Hi all, have had this issue with my F20 (65 reg). I know its common across many BMW’s though. BMW have actually come up with a repair kit for this issue you will be pleased to know which costs 176. However i payed 180 for everything at a local garage.
@@Twisted_Fate_BE at BMW you can buy the repair kit and get it all fitted. I would advise going to a local garage however that specialises in BMW’s who can do it in an hour or so for a cheaper price.
I'm having the same problem with mine. Annoying rattling at idle seems like it's the timing chain but it's not. Gonna have to take this to a welder... It's incredible how these newer bmw's have poor quality....
Do you happen to have a video about this? Could you upload it if you have it? I have a rattle that sounds like the chain but it clearly isn't it. I think it's coming from the flex pipe but everyone keeps saying we need to tear down the engine without checking it. Very annoying.
Hello. I hit a ditch exactly with the exhaust pipe next to the flexi tube. The car immediately started to rattle and the exhaust vibrated like crazy. I tried today to pry away the exhaust, because it was pushed inwards and I also straightened a bit the flexi tube splines, but it still rattles. Please tell me why?
Thanks for the excellent video 🙂 I wanted to ask, what led you to look at the DPF and start the repair? What are the symptoms? I'm kind of wondering if I'm in the same situation because I see a small oil leak has started to develop right after the flex pipe, right where it connects to the exhaust pipe. I was wondering if I'll end up having to replace the flex pipe itself, because it can't keep a seal anymore?
@@MustangMotors Hey Mustang 🐎 ! I meant oily blackness (which I suspect is oil) accumulating right where the flex pipe meets the start of the exhaust pipe. Not the DPF side, the opposite one. It's accumulating around the tie-ring.
I cleaned my f30 320d dpf and fitted but there is upper side gas kit leaks not much is it need to change gas kit or not this leak occur any fault code if I will not fix it?
I have 2016 ,318 flexi gone, should there be a bracket on the exhaust close to the flexi to give it support?none on mine and it seems like the flexi is having a lot of stress on it
No bracket on the flexi itself or near it. The DPF has a bracket, the rest of the exhaust has brackets on the rear, the rest hangs from that flexi tube. At least so is it under my E90.
Hey, how long did it take for you to repair this flex pipe? need to do the same in my 125D as it smells like diesel in the cabin and metal rattle comes from under the car, was wondering how long will it take if it's a day job or i need to prepare for few days

I had my flex pipe repaired I wasn’t getting symptoms. And was in for repair at BMW for another fault and they fixed this but now I have exhaust fumes leaking into the cabin. They’ve denied the whole thing and said they can’t smell fumes in the cabin..I’m pretty much done with BMW for this. I need to sell the car and get something else.
Thank you for the video. Good visualization of the problem and solotion for it. I have BMW F34 and the same damage.
Got same. BMW E84 2011 year. I became aware of the issue when the mpg went down from 40 to 28.

@@Kaka-hy4pw ok but is it just a weld in part or something with clamps? Cause if it’s a clamp system i could do it myself.
I was quoted £948 for this repair on a 64 plate F33, wasn't given option of repair kit, only to have the flexi replaced and welded.
@@macmad6959 was that at BMW mate?
Hi would a blow out at the damaged/worn flexipipe cause the dpfnto clog up faster and make regenerations harder to perform

Hi the exhaust flexi was vibrating and excessively worn, did you mean oil leak from the exhaust? there shouldn’t be any oil from the exhaust.

@@DimitrisSfounis It's probably exhaust soot. It indicates that there is an exhaust leak at that area
@@georgesunnyt Are you also of the opinion that we should just ignore it? Or is the leak something you'd instantly go about fixing?
@@DimitrisSfounis Well, I wouldn't say it's an emergency item. But I would consider it down the road if you plan on keeping the car for long.

Hello there shouldn’t be exhaust leak between the exhaust pipes. Please Try to repair it. I don’t think you will get fault code

@legioner9 yeah I was talking to a bmw mechanic and he confirmed this. He told me it's a Terrible design.
beautyfull !!!
Where did you purchase the flexi pipe on its own? I have the same problem but could only find a DPF online with the pipe connected
hello you can get the part from BMW Part no 18 30 8 589 078
Did you use MIG welding or TIG welding?

just get the flex pipe repaired by an independent mechanic. why sell it?
@ turns out they’d cracked the DPF collar when re-installing it. Gross negligence
Hello mate , how would I know if mine needs to be done ? I’ve got a 116d 15
hi there, you can do a visual inspection or rattling noise when revving the engine from this Flexi pipe.
@@MustangMotors would there be a rattle noise while idling ? The exhaust shakes as well while idling
@@gpc2988 possibly, I think you should get up on the ramps to check the noise.
Monoxide enters the vehicle or through the vents
