I agree with the last comment the price on this is far to high. It doesn’t even have the core rules, like the normal core rule book and if you want to play against someone else that’s already have a warband well you now need to buy another Warhammer warband. At least with the kill team starter set you gain the full team required. As you said maybe if it was 40 even then seems bad
for the crimson court did you mean the sepulchral warden or the prince of dust? And would you say that list is still worth running now if your just getting into the game?
Sepulchral Warden definitely :) And yeah I still think that it's decent as a one-box purchace to bulk them out. Other good options which might be more readily available are Deintalos and the Exiled Dead or the New Zondra's Graveseekers. Alternatively, the box of skeletons/grave guard even after the points hits from April is still a good shout.
Too many of the commentors and even the YT video itself miss the entire point of this set and the larger picture. Take a gander at Mini wargamming's video. This box set has far more value than just what is included in the box. This is about a sustainable retail box that can stay in production. It is also in how it walks you through learning the game which the vast majority of players absolutely suck at teaching someone how to play. This follows what is called in the corporate world as Change Management or as MWG put it Tell Show Have a Go. Absolutely 0 of the other books follow this time tested and proven method of teaching someone something new. If you play wargames at all this is not the box for you nor is it a good value for you. If you do not play wargames and looking to get into it then it is absolutely a good deal. This box and the missions walk you through all the steps and rules through missions. This means someone say a parent can buy this box having no knowledge of wargaming and take it home and then they and their kids or significant other can learn to play without being in the game store. Then there is the retail portion. GW is re-using existing content which means production can continue, its in a bookshelf sized box meaning it is easy to stock and more can be stocked. Space on a retail shelf has a cost to it so this makes it easier for both hobby and non-hobby shops to carry. Providing it capabilities to bring more people into the mix without the need of knowing someone in the hobby. Far too many of the video's saying this isn't a good value are just looking at it from a very narrow perspective not the larger picture.
Of course this is a stance that I've argued for both on the discord and reddits (to which I've been heavily argued against thanks to it being an unpopular view), and one that I actually talk about during the video itself; if you are a new player to the game or brand new to the world of warhammer in general then yes, crypt of blood has some value and is probably for you. I also said that I did understand why GW were putting out a product like this, which includes all of the points that you've mentioned. That being said however, new players who are looking for a way into the game don't really care about shelf space, re-use of GW existing content, or GW continuing sales strategy, and especially in the current economic climate; want to know that what they are buying gives them a good example of the game that they want to play, and represents good value for money. That point of course is debatable but ultimately the decision rests with the consumer and not with GW's sales and marketing teams. My stance on this has always been to give the pros and cons of the set to prospective consumers to let them make up their own minds, and if I were pushing the whole 'this set is terrible' stance, I wouldn't have bothered with putting information in there saying why the product is for you or expanding out the teams themselves :)
I recently bought the Sundered Fate boxset, and forced my gf to play a game with me and enjoyed it. I've been considering getting this set, mainly for the rules book and tokens honestly. Just can't justify it for the price. They don't make Warcry easy to get into :/ Speaking of which, what's the best way to find Warcry players, is there a good UK-based FB group or Discord? I've checked/asked the Facebook groups, Discords of my FLGS and can't find any Warcry players - and I live in London, so there be a few... Hopefully... I'm probably going to enter the tournament at Warhammer World in Nov just so I can at least guarantee I get some games in (but I'm not competitive at all)
If you are in London; reach out to the London Wargaming Guild through their Facebook. They have a dedicated Warcry WhatsApp and meet regularly at Bad Moon cafe
I had been waiting for a Warcry starter set to get into the game and was so excited when I saw this was announced. After I picked it up, and played through the tutorial I was very disappointed. You don't get full teams, the tutorial is so dull to play, overpriced especially compared to the Kill Team starter set.
I want the models and I want the terrain so I'll be picking this up, but the RRP is disappointing, especially if you imagine it sitting in a store next to 40k, AoS and Kill Team starter sets at the same price and the Underworlds starter set at £40.
I think the biggest gripe for me is that the terrain, whilst nice, doesn’t fit what I personally see Warcry as. Warcry’s terrain and movement system is beautiful in its simplicity. The verticality and mobility afforded by the rules is fun, and fun should be the core of any starter set. This terrain effectively removes that entire section from the game since it’s all flat. The most you would do it climb over it. I’d have loved to see at least one piece of terrain that allowed new players to play with the ground/platform shenanigans warcry offers. Price is fine, warband sizes are a bit odd, but easily expanded upon as you said. Models are great even if they are recycled sculpts. It really is just the terrain for me.
Sad part is, they measure their metrics with sales. If this doesn’t sell, it’s gonna say hey people don’t like it because James workshop doesn’t understand aos directly plays into warcry. I’ll buy one out of spite to support warcry sales. And that bust of neferratta mainly.
I think GW are trying to standardise their £65 sets; I took a look at both the 40k and AoS starters and they both have paper boards also (not that it makes me feel any better though 😆)
Here in the United States that box cost 110 USD but I can get underworlds for 45 USD. I was really excited about the set but can’t justify the difference will probably just get underworlds and play my own mini games of war cry with a PDF to start
Great video but a few corrections. Both units are still for sale in other parts of the store. The Crimson Court is in the Soulblight Gravelords section for £25. Xandire's Truthseekers are part of Underworlds: Nethermaze - Rivals of Harrowdeep for £47.50. £65 price point is a bit much when you can find Nightmare Quest going for £82.50 on secondary stores. But my biggest question is what are the future plans for Warcry terrain?
Yeah I already addressed the Crimson Court in the video. I didn't know about Xandires Truthseekers but the £47.50 just for that (and the Kruleboyz also but they Kruleboyz 😆) is still a bit steep imo. As for Warcry terrain, nothing has been mentioned in either the roadmap, warhammerfest panel or any rumours
If you like both warbands then I'd go for it. I quite like the big zigurat terrain but it's not for everyone; though the individual warbands are now out from that box so you can get them separately if you like.
@@johnnythedark3090 Askurgan Trueblades really benefit from attack boosting abilities (having mostly a low amount of very strong attacks). Prince Duvalle of the Crimson Court has a 'Call the Crimson Feast' triple which gives all visible friendly fighters within 6" +1 Attack - This has very good synergy with the Trueblades themselves and increases their damage by a flat 33% most of the time before you use onslaught.
Disappointed about this one, I missed Heart of Ghur so I wanted a rulebook, but since it doesn’t have the campaign rules it’s not any better than the pdf version of the rules (really, worse since I’d much rather read rules on my phone than in a book). And the game surface being paper, etc. I’m branching into Warcry but they seriously missed me with this one.
Well, each WHU warband are on sale for £25/26 and most scenery on the webstore is currently at £37.50 so it's highly likely that a new piece of terrain would go for £50 in GW's today-money so it does all add up. As I said, whether that's actually a good deal or not is down to the players themselves, but for the most part, you wouldn't be looking to buy both of the warbands.
thank you so much for this as a new player :D
You're welcome :)
Honestly Crypt of blood/Bladeborn it's super fun 🙌 they definitely need more support.
