Thank you for this video. My brother is completely paralyzed from MSA “Multi System Atrophy” His daughter, my niece takes care of him. I’m encouraging her to get him a suprapubic catheter. When they recently did a routine Foley catheter change, they caused bleeding. It had stopped, but started again, much worse. I’m sending her your video to help her decide.😇❤️
I had a L1 fracture in 2009 and suffered neurogenic bladder. Between these times and now, I always had recurrent UTIs. It is a major issue and was getting worse everyday. However, just by cleaning the penes with a baby wipe before catheterization, I have three months without an infection up to now. Thank God!
I’ve been dealing with SPC for over 27 years & had many different catherters & after a couple of years or so we have to change the make of the catherter due to them not working any longer within the body ! Gone swimming done hot tubs and never had one fail ! We do videos for carers to show them what to do in all different situations to help others understand SPC as my son is on a ventilator and has experienced so many medical mistakes since his been a spinal & brain injury with scoliosis and a congenital diaphragmatic hernia, it’s sad how it’s not talked about enough ! Thank you for your video ❤
On SPC since 10 years.. im confused that my doctor suggested me to go for 'Ileal conduit' because i had major infection recently.. can you tell what can i do to stay on SPC for as long as i can ?
Thank you for this video. After watching I have decided that a suprapubic catheter is not for me, because it comes with too many problems. I already have more than my fill of quality of life issues from having vaginal vault brachytherapy, causing bladder incontinence that was not able to be stopped by Interstim as well as botox. And, I wear a pessary which comes with its own inconveniences. In hind sight I would not have had the brachytherapy. My cancer recurrence risk is now only 3%. For more than a year I only ate foods known to kill or prevent cancer, something my Oncologist is totally impressed by. I was told that brachytherpay is well tolerated by patients, something I strongly disagree with. It is not just degrading and humiliating, but dealing with the side effects 24/7 can be depressing and humiliating. I was told that it was suggested as a 7 on a scale of 1 to 10. Too late to change my mind now!
Thank you for creating this, I live in the UK. I am prone to get regular UTIs but realise now that strong smelling urine is not neccessarily an infection although urine samples are sent to the lab at the Hospial for investigation . I now receive 2 flushes a week by a District Nurse depending on my PH levels which helps with regards to blockages. I need to ask the D.N. about PH levels.
Good video with lots of information, but much of it is difficult to understand with the music on similar decibel levels as the doctor's voice. K. Lassey
He gave the statistics based on real studies. Said another way a coin flip is 50-50 heads or tails but it can land on tails 6 times in a row. You have to take a larger sample size. You’re family is part of the 10000 but to you it feels like its less rare
This was excellent! I have had the issue of the sp catheter getting stuck when attempting to change it. Any suggestions for how to handle this as a home care nurse?
Thanks SO MUCH!!! This was very, very helpful. I am getting my SPC in around March 7. I have a request. Can you please spell terms? Many of us are taking notes. Are you saying "hyacinth" or "high assist" or something else? Is the other name for Linc "Yushin"? Having the terms spelled out would be very helpful. Also, holding the packaging in front of the camera longer would be helpful. Again, thank you so much. I am very worried!!!
I had my SPC removed today a week after a prostectomy. I wasn’t given much information about after care (cleaning, wound healing time etc) of the wound after SPC removal, would be grateful for any tips
I got a suprapubic catheter a month ago...its worrying me because whenever i have sex and the feeling and act of ejaculation occurs. Sperm does not come out..😯..my wife asks where is te...!!! Its frustrating
The distracting music ruined what would have been a good video. Why do people on YT think loud background music contributes to the video?
Music i not necessarily. It not a children movie.

Your video has helped me to make a list of questions for my doctor in deciding about having a SPC placed. Thank you both.
I remember chris! He shared a room with my husband at santa clara. Such a nice guy!
Thanks so much for sharing all of this knowledge! My new spc is kind of spooky after self cathing for so long!
Thank you for sharing this I just got a suprapubic catheter on Wednesday I’ve had it 3 days now so I’m learning how to live with this
I had mine put in a month ago. It is a learning process.
NOOOOO, bladder cancer isn't rare. My mom and two friends passed from bladder cancer. It's not that small of a world.

I’m looking for information on urethral bulking with a suprapubic catheter. Would you please discuss this topic?
Are silver impregnated catheters helpful in preventing infection?

music is distracting
No it's not

How to change a super public catheter
0:36
It's called suprapubic, which refers to the catheter's location. The "supra" part means above and the "pubic" part refers to the pubic bone.
