2. Crowbar
Also either a Headlamp and/or a Head Camera. Having both hands free is invaluable. Having a few Glowsticks or Glow-in-the-Dark Chalk, or basically anything that glows by itself and isn't too influenced by the environment, is also useful to mark where you've been before when you get lost, especially if the area you explore is not broken up into smaller, independent sections (Like the small sheds and bunkers here) but a larger, more sprawling complex.
3. A hazmat suit

Blow torch and c4
a proper flashlight would be a start
"this cabinet does not contain classified information" is like hiding porn in a "homework" folder
It was probably meant more as an aid to the employees. i.e "Don't put classified information here."
@@RexTenomous that is absolutely what it means, when a government site is shut down or abandoned they copy and discard sensitive and classified documents. If government employees accidentally put classified documents in files not explicitly intended for such it would sorta ruin the point of them being classified. Though most of the tests done on this range were not terribly secret, there was even a high profile accidental explosion in the 70s. So the files here are most likely benign and others were most likely copied and purged. Such as the information prudent to the containment of nuclear waste on the range, (against the wishes of the reservation due to desises and other horrible effects from radiation exposure). High profile rocket development pre - minuteman. Engine tests for weapons and space development etc.
@@RexTenomous In addition to JohnnyCrash's comment, the government will send a team through all buildings that are being declassified/decommissioned by the teams of highly trained cleared employees. They scour every paper, poster, and other items left behind in the building to make sure nothing classified is left behind.

Yeah, they have the crimping like a dryer duct, so I suspect you're on the right track. I think it's for regular old ventilation when it gets hot in there during the summer, though -- the rails suggest the buildings are meant to roll away from the test article during firing.
Of course, considering what most of those engines ran on, they probably double for venting toxic gasses.

Site is located in Utah, the russian signage is due to the site being "inspectable" by russians during the START treaty
@@hugasbernotas3250 thank you that sign confused me.
@@hugasbernotas3250 was searching in the comments for an explanation regarding the Russian sign. Thank you!
Yeah i was like what the fuck are you doing with a tesla in russia
I am genuinely terrified by the way Grey just intermittently slows down and stops in the Strategy Hall. He knows how horror movies work, and so do I, making both of our experience more heart-stopping.
That's cool that there's filing cabinets and documents still there, reminds me of when I found a former Magazine which at some point had been converted to document storage, wish I could remember what I read then.
Me, who watches Lockpicking Lawyer: *sees a masterlock*
"Well, that's not secure"
Exactly what I was thinking
I was thinking about that flash of the key, and knowing the quality of his videos there might be enough there. But youre right, its a masterlock, who needs the bitting.
LPL next video masterlock opens with a tumbleweed
@@nivmizzet2022 With all the trash lying around you could easily make a shim for that lock in almost no time at all
hmm, click out of 1, nothing on 2, binding on 3, little click out of 4

My university was still using ancient equipment for its intro-level physics labs when I took them (although they may have updated it a couple years ago at the same time they were updating the chemistry lab equipment), and I gotta say, I'm kind of a fan of old-school, '80's and prior switches and knobs that make a really satisfying "click" whenever you flip/turn them.
Also, the fact that they were still using lab equipment from the '80's tells you something about the quality of construction, doesn't it?
@@maddie9602 yea these days we don't build things to last anymore ):
What a shame that it is NOT A FUCKING SWITCH.
CGP Grey: The Walking Simulator! 😄 Seriously though, a very well put together video. I had no idea what was going on in this video, but it was still interesting and also oddly calming...? Is that just me?
This facility feels like a Aperture/Syntec kind of area where you can get in and look at all the data/files to try to uncover something big.
remember when this was the guy who explained voting systems and now we're getting full on European arthouse films
yeah

The big concrete blocks inside the roll-away buildings are test stands -- they'd have a rocket engine installed there on one side of that block with hookups for fuel, and use it for test firings to see how the engine acts under different circumstances. You could fire it inside the building, using those view ports for cameras or other instruments, or you could roll the building away and take high speed film of the firing from the camera hut, depending on what kind of engine it was and what you were trying to see.
6:49
Your party enters a small hallway, ending in a door. The door is large, and made of metal. The frame bolted to the concrete wall behind it. There is a sign identifying it as "Equipment bunker #1" and a faded sign cautioning for the use of eye protection. To the right appears to be some kind of tank with a machine on top of it. There are many pipes and wires running into and along the wall between the machines.
The door has a steel pull handle, and 8 Rusted levers positioned around the edges.
The one on the bottom and three levers on the left are positioned at around 2 o'clock. The one up top is positioned around 4 o'clock The three on the Right are positioned at around 10 o'clock.
What would you like to do?
I guess Grey is still in his crusade against the tumbleweeds
Purge the tumbles with fire. Nuclear fire. It's the only way to be sure.
So, tumbleweed, we meet again.
The most emotion he showed is when he flipped the switches, if that doesn’t describe CGP idk what does
Man, the guy was a ball of sress from beginning to end. I guess you missed that.
This man picking up tumbleweeds like they don't have massive thorns on them
The dogs (latches on that marine water tight style door) aren't "up" OR "down" IS locked, it depends of where they are mounted to the door. It's just a bar, with the latch and handle colinear. Each dog has a physical stop that you can see on the outside of the door, that little tab that's sticking out. When the handle is against that stop the dog is unlatched. The "latch" is a beveled friction latch, like a wedge. Notice at 6:49 how they're ALL at an angle with the frame, not parallel? They're all "locked." You'd rotate them each CW or CCW as needed to make them all parallel with the frame, against their stops, and it would be unlatched. You can even see that on the second door you went to at 7:48, where they're all parallel with the frame and against their stops, and you can see how the mechanism works on the inside of the door. Then you went and unlatched the bottom left dog and proceeded to latch the bottom dog at 8:38 on that first door, and since it's basically a wedge, you latched the shit out of it by kicking on it like that. Really jammed that dog in there. Think of it like one those rubber door stops. The harder you shove it in there, the harder it's stuck.
It's of course possible that it used odd shaped dogs (right angle or some non colinear style), but based on where the physical stops were on the outside that's not likely.
I cant stress this enough: look out for self locking doors. Had to kick a door down because of them but i got lucky the hinges were all rusted out
yeah, he would be dead if the vault doors acted that way
He should've brought some large sticks to block the doors from closing.
I have been locked in a stairwell more than once because of one way doors, doors that let you in but don't let you out. Luckily a kind passerby freed me each time, but it taught me a lesson: never close a door unless you make sure you can open it again.
i wouldnt be suprised if someone has died a slow painful death from starvation from one of thoes.
@@checkbordspy4608 Ahh a classic death type!
