The key issue is that after the cardholder reported the fraudulent transaction, AmEx did not perform the due diligence efforts to determine whether the fraudulent transaction had indeed occurred! If the cardholder could research for the facts that the same merchant had a history of fraudulent transactions, why AmEx with all resources could not find the same information and flat-out deny the cardholder’s good faith claims?

This exactly same thing happened to me, and on the 3rd time of opening the fraud dispute I requested the documents they used to investigate the dispute and they have 10 days to send to you but they still never sent from the first 2 disputes. I told them that I would file a police report against them for fraud instead of the unknown suspect, a week later I got the dispute approved and my money back. That was with Chime Card. Do not get them.

I completely agree with this. This happened to me, and also at a gas station, charging $50, then a $1k right after. My Amex app notifies you whenever there’s a charge, I called them that I have never been in that area, and those charges are not mine. Amex, takes care of the entire process, canceled that old card, verified my last know charge and sent me a new card with the new act. In 48hrs. Next time I got an update was when I got a letter stating that’s been resolved.

Had a very similar experience with Barclays, and had to pay them out because they kept denying the request. They kept saying that it was a chip card so the transaction was authorized by me and the merchant provided a receipt showing that the transaction was made. Apparently that’s enough for them to say that it’s a legit transaction. No signature or anything like that to show that it was actually me.
Amex has for sure had some weirdness lately, I’ve been covering it on my channel with some people even getting their Amex cards CANCELLED with no warning. 😬

Was in cabo Mexico several years ago and rented a car to go around. Stopped by gas station, ans wanted to pay with, i believe, i gave the attendance a chase card. He said it didn't work, and paid some $40 cash worth of gasoline. Back home and viewed the credit card bill and $100 was posted on my account. Called chase not to pay this amount, but chase refused my claim. If the credit card doesn't challenge this, the oversea merchants keep on practicing fraudulent business activities.

Unfortunately that’s common practice in many places in Mexico, they rely on tourists not having cellphone service to receive instant alerts and others don’t even check their statements, always be alert, have fun but be careful.
Mexico took advantage of me as well. I am very leary about vacationing there moving forward. I also have Amex platinum. I am shocked Amex did not uphold the dispute.
I wouldn't say the Amex platinum card is prestigious or exclusive. It has the same qualifications as their lower-level cards. The only difference is if you're willing to pay $695 per year. If you are, you get the card. Whether it's worth it, is up to debate, but there are a ton of people paying $695 per year just so they can flash the card around. In that case, they're throwing money away. Anyway, there is no way in hell I would just give a gas station attendant in Mexico my credit card. Never lose sight of your card, to prevent this.
Did they raise the annual fee because it’s not that and many people have one that travel often. The centurion card is the exclusive invite only one that hardly anyone has. That said, I’d be pissed if I got fraudulent charges and it wasn’t made right considering that’s the main reason to use that kind of credit card in the first place imo.

I've noticed this. Outside of America people don't give up their cards to a random person to walk away with it. Only in america is that the norm. If your outside of the US treat it like the rest of the world and watch your card get swiped and don't hand it over. They can bring the card reader to you or you can go to them.

Skimming/carding is such an issue in the US that I‘d rather use a debit card there. Same thing happened to a few people I know. Still, there‘s also a reason why I prefer Apple Pay over the conventional card because you see all spendings and possible fraudulent charges immediately after completion.

Amex reimbursed the apple protection plan I had been paying for the last 24 months but did not actually had any device signed up for the protection. The refunded all 2 years instantly no questions asked love the services.
X1 credit card has an incredible feature; when you turn the feature on, it creates a new unique virtual credit card (with new card numbers and all) that is only used once, so you pay once for lets say $20 bucks in gas and immediately after the transaction occurs it becomes useless. The X1 will create a new virtual unique credit card for the next transaction. So in the case of the scamming gas station clerk if he thought he was going to scam you after you paid for the initial $20 and generates a second transaction using a cloned card, or with your stolen numbers, with the intention of charging you an astronomical amount, he will be surprised!
First off… you never let someone in Mexico walk off with your card. They have the wireless card readers that scan at the pump or table if you’re eating.

I have 2 Amex card with credit line. I don't see any feature for that. The best I see is you can set alerts when the card was charged.

The fraud protection is the same on either a credit or debit card.
The difference is the money is gone with a debit card. That may leave you without resources needed to get out of trouble. Don’t use a debit card.
