oh my... how my brain & heart just got flooded w/ thoughts & feelings of pure nostalgic love, heartache, grief, loneliness, reassurance of another's peace, emptiness, happiness... just some of damn near every emotion possible, hearing this. as recently, as late August, this year, 2017, I had the unfortunate, yet inevitable experience of losing the man I was married to, my best-friend. when he & I were first seeing each other this was one of his song to me. I miss him. may he rest, finally, in peace.
@@samanthamurdock3752 thank u. I just read ur msg. Thats sweet. Its a nice thought, but just hard to not go to a sad place. When the closest person to is no longer around. No 1 to talk to, no1 to understand u. It sux
@@samanthamurdock3752 thank u. I just saw this again. When i read it this time, it had a dif meaning. Just hit my ❤. It's a lovely thought...lovely, if so.😏💎💍Needed to hear that. Been going thru sum personal stuff. Thank u. Very nice of u.😘💋💖
This was the first album I ever bought with my own money, when I was still 12. I clearly remember walking up to Grinnell's on Grand RIver with my buddy Ricky Jackson and buying it. I only knew '30 Days In The Hole' at the time, so what a great surprise to hear all those other great songs. This was my favorite right off, 'Come On Everybody' was a close 2nd.
With each great one that passes I have learned to just treasure every opportunity to play and screw the business side of it. You can't take money with you but the joy of performing will stay with your soul and those that saw you long after you are gone. Steve "The Great" Marriott being a perfect example. Keep Rocking indeed my friend.
My step dad made me a mix tape when I moved from Buffalo to Tempe AZ in 1997. This one came on while driving and blew my mind. I like to think it was his way of telling me how he actually felt about me. Rock on Bill. Thanks for turning me onto The Pie
Like David Bowie said the BEST singer ever came out of Britain !!!!! MORE THEN 50 YEARS IN THE BUSINESS SO KNOW WHAT HE SAID !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! greetings from Holland.
Just was watching a movie called "Cherry" based in the 70's. There was a scene with a young couple and this song came on which I haven't heard in a while. Brought back a lot of emotions and memories. One of the great bands in great times.
Did you actually watch the film? It's pretty hard to think it was based during the Vietnam war era considering they were in the Middle East with Humvees fighting Iraq with modern firearms and it specifically shows the year in the beginning..
OHHHH THANK YOU SOOOO FUCKING MUCH!!!!!! I was going absolutely insane trying to figure what movie or TV show i had seen this on. awesome movie man I lived his live in so many ways and I wanted to cry so many times throughout this movie. This song just capped it off
A picses saved my life. Ty. U saw it I saw it with certain habits. An hobbys. Ty. But I have sone one I care for an feel really comfortable with I Paid attention that day in class with pics so greatful I did
Pity there isnt more LIVE Humble Pie video. I saw them around 1973 ?. Opening act was The Eagles. It was a no seating concert, and I was in front of the stage..leaning on it ...about 4 inches from Glenn Frey's boot. Then Humble Pie came on and I was blown away. The Blackberries sang backup vocal. Steve was a powder keg in a small frame. Search Venetta Fields on Wikipedia to understand how the Blackberries were a treat in themselves. Then add Humble Pie. Incredible and Intense.
The Steve Marriott ripoff quote is accurate and thank you for the memorial website. I will visit and sign because I too grew up with The Small Faces and Humble Pie as major musical influences. My own voice sounds a little more like Paul Rodgers than Marriott's . I as a musician was always green with envy at what Stevie could do with that marvelous voice of his. Rock on brother.
always like anyone with a little quiver in his her voice. Got a little one myself.. No one said singers had it easy and those who play are way up there. these guys are up there, and I know they know it. Thanks
Nancy Roysden pray about it and forget about it but be good while youre waiting on God. Know that he will answer you in HIS TIME and has already said yes...
Anyone ever hear the story that when Mick Taylor .... hope I have that right.... left the Stones... Jagger told Keith...Go get someone you like . For a second guitar guy. So Keith got Stevie Marriot . They were in a kind of try out rehearsal . To check out the new guy. Stevie. Story goes...,Mick was singing and Stevie just started belting it out cause that's what he does...Mick turned white...and said get this guy out of here . Too bad Steve Marriot died drunk and alone . Partially because of Mick Jagger ego .
I think that's a definite yes. Very observant. I would venture that his brother Chris listened very carefully to Stevie's voice as well. This is why I was drawn to the Black Crowes and their music. It wasn't a conscious thing it was more of an instinctual and spiritual thing that magnetically drew me to their music. Almost as if my soul was saying this is familiar and comforting. I would also venture that both brothers would give credit to this great band.
With Rodgers rich baritone and Stevie's soaring tenor that would of been an awesome pairing indeed. I sang with hair bands in LA during the 80's but never made it to the big time. But the soundman for Def Leppard, his name Donny Hambrick and the guitar player for France, his name Sammy Karini both compared my voice to Paul Rodgers. Needless to say I was quite flattered.
YES THE SANG BACKSTAGE TOGETHER Paul Rodgers and Steve Marriott the People how were there gave them a standing ovation minetes long !!!!!!!!!!!!!! GREETINGS FROM THE NETHERLANDS.
That they do. The whole baritone tenor combo has worked in many bands. Supertramp and Journey come immediately to mind. The Beatles of course used many voices to achieve this. Also the Eagles come to mind. Canned Heat and Chicago. well you get the picture.
My girlfriend when I was 14 sent me this song but I know we had love. We were together for 10 years then she got killed . It's hard for me to listen to but it's still reminds me of how good we were . Go to send it to my other new girlfriend. Of 30 years. She understands. And we all had the same birthday s... Figure that one out. Love to all in these trying times.
Tune to Vestapol (DADF#AD), clamp your capo @ 2nd fret, hit some harmonics at 12th fret (14th fret, actual) and do a Keef Richards chord thing at 5th fret (7th fret, actual) and you'll be off to the races.
@JustAintthatWay You may see my posting on this song. To me whenever I feel down I listen to this song and it pumps me right back up. Maybe the alltime spirit lifter ever. If you like this song check out my channel. Lots of good old music there to enjoy.

Nobody can sing like Steve .....period
One of the most beautiful songs out there. Rock on Pie.

Fantastic! Discovers this when I was 15 in the late 80s and I've been hooked every since.

Steve Marriot and Greg Ridley were a great vocal team...two totally different voices that just meshed well. This song is a classic example!

Steve Marriot is an incredible vocalist!

Marriott's vocals, WOW!!!!!
Most of "Smokin'" is pretty hard rockin' stuff, but this tune was a nice diversion from the heavy stuff. They really did do a great job on the vocals.
Love it..💕

Nice work, switching from electric to acoustic. Must have been a great time they had.

What to say about the entire album. Masterpiece.
intro similar to Black-Pearl Jam. possible inspiriation?
Remember the days when the songs had a melody, musicians played instruments and gave a shit about their art? Nice.
