I remember visiting Mumbai with my uncle some time ago. There was a restaurant where we decided to have dinner. A normal butter chicken for 2-person portion for 680 rupees. 5 mutton kebabs for 600 rupees. I was kind of struck because we already had used the washrooms and been sitting on table for almost 5 mins. The manager at the counter already had seen us. But my uncle didn't flinch. After going through the menu, he just stood up and asked me to come along, and we started to leave the restaurant. Dude, being poor is not good. I was poor, signed up for an 8 week improv class, and we went to dinner in a restaurant which I couldn't afford to eat at. I asked someone for their leftovers and they gave me their leftovers but I felt such a crap vibe from the situation. Btw, I was the most talented performer in the class, and I saw many people from the class go on to accomplish stuff with television and getting articles and publicity and getting projects off the ground. Meanwhile I had no money to start up my own projects, so I relied on some sketchy unethical people to work with me. It resulted in me doing a tonne of work, not getting acknowledged or paid, and feeling a general sense of despair about the world.
I've been the poor friend on many occasions... still am pretty poor. Lol. I always ask my friends if something is in their budget and I try to find something we all can afford.
This is how it feels for me right now. I've made my piece with it. I just honestly tell them what's up, and that if they're willing to buy me some free food I'm down
Had a group of friends like this, and while I made the least out of everyone, I could still afford what they can afford, it's just that what they preferred to spend their money on aren't in-line with what I preferred. For an example, they'd rather spend at a beach club while with the same amount of money, I could spend on renting a nice villa/hotel room that even comes with free breakfast, or I could spend the same amount scuba diving. Eventually, I got tired with this group and just spent more time with another friends who shared the same preference.
I love how absurdly rude the waiter is on top of it. Refuses to say the market price. Acts as if asking if they have free bread is a crazy request. lol
I had two friends, a couple. One day we wanted to double date at dinner but I wanted to go somewhere affordable. They kept insisting they wanted to go to an expensive restaurant but finally we settled on affordable. When our separate checks came my boyfriend and I were definitely pleased and satisfied with the good but inexpensive meal. Then they both turn to us holding their own check and asked if we were not paying for their meals. We were like no, why would you think that? We literally never said anything of the sort. They looked miserable and said we dont have the money to pay. My boyfriend and I were like ummm no we aren't buying your food. After a second it sank in that they wanted us to literally treat them both to an expensive meal at a high end restaurant. They had not bothered to mention that they fully expected we would be paying for our meal AND theirs. We laughed it off but never went to eat with them again. The absolutely audacity was pretty shocking. We did however get better friends. Havent seen those two jerks in years.
I'm glad that I'm stubborn sometimes. Of someone ever tried to order for me, I would be like "No! I'm looking at the menu." Then proceed to buy the most reasonably priced dinner I like.
I literally just say "im skint no thanks" but if they say "ye i got you we'll sort it out when you get paid" then i wont say no lol. Also whilst this was too true to be hilarious, somehow always guaranteed at least one laugh and she got me with the "LETS GO TO SPACE" at the end.
I’ve had to quietly bow out of gatherings with friends as my business is feast or famine and sometimes I’ve been in situations where I’m financially ok and sometimes I’m hanging on by a thread. Then, the awkward part is where everyone offers to pay for you because they want you there. I’ve never been good at accepting the help.
Even though it’s a funny sketch, the most important rule is to be transparent with others about when you can’t afford something. It seems embarrassing, but in reality, that information is insanely valuable to those around you especially friends so they don’t put you in uncomfortable situations.
Nikki, another feather in your cap, my dear. This was hilarious, start to finish. And that *_finish!_* Oh my God, I think that is the hardest I've laughed at any joke in any of your or Steve's videos!!! (Sorry, Steve.) ps~Even when you're meant to look poor, you're still such a babe!
When you think about this IRL. I honestly don't know how to respond to such a situation. It's rough honestly, and the fact is this can cause friendships to end.
Dear lord if my "friends" made me that uncomfortable, I'd just make a bad excuse to walk right the feck out of there, and disassociate myself with that group entirely, bride be damned.
My problem is I’d never make friends like this or pretend I can live on their level. And if I DID have friends like this, I’d tell them I have limited spending money ahead of time and will lay my boundaries down. LIFE IS TOO SHORT TO HAVE SHITTY NON-COMPASSIONATE FRIENDS. Period. And life is too short to lie to the friends you DO have. Be honest and be genuine and the right people will appreciate you for it.
Well, black card doesn't have max. But it is advised that you use the pre-auth estimator to check and see if they will process the giant charges based on your known assets and income level.
We are currently in this situation. We never show up whenever our friends invite us to eat out. Sure it sucks but no biggie, we love homecooked meals. 😅
This is exactly like that scene from Bridesmaids, and that girl in the hoodie is Annie, played by Kristen Wiig. But in all seriousness, its difficult being the broke one in the group when people want to plan lavish group events, whether its a bachelorette party, bridal shower, whatever. If you are the broke one, just be honest about the fact that you might not be able to attend (all parts) of the celebration, without being judged for being a party-pooper. People should be able to be honest about this. The taboo and stigma about being broke or just making less than others should be lifted.

I'm better off financially and now able to afford a brunch with the girls without wondering how I'll survive during the week.
I've been short of cash most of my life, so are my friends. Since I have my own practice and earn well, my friends and relatives who have less are invited, wherever we go. It's not that hard to be a considerate friend.
It's her face that gets me everytime 😂
yes! do a part 2 where they go "shopping" and talk about "investment goals"
Thats why i don't go out , coz i am broke and its awkward and I have social anxeity _(also im shy)_
MONEY is really important once you get past 21.
Like the WORLD literally revolves around money.
being from a middle class family , I know my Rich cousins and what opportunities, life decisions and doors they could open
*LUCK also plays a role* _(but for me I don't know what luck is, i only know struggle even for the smallest things)_
Friends that make you feel bad about your income ain’t very good friends
I feel so bad for her. I know the feeling and it is painful😂😂
There’s a difference between being cheap, frugal & low maintenance😉😂 nothing wrong with any of them!
Loved the tap water line so much!!!
I've been the poor friend on many occasions... still am pretty poor. Lol. I always ask my friends if something is in their budget and I try to find something we all can afford.
I LOL'd *SO HARD* at the very end OMG
i feel personally attacked 😂
Sorry, you're to poor to sue the person attacking you.
@@James--Parker *too
Lmao, I’ll take water from a hose 😂 especially loved the Tom hanks referenced 🤣🤣
"Hose." That is fuc&&^G funny!
When a skit like this hit way to close to home..damn
The character break from the middle girl at 3:02 was classic
This is how it feels for me right now. I've made my piece with it. I just honestly tell them what's up, and that if they're willing to buy me some free food I'm down
If you can’t tell a friend that you can’t afford something then that’s probably not a real friend anyways and you can afford to lose them.
I just don't go. Some of us just don't deserve good things.
Terrible feeling. You just need to be upfront and set boundaries. Don't let them make you feel bad.
I love how absurdly rude the waiter is on top of it. Refuses to say the market price. Acts as if asking if they have free bread is a crazy request. lol
If Outback Steakhouse is the new poor,
I'm destitute.
Outback is an Australian term, do they serve kangaroo?
Man if only Tom Hanks was sitting in the background when she said “I don’t want to be Tom Hanks!” 😂
"She probably loves it because, you know, the food is super soft."
I work with the elderly and they do love soft foods.
You shoulda busted their plan out in the open…called them on it.
Did you invite them to the dinner? Just struggling to see why they would ever assume someone else is paying on a double date lol
Maybe you're just cheap
"lets go the space" moment, what a legendary face :D
0:27 omg the look of concern she has is hilarious 😂
“Hose, faucet” 😂😂😂
I'm glad that I'm stubborn sometimes. Of someone ever tried to order for me, I would be like "No! I'm looking at the menu."
Then proceed to buy the most reasonably priced dinner I like.
"It's not about the destination. It's about the journey, man."
RJ
Like Tom Hanks in Apollo 13
if Nikki said that it would of been too much for me lol
I literally just say "im skint no thanks" but if they say "ye i got you we'll sort it out when you get paid" then i wont say no lol.
Also whilst this was too true to be hilarious, somehow always guaranteed at least one laugh and she got me with the "LETS GO TO SPACE" at the end.
This is the 2nd time in my life I've heard the expression 'skint'. You must be from England? Because the other instance was in a lyric by The Clash :)
@@RisforRockit I'm actually from Italy but I've lived in England for over 10 years! Well spotted mate haha.
@@RisforRockitGot a fine set of peepers there, guv'nor 😂
Lol. So funny and im crying inside.
A "real" waiter woulda picked up on the poor hints tho ;)
I've been here as a single dad. I was fortunate enough to have awesome friends who covered me.
2:03 he saw the word toilet in her eyes...
Nikki, another feather in your cap, my dear. This was hilarious, start to finish. And that *_finish!_* Oh my God, I think that is the hardest I've laughed at any joke in any of your or Steve's videos!!! (Sorry, Steve.)
ps~Even when you're meant to look poor, you're still such a babe!
When you think about this IRL. I honestly don't know how to respond to such a situation. It's rough honestly, and the fact is this can cause friendships to end.
"... gotta mango-a-gogo" when I heard Nikki say that I knew this was going to be a good one!
Dear lord if my "friends" made me that uncomfortable, I'd just make a bad excuse to walk right the feck out of there, and disassociate myself with that group entirely, bride be damned.
This is why people of different financial economics typically do not remain friends for too long
I hope nobody actually has "friends" like this.
The T. Hanks line up though. Terminal's my fav❤
Well, black card doesn't have max. But it is advised that you use the pre-auth estimator to check and see if they will process the giant charges based on your known assets and income level.
Nikki, your work is amazingly funny!!
It's sort of sad that irl friends grow apart due to socio economic statuses.
Actually, Hawthorne is the next Culver City.
I know the feeling very well, and cannot watch it till the end.
"Or hose..." I lost it there.
"Let's go to space." Lost it there again.
Hahahaha OMG, this channel save me from my depression. Thank you Nikki❤
We are currently in this situation. We never show up whenever our friends invite us to eat out. Sure it sucks but no biggie, we love homecooked meals. 😅
She is brilliant
Tap or hose is fine... priceless line!
Please pick easier to read subtitle colors.
Tap…hose…faucet…hahaha I’m dying
Man.. I felt this so much..
Tap...hose...faucet😂😅😂😅
This is exactly like that scene from Bridesmaids, and that girl in the hoodie is Annie, played by Kristen Wiig. But in all seriousness, its difficult being the broke one in the group when people want to plan lavish group events, whether its a bachelorette party, bridal shower, whatever. If you are the broke one, just be honest about the fact that you might not be able to attend (all parts) of the celebration, without being judged for being a party-pooper. People should be able to be honest about this. The taboo and stigma about being broke or just making less than others should be lifted.
My takeaway: "No body wants to Tom Hanks." Except, maybe, Tom Hanks. Love your stuff, Nikki.
I know its a skit but the ending was really clever. It is often times true when it comes to the dual nature of people.
"it's about the journey man✌✌"
😆😂🤣
Reminds me of when I was in college and got laid off from my job. I had a group of friends who loved going out and trying different restaurants. I suddenly didn’t have much of an appetite 😂
