F.I., I know you don't like not getting a sheath, and I know what knife company that your talking about, it's Swamp Rat, my favorite company, for the buck, they're the best knives for the money, the SR101, is outstanding, I like a 5" blade, I like a choil, a saber grind, and a good slicer, that's why I luv my Ratmandu, as far as a sheath goes, I choose what kind I want, shape, everything, no mater how I carry my knife, as far as kydex goes, plastic sheath's don't dull your knife as much as a kydex sheath, that's why, the only thing I like about Cold Steel, is their plastic sheaths, the knives don't dull as much, the only reason I didn't go with a 5" Essee, my friends have the Esse 5, and 6 , is I wanted a thinner edge, yes their sharp, they knows how to sharpen theirs, but I wanted a slicer, and the Ratmandu was it, and it's tuff as nails, but I wanted a choil too, its like two knife sizes in one, and Swamp Rat has a great warranty too, I luv my Ratmandu, infact I have two of them, one in SR101, and the other one is in the INFI Steel, no offence, I think you did a great video, almost makes me want to buy a Essee 5, but as you can see, I have a few 5" blades a few I didnt mention, I'm just waiting on my Rodent 6, I'm having the top gaurd taken off, at the Swamp Rat Shop, it's going to look like a beefy Ratmandu on steriods, that's another advantage with a semi custom shop like Swamp Rat, same thing with my Rodent Rucki, I'm having the tip changed to a Rodent Waki Tip, since I will be using it in the bush, and it's being thinned down too, but back to your video, great job, keep up the good work, Thanx., its my opinion, I didn't want to upset you, I think Essee makes some great knives, my friends like them, but I check out knives at forums, then I check out the prices, warranties, and I watch videos like yours, I do luv my Ratmandu, if I didn't have it, I probably would have a Essee, with toxic green on orange blaze, just kidding, they seem to be good knives according to my friends.
The new belt clip that comes with the ESEE knives can't be connected to the PALS webbing on a pack or bag, it's too big. It's great for your belt if that's where you want to carry your fixed blade knives but it's just not for me. Swamprat knives are nice, actually they are very nice but I can't afford the ones I want and also I really prefer ESEE. Thank you for stopping by. Be safe.
Sorry my friend, but evidently you don't know anything about me, or my years of experience and history with ESEE. I don't appreciate you stopping by nonetheless. Be safe out there.
Man I want one of these. I might go for a TOPS first (I just had to sell my Gerber LMF 2, My Ka-Bar Full-sized Tanto and a slew of other amazing knives, some Cold Steels that ARE good, etc.)....anyway, got a BK-11, a Spyderco Tasman Salt, and Gerber Warrant left...poor me :P Still, the Tops MAX Punisher (HUGE Punisher fan, and it;s like the ultimate bushcraft/survival/combat blade, though a Buse or an ESEE would just be...exquisite) Tops and ESEE are in the same category, and higher-end Becker Kar Bars and the D2-steel and their 1095 cro van blades (like my BK 11 and tanto) Let me say one thing though: MORAKNIV. If you want a set of knivs to use, and abuse to shit, and turn into spears, batoning devices, their sandvick stainless and high carbon sweedish steel is insane. For now, though, the next knife I'm getting is an Emerson/Fox Karambit and/or a Tops Grim Reaper But an ESEE 5 is very high on my list. number-5 on my list, actually, hehe...

Phillip Ott They can found all over the net. Actually they have been improved from what I was told, they look a little different but still effective I'm sure.
The definition of insanity is. Doing the same thing over and over expecting different results. (As a mechanic, I have to say we would look at the guy with 15 ratchets. As just a little touched in the brain.) The knives today are far beyond what was available 40 years ago. People need to do homework. Pick one. Never look back. And then years down the line. Do a video and tell us a story. I can read specs from the manufacturer. If you are so damn picky a small thing ruins the deal. That shit sounds like 1st world problems then. And the last thing you should attempt. Is wilderness survival. Another add brought to you by a RUclips master. Think for yourself, the first step in survival

If esee had the ergonomics of the bk handle and wider blades at their price point id go with esee. Also becker doesnt give you color options. People like options
thanks for the quick response!! You sold me on the Esee 5
Sub'd
Awesome! Thank you!
Great review.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us.
I'm in the market for a new knife and your video has been very informative.
What clips are those on the sheath, and where can I get a pair? Thanks?
+SuperShooterX MOLLE Loks, there's nothing better in my opinion. Used them for over 7 years with no issues. They are all over the net, eBay would be a good place to check for them.
Awesome review like always. Wish they sell them in Malta or let us import them. Keep up the good work
Great review. I will get the ESSE 5P black
You won't regret it.
Is a wolf hunting you in every video? Cuz you look back a lot ha ha ;)
Nope, no wolves. Just coyotes, mountain lions and bears. I talk about it in one of my VLOG videos. Thank you for stopping by.
***** Your vids are entertaining. Keep up the good work.
Thank you!
Good video. I agree with you. I love my Esse 5. My favorite.
Be safe.
Awesome video man, your the reason why I chose buying my first Esee, Im just undecided on which to buy first the Esee 4 or 5 :)
What camera are you using btw?
Franky Mcfly You'd be very happy with both but I would grab the 5. Your gonna love it!
Franky Mcfly for this video I was using my GoPro HERO2. Now I mostly use my Canon T5i.
Thanks man, Im using a T3, Need to upgrade, I went ahead and ordered the 5 and a Rat3. Thanks again for the awesome vidz man and for helping me decide
Franky Mcfly Great camera and great knives, wise choices. I also use a RODE Videomicpro on top of my T5i. Very pleased so far.
What is the best attachment to attaach to this knife to molle webbing?
MOLLE LOKS. It's all I've I've used for over 7 years and never had one fail yet.
Thank GOD no baton-ing. Great vid. Appreciate you Not Chopping etc.
Just say it is a great Knife. Perfect.
Thank you for watching! Much appreciated.
No knife 🔪 beating? 😄
That's one badass knife
This Esee 5 is too new it seems to go out of the seller, it's good to talk about it but now you have to use a little ;)
Sorry my friend, but evidently you don't know anything about me, or my years of experience and history with ESEE. I don't appreciate you stopping by nonetheless. Be safe out there.
@@GearReviewDepot I was joking of course do not be upset by my intervention ;)
I love Esee !
Always liked the looks of the 5. Need to pick one up one of these days. Great overview.
Man I want one of these. I might go for a TOPS first (I just had to sell my Gerber LMF 2, My Ka-Bar Full-sized Tanto and a slew of other amazing knives, some Cold Steels that ARE good, etc.)....anyway, got a BK-11, a Spyderco Tasman Salt, and Gerber Warrant left...poor me :P
Still, the Tops MAX Punisher (HUGE Punisher fan, and it;s like the ultimate bushcraft/survival/combat blade, though a Buse or an ESEE would just be...exquisite)
Tops and ESEE are in the same category, and higher-end Becker Kar Bars and the D2-steel and their 1095 cro van blades (like my BK 11 and tanto)
Let me say one thing though: MORAKNIV. If you want a set of knivs to use, and abuse to shit, and turn into spears, batoning devices, their sandvick stainless and high carbon sweedish steel is insane.
For now, though, the next knife I'm getting is an Emerson/Fox Karambit and/or a Tops Grim Reaper
But an ESEE 5 is very high on my list. number-5 on my list, actually, hehe...
Also, by the way, I love your channel. Keep the videos coming.
Thank you! Much appreciated.
I wish I could get an esee 5 with a blade thickness of the esee 6.
You can... Ontario Rat-5
too late! bought the esee 5. and y'know for the thickness of the blade is it all right! the thing is a beast! :)
Nice man. Yeah, I'd rather have the Esee.
I like the clip plate more.
It's what I've been using for years till very recently started using Tekloks... much better.
Can you give me a link the the EBAY Site?
Absolutely: stores.ebay.com/EM-Gear-Tactical-Survival-EDC
Yeah i don't care for the bright colors (knives or guns) either, but each to their own........
Why did you close your business?
mars munguia Wife and I wanted to start a family and I couldn't give up my full time job because I have great health insurance and I wasn't going to be able to watch 2 babies all day and run the business then go to my full time job at night. It wasn't an easy choice I put a lot of work into it, but it was the right choice.
Why does this guy keeps looking back and sideways all the time?
Wild animals. We have bears, mountain lions, coyote, Bobcats and a few others that you have to be aware of. Let alone Bigfoot. You should always have your head in a swivel... regardless of where you are.
@@GearReviewDepot
True. Enjoy your videos very much. I wish I could go in the wild more/ I'm in Chicago.
I envy you. Keep up the good work. I'm buying the 5 next.
Take care.
Send me those sheath clips please
Phillip Ott They can found all over the net. Actually they have been improved from what I was told, they look a little different but still effective I'm sure.
Very nice, the top all round tool, Very ££££ thought
Micarta is alwaya dirty.
Peter Griffin?
What about Peter Griffin?
I thought it was pronounced like Jungle… jungleus… 🤔 lol
Nope.
The definition of insanity is. Doing the same thing over and over expecting different results. (As a mechanic, I have to say we would look at the guy with 15 ratchets. As just a little touched in the brain.)
The knives today are far beyond what was available 40 years ago.
What?
you seem paranoid. in all your videos you tend to pause, and look behind you as if you hear something.
Nope. Just aware. Lots of animals in the area, got to keep my head on a swivel. I've talked about this in multiple videos.
If I was going to replace the axe in the back of my truck with a knife, it would be the esee 5. That said I will keep the esee 3.
