Best purchase for me this year was the new Traxxas Rustler Vxl with the magnum transmission already installed. My worst purchase has to be the HPI RACING 1/18 Nissan Skyline GTR drift car. Never seen a steering servo held down by double-sided tape... from the factory. The really surprising purchase was the Laegendary Triton mini monster truck. It is quick for what it is. Fun to drive in the house.
I read your other post about maybe not making this video. So glad you did as always enjoy your personal experience and feelings as helps me make that final decision on some of my rc buys 👍 looking forward to 2023 weather they are new or an old goodie missed thanks for your valuable honest content 🏆🏅
Great video do you plan on doing some more videos on racing stuff? Im particullary interrested in the yokomo MO 1.0 and SO 1.0 or xb4 23 or something fancy like a nemo racing N1 if they would make a low cg dual battery electro version that would be my go too car... And that long overdue m17 video ;)
A little surprised but very happy to see the MT8 at the top of the list. I have read mostly negative comments about it since it hit the shelves earlier this year. I love mine and haven't broken anything on it yet. Admittedly, I don't go full send with it either, and I don't truly have anything to compare it to because it is my only 1/8 monster truck. Your videos on it have definitely made me feel like I made a good choice with it though, so thanks! Keep up the great work and all the great content you give us and happy holidays! 😎
My top RC purchase this year would be my MT10. The worst rc is the Tamiya TT02 Evo 5. Everytime i go out for a drive, something will break and its getting expensive getting it fixed.
MT10 epic epic epic. The radio and the servo suck but oh man the drivetrain just goes and goes and goes. Front diff outdrive needs to be replaced a few times a year. Chassis is almost indestructible, sometimes you might break an arm. Max bash, minimim wrenching.
@@radiovlogi I’ve change the electronics right away. Went with a dumborc w/gyro, JX Ecoboost 36kg and Hobbywing SCT 120 amp and 3200kv motor. I have not broken anything so far. Got tons of spares just in case.
@@Xandro_B20 I got the same motor and esc combo, with an SPT 28kg brushless servo and a flysky GT-5 with a gyro equipped receiver. The thing is absolutely mad, full throttle at almost any speed makes it backflip:D What amazes me most are the drive shafts, I am inclined to think that they are better than metal ones - I've had the original ones for 10 months.. diffs run smoothly, very little mechanical problems.
@@radiovlogi I kept the plastic drive shafts. Metal bends and breaks and expensive to replace. Everything is stock exept for the electronics and wheels.
The one burning a hole in my pocket is the Hobao mtx. I'll probably be looking to buy one when we get a little closer to spring. Maybe they will have the shock issue fixed by then.
Would love to see you do some truck racing. Like the Tamiya Team Hanh Racing 1/14 truck. It comes with ESC and motor, a cheap kit to get into racing. And lot of fun with cars that are setup the same so you get close racing. 👍😀
Shocked to see MT8 at the top, but as an owner of one it's nice to see it get some love. It's definitely problematic out of the box. I was fortunate enough to get a great price on a used MT8 that was essentially in mint condition! Upgraded to Kajui Arms, and went with Kajui aluminum front and rear hubs, spindles and Team Associated Aluminum steering rack. I'm in just over retail cost now and it's basically bullet proof and drives great on 4s...6s is way too much for that rig! Need to still try and tune it a bit to cut back on the standing back flips off the line lol
Without giving the video away, That #1 Truck threw me for a loop. I may buy 1 and give it a try with some truggy track oriented tires. I also like the 1/10 scale version. Interesting choice picks over all. Good video and input as usual 👌🏾👌🏾.
Since you've been on a nitro kick lately, how about getting a Kyosho USA-1 nitro? They aren't perfect but they're super quirky, lots to talk about, would make some good videos.
Thanks for being honest and not afraid to pick the MT8 (Iwe don’t know this truck so have no opinion on it) our pick would be the awesome Kronos, our best 2022 truck. It just handles amazing and eats Kartons for breakfast at a track 😂
This was a cool video, but although I do agree with your reviews a lot of the time, I'd have to disagree on a few of your choices here. I haven't had half of what you've driven this year, but to put a car that breaks a chassis on a regular basis in the top 5... Come on dude, what are you doing? That's a fundamental flaw, that car should be nowhere near the top 5. But hey, I don't own one, so my opinion doesn't carry much weight on this one. The Hyper MTX deserves a spot in the top 5, but with the lack of setup outta the box, I don't know if I would've put it in third place. Maybe a bit further down the list would be my vote. I can't comment on the Kyosho buggy, I've not owned one and I'm not a nitro type of guy, so I'll leave that one alone. The Kronos XTR is one of the best RCs on the market today, for sure. I love mine and it's taken an absolute beating and keeps going. Definitely well seated in second place (if not first). But the biggest plot twist for me was your choice for the Rival MT8 in top spot. Again, I don't own one, but I've seen one too many videos with durability issues to even consider that truck for the top 5, let alone top spot. I also remember watching your running vid of it on 6S and how undrivable it was, so I'm really surprised to see it on this list at all. In the end, my opinion here matters very little as I haven't owned or even driven half the cars you've mentioned, so don't take anything I've written too seriously. LoL. I enjoyed the video, watched it right to the end and gave you a 👍. I've never done a top - anything - before, but since our views differ a bit and we've had different cars throughout the year, I may consider doing one of these this year as well. Great work on the video as usual and keep up the great work. 🙂👍
Thanks for checking out the video, I always enjoying hearing your thoughts! I will admit to being a bit of a contrarian, but the subtext to all this is that I'm a racer/tuner at heart (racing is 50% tuning, really). So in that light, the order of importance to me is: 1. Performance, 2. Design (tuneability), 3. Durability, 4. Value. This is in pretty stark contrast to 95% of RUclipsrs who would order it: 1. Durability, 2. Value,... 42. Performance,... Design. I gave a nod to Durability with the MTX and to Value with the Kyosho, but the rest are all Perfomance-based. In any case, I hope you have the time to make a Best of..., I and I'm sure all of your subs would love to hear your thoughts!
@@RazorRC based on your answer, I would perhaps separate "racer" from "basher" categories. Maybe do a top 5 performance based (from a racer's perspective) and a top 5 from a basher's perspective. Or maybe don't... 🤷🏼♂️ Not gonna tell how to do your job on your own channel, I'm just brainstorming ideas. LoL. But I get what you mean about the performance, tuning, handling, etc, it's what makes our channels similar, but different. People who watch both of our channels will get good info regardless, but from two different perspectives. 👍😎
@@AussieRCPlayground Thanks for the suggestions. I didn’t explain it well in the video, but this is actually just a “my favorite cars of 2022” list, not a buyer’s guide or anything like that. But I do consider “performance” to be very important for bashing. I made a whole video about this (Team Corally durability), but breaking is a result of crashing, and crashing is a result of a loss of control, and control is really what I mean by “performance”. So to me, they’re all related and why I focus so much on making a basher drive as well as possible.
@@AussieRCPlayground I’ve had similar thoughts on his videos, but he does say that these are HIS feelings. This isn’t a true “Best Products of 2022”. I’ve made the mistake of going at him with stuff I disagreed with, but who are we to tell him what his favorites are? I love the Dementor. It’s insanely powerful. I know it’s not the best overall truck, but personally it’s what puts the biggest smile on my face. When you are able to harness the kind of power a 6s, like the MT or the Dementor puts down, it’s a ton of fun. So I totally get where he’s coming from with the MT8. Many reviewers just review the car in one shot without trying to tune it and tweak the things it needs. So, as many times as I have not been on board with some of his videos, I’m on board with this one. It’s just what he enjoyed. I respect that and enjoyed watching.
Just an opinion but also has been proven in the long run that aluminum chassis are a no go especially in heavier Rc they bend and costs you hundreds to replace and upgrade a good plastic will bend and give way and form back and if it does break somehow then it’s $20 to replace not hundreds. Those are great reason and facts for my opinions to hold true. That’s why I’m not big on Arrma I love the designs besides the chassis and the power and looks but never wanted one bc of the aluminum chassis they are not durable enough
ARRMA make their chassis way too thin and on top of that their claim of high grade aluminium is a lie. Seen someone test a ARRMA aluminium chassis against a real piece of 7045 the same thickness with a bend test, the 7045 was extremely hard to bend while the ARRMA practically held up no fight.
It just depends, there's no such thing as "this is always better, or that is always worse". Arrma plastic chassis are fine on 3S, way too weak on 4S. M2C or JBI aluminum chassis is indestructible. Just gotta be designed and made right, and either can work.
Could you do another video on the mt8? Running footage + longterm thoughts
I think I already got 4 or 5 videos on the MT8.
Loving the nitro content mate!
