    Hi love! 💕
I love this fragrance, I’m wearing it today on this hot San Diego summer day ☀️ 07/25/2024
This morning, sprayed my bare arms, legs and neck to catch whiffs of this beauty while I’m at work. ☀️💛
Thank you for your lovely reviews 🤍

It's from a category of fragrance that I feel is entirely overlooked and totally out of fashion. These 1970's style bone dry, very bitter green galbanum & oakmoss chypres are just not covered by most of the people here on 'frag comm' on social media. You either love or hate this style of fragrance (department stores offer a similar option in Sisley's 'Eau de Soir' and 'Soir de Lune'. Anyhow, if you get a chance there in sunny San Diego definitely seek out a stockist for (or a sample purchased online of) Phul Nana and Shem el Nessim by the old English fragrance house of Grossmith. I cannot describe them or compare them to anything else out there-- they're these unique vintage style classics from their own category entirely too, there's nothing like them. And not even close to being 'in fashion' either. I think you'll adore Shem el Nessim.

For me the best perfume ever created. In 1980 I worked as a young girl in a company and smelled it the first time on the wife of my boss. I asked her, if she would tell me the name of her divine perfume. She did. Never smelled anything like this. All my life I had many good perfumes, but none of them could hold a candle to Scherrer. As you say, it's a masterpiece!

Bonjour, I also have a story in finding the Jean Louis Scherrer perfume. Today my wife just received a new bottle of Jean Louis Scherrer delivered. Out of curiosity I was on the internet, found and watched your you tube. Flashback over 40 years ago when we first were married in Dallas Tx. I really have a low tolerance for most perfumes that my wife would use. We were shopping in a dept store, Neiman Marcus and stopped by the perfume department. I told the assistant that I had problems with perfumes and she suggested my wife to try the Jean Louis Schererr perfume. both of us fell in love with this perfume immediately. 40 years later it is the only perfume that she wears. All through the years she has gotten wonderful compliments, asking what she was wearing. They stopped selling JLS in the US. The wife has had difficulty finding quality sellers. If you have a good supplier please post. I am a 71 year young man. By the way, Je trouve, que vous êtes très beau. Love the accent. LHL

Hi Rachel! I am glad you love this one! I believe this one is for perfume lover and coinesseur because it is complex with a lot of different association (vetiver+ white flower+ Hyacynth). But the result is just magnificient. It is also very comforting for me to wear this one during the winter. And it reminds me of San Francisco... About my lipstick video, I delete this one. I am thinking to do an other one with all my Parisian red lipstick collection. I have a beautiful red collection (Tom Ford, Dior, Chanel, YSL) but I don't wear red that often. Usually Parisian don't wear red lipstick that often (not like you see on Instagram or social media)

Hello! Yes if you are a Chypre lover, you have to get this one! I will say that the main direction of this perfume is green and floral. But the green side is on the opening note and it is a very powdery green notes (not fresh green or dry green) and after you get a very delicate floral direction but not sweet or sugary. It is dry and clean. As Chypre perfume are very complex (they blend so much type of notes), it is really the epitom of what is a Chypre perfume. And, of course, it is so elegant.

I notice that you've specified buying the parfum version rather then EDT; is this recommendation just for lasting power quality OR is there a notable difference in scent? I don't smell any of the notes you mentioned here (I bought the EDT after watching your video which I know I mentioned to you once). The one I have is a powerhouse of oakmoss and a very dry, bitter galbanum (it may not have galbanum in it but it's that bitter, dry greenness you find in so many of these 1970s chypres). That's all I smell. If you overspray it gives incomparably intense headaches, my god you have to be careful with these sorts of powerhouse chypres. Do the EDT and EDP smell very different or not really?

Jean Louis Scherrer has been my signature fragrance since around 1987. Several years later, it became difficult to find in USA and I was able to order directly from France. Then again several years later it became a challenge. I purchased it several times from Fragrance net, however sometimes it has been old and reddish color and I have had to return. Other times the color looks fine however the scent is off. I am aware that what is available for online shopping is from grey market so that explains the issues.

I really liked it but I have to admit it wasn't a LOVE for me... I'm not sure if it's the hyacinth or what, but it has a note in there that reminded me very much of KNOWING, by Estée Lauder (another vintage well-liked chypre) but that is one vintage chypre that was a miss for me as well... Not STRONG dislike but not a love at all... A few that I'm REALLY into: chanel no 19 (vintage extrait!) and Miss Dior (I have vintage parfum / extrait AND the edt -- both great)... DIVA by Ungaro.. (Only the vintage ones MADE IN FRANCE... They still sell it but the newer versions (owned by Ferragamo) are made in Italy and VERY DIFFERENT from the original.. I own a vintage edp AND I got a 15ml extrait for $50 (they usually sell for a FORTUNE)... AND BOTH are very good... If you can find a cheap vintage extrait of Mitsouko I would also recommend it..!

Hi Alice - I so enjoy your passionate reviews and the lovely personal stories that go with them! Here - I'm very curious about this Scherrer, given my love of Indian Nights, which I know is a very very different fragrance, but I think I am just about ready to take the plunge on a chypre thanks to your passion for it. And I trust Scherrer completely as a house. One interesting fact - at least a fact if Fragrantica is correct. Indian Nights of course has sandalwood as a base note - it's an orientale and all orientales have sandalwood in their base - but on Fragrantica - it is this fragrance - Scherrer by Scherrer EDP - that has Mysore Sandalwood listed as a base note. As I'm sure you know, Mysore Sandalwood is the highest quality sandalwood from India - but nowadays a very rare sandalwood - as it was over-harvested and increasingly became very expensive so very few perfumers use it - nowadays especially. Indeed, Scherrer by Scherrer EDP is one of the few perfumes on Fragrantica listed as having Mysore Sandalwood - not even Guerlain's Samsara is listed as having it - and Samsara is considered the Queen of sandalwood fragrances! Very odd. Unless of course Fragrantica is wrong!

Allô Bonjour Alice. I came across your video searching for the vintage original Jean-Louis Scherrer. A friend gave me a bottle of parfum in the early 1980s - 1979 - I still have that bottle on my vanity and when I take the top off it still smells elegant but I know it’s probably gone bad, oui? It is 40 years old! I must get a new bottle but searching and glad for links as I have been searching eBay for a vintage bottle and have not had luck yet. Is there a big difference between the perfume on Amazon versus a rare vintage version, like I’m looking for?

    • @ulrikealtmann4655
      @ulrikealtmann4655 Год назад

No, it's not thaaaat big difference and I know both. The vintage is a little more, how can I say, "darker". But the reformulated one is so amazing too. But buy the EDP, it's warmer and lasts much longer on the skin than the EDT. The EDT is in the beginning "sharper", but also nice on hotter days. I would not buy the vintage because of the risk, as you said, that it's gone bad.

What version is your bottle? Is it the original version or newer and is it EDP or EDT? If you have smelled both versions, which is the best to your nose? I am wondering because most chypres have been changed with reformulation due to the IFRA regulations of oakmoss I believe. Great video! OX Julia

It's not your fading memory! The original was a little bit darker, warmer and deeper.
I think I read somewhere, that it had to be reformulated because of new regulations in the healthcare systems in Europe due to allergic risks. And so it lacks now the oakmoss, as far as I know, which can cause such risks. But please consider, this information is without guarantee....😅

Good to know that I can trust my nose and limbic system and my me memory is right.. or is not confused…
A lot of classic Chypre lack the depth and volume and ‚ roundness ‚ of their original formulation, I guess, as you wrote too.
I've heard that as well, with oakmoss, also with Zibet, etc.. Due to health regulations and probably animal rights what is good. I was always a Chypesqua in my very young years (1990s). Scherrer, Coriandre de Couturier, Ivoire de Balmain ( I MISS this a lot), Molyneux Vivre etc etc.. all these now are still very elegant and sophisticated and outstanding from the Mainstream La vie est belle scents, BUT my skin lets them smell too male and too sharp. I know use powdery florals ( Balenciaga instead) as the Scherrer f eg kind if sits on my skin, does not melt with me. I still like it a lot, but it is not the same anymore.
