Released in February 2003, the first single from Moloko's final LP 'Statues' reached number 10 in the UK charts. The video was directed by Elaine Constantine who later went on to make the film "Northern Soul" inspired by the same cultural movement as this evocative Moloko promo clip.

Moloko was always like outside time and space, outside of real world, and it's sound was unclassifiable, uplifting but melancholic, fit for dancefloor but also totally listenable alone. they were really good.

This film is close to a dream life I would love. The apartment, her fashion, the city, dance hall, cool crowd and group of friends, the dance style and the real tenderness and passion shown subtly between her and her partner. C’est magnifique! I’m so far from such a place and any possibilities have been ruined, but at least I can dream!

The great Northen Soul dance moves, it's their own thing and magnificent it is! Roisin Murphy learnt a pretty well-executed version in this film clip, and the great actor Paddy Considine made himself look like a natural (which he probably already was). The whole clip is a great testament to the north, a place you can't help but love, both for its people and their customs. The way they dance is not dissimilar to the 'Melbourne Shuffle' which is no doubt inspired by the northern UK version, but slightly different. It's an absolute joy to watch, and something the northerners can completely claim is their own. I hope, despite music globalism, it continues as an art-form all of its own, a reminder of a simpler, less globalized age.

Was Lucky enough to be brought up with NS as a soundtrack,,, was too young to experience the casino, Twisted Wheel, Mecca,,, but during the revival in the late 80's,,, enjoyed a few all nighters, No booze, no grief,, no beefs about anything,,, just dance,,, beautiful. That first second, when they reveal a well-lit dance-floor in this video,,, that's exactly how it was. KTF
