Very nice review! A practical approach to understanding the purpose of this knife. If i were exploring through the amazon on a adventurous trip...i strongly believe...that this is the one knife i would carry!
Awesome review! I was torn between the ESEE 5 and The BK2 and now i think im finally settled on the ESEE. Also I have the same comment as Joshua Hemmings, That jacket is ideal! SNO if you ever made them for order I would certainly buy one! Thanks for the great video
LET ME ENLIGHTEN ABOUT THE KA-BAR BK2 Companion knife. Look at the tang vs the tang on the Esee 5. The KA-BAR has a skeletonized handle. The Esee 5 is solid steel with only holes are for the 3 screws on tang. I have seen videos of the BK2 breaking inside the handle. BK2 is almost a $100. The scales suck and the sheath sucks too. To get the BK2 where the Esee 5 is out the door? You have to buy micarta handles for $50. You need to buy a $40-50 sheath. BK2 should cost $200 to equal the Esee 5.
Great review. Most people review the Esee 5 only on bushcraft or wilderness survival, but it's good that you mentioned cutting in to cans and sheet metal, etc.
Interesting about the rusting of the blade part not coated. Used mine in Sweden moose hunting and had it in and out of backpack temps between 22 and 36 deg F for a week, edge rusted like crazy had a hard time keeping up with it, never mind weep hole to let water out on sheet if it gets that wet you will need a towel to dry and some oil to protect. Other than that I really like this knife despite its weight one of my go-to knives and hardly ever leave it behind.
Interesting you mentioned that cross draw carry option. I don't see that too often but I really like it. I usually always have a pistol on my right side. So that real estate is not an option for carrying my knife. I find that cross draw carry of my knife is very natural. Easy to access the knife with either hand, it doesn't effect bending, kneeling or movement in any way. It doesn't seem to get in the way of anything I need to do. Just works really well for me.
@@ozcampnhuntdan7858 fascinating I got a buddy who moved back to Perth some years back. Thinking about catching a flight and hitting his couch for a month maybe have a look around myself
@@ozcampnhuntdan7858 I'd love to, even got the misses wanting to tag along. Came real real close to relocating to Oz, but my folks are getting quite older so i can't bail out long term on them. They have a small ranch and I do all the upkeep
Yea...I skipped over the 5 and bought the 6. I own the Izula 2, and the 4, and now the 6. My friend owns a 5, and for me, (Just me), too much weight for a knife it's size....But I get it, as a survival sharpened pry bar.
I have this knife and I love it. The thickness allows you to use it as a pry bar (but you'll risk damaging and possibly losing the tip). I used a file to put a 90 degree edge on the spine to be able to strike a ferro rod. If I could have only one knife to carry into the unknown, this would most likely be on the top of the list. Thanks for sharing.
Just ordered a wool sweater myself. Definitely worth the 💰 for cold and wet. being from Florida i learned the hard way being in the Northeast and Alaska
Great review sir! You touch on a few little things that others tend to forget. The info you provided add was valuable. Combined with others whom give the knife a workout, I have everything I've been looking for. I seriously think that coat you've got on would sell like hot-cakes! I would definitely buy one. I had something similar when I was in high school, but it got stolen out of the locker room while on a basketball road game. Haven't found anything like it since. Let me know if you get them to market, or need ideas for funding...I specialize in the latter.
By the way, could you stabilize the cross draw by fashioning another loop with paracord to go along with the tek lok, that way you'd have it attached to your belt in two places as you mentioned.
SnoMan..... excellent review!! Just stumbled across your channel. Looks terrific. What's the jacket you are wearing?? Do you have any info on it?? Looks sharp, but mostly looks WARM!! Please tell us more about it. Again, good review of the ESEE 5P. Best wishes.... Ax.
Great video Mr SNO, I have to ask for full details of your jacket, it looks brilliant. Thank You for yet another great educational video Sir. Mick.B. England (Just outside London Town)
Excellent video my friend,im thinking of buying the Esee 5 knife but I have very big hands triple X gloves and the handle on the Esee looks too small.Would you recommend it.I can't make my mind up,yes my wife loves me every day and twice a day on the weekend. She will be buying my next knife as a gift.Stay safe.
great review !! The jacket !!!!!!! that is the most beautifull wool jacket i ever saw !!!!! are you already taking it in production :) ? kind regards jeroen
Thank you for the share. I saw on you tube that '' hedgehog '' make a sheath from leather that you can have at the back of your back, horizontally. P.s. you wearing those 'shades' , you remind me of marcu luttrell. He can give a lowdown on knives...
Lol man open a clothing line! I'd buy! Great review. I bought esee 5 specifically for my bug out bag. It's my WW III grab bag which looks like I may need soon unfortunately.
just remember if it rusts or the coating comes off and your scared of it rusting send it back no questions asked they either send a new one or re coat it FOR LIFE
+Joshua Hemmings Thanks, I made it myself! I have three prototypes and I'd like to produce them for sale, but it takes a big chunk to get started. Wool is expensive!
+SNO Multimedia I use a 5.11 tac belt and nothing I have hung from it has made it sag yet and I carry a esee-5, leatherman, glock-21, and a tac light no slipping or sagging as of yet and over a year into it = it says its has 6,000lbs of pull strength, so can double as a tow rope haha, great vid by the way
As you probably know, there are a ton of reviews on the ESEE-5. Yours is somehow more homey and useful than most. Enjoyed listening to you. Thanks.

Just bought the ESEE 5 so this was really interesting and useful review, nicely humoured too. Thanks :-)
I've been watching a few of your reviews. You are a good speaker and I like how you mention practicality. I am enjoying them, keep up the good work!

Thanks for your insights!

I liked your review than most I've seen about Esee 5. Wished they'd do an S35VN run on this.. I'd happily buy one or two.
Great review....I love my esee 5 for last line survival here in north oz, it is a beast and takes a lot of punishment.
Ever seen a Tassie tiger in the bush? Lot of ppl say they have
@@CraftyCleetus in fact I have seen a couple whilst driving at night, they seem to be suicidal like roos.

It doesn't look mid-evil, but full-evil lol. Seriously though, I do like your style of review - top-notch actually !
