- "Sparrow" is from the "Wednesday Morning, 3 AM" album, which was Simon & Garfunkel's first album released back in 1964. This song uses an old folk technique for the picking hand of down strums with the thumb pick and up strums with the index finger. Back in '64, many folk musicians used finger picks, which made this technique work quite well. I thought it might be fun to do this song because of its unusual sound and because of the rather spiritual message of the song from such a young writer. Paul Simon was 23 when this album was released. I hope you like this; thanks for watching! - Glenn

hi Glenn. It's FlutePlayer86 here. Well done. I've always liked the oak tree for some reason. I consider the oak tree to be a very wise an ancient tree for some reason. I love them a lot. When I lived in Tallahassee, we had a beautiful oak tree in our front yard. This tree did not mind me climbing up its trunk for a while. There was a space in the tree that I would get into. I haven't seen an actual oak tree in a long time. As I said, the oak is a very wise and ancient tree.

I know I’m going to be shot down in flames by many here, young Glenn, but - apart from a few of his more well known and commercial songs - I have to say that I’ve never been a great fan of PS and his music.
A lot of it hasn’t been to my taste at all; and yes…I DO have a lot of his albums (solo & as a part of S&G) in my CD collection so I HAVE listened to lots of it!
I know that above statement will label me a heathen in the eyes of many.
But *THIS* song is beautiful and - as per usual - you have covered it and laid it before us wonderfully.
