100% agree. They both are good. But the Lafayette Coney is the best.
The rivalry isn't real! It's the best marketing ploy ever from two brothers! Opa!!
I'm team Lafayette hands down. I got 2 of each and then went back for a 5th at Lafayette. Plus that old guy has been making dogs there for as long as I can remember.
Ron Ely!!!! I love that the restaurants are beside each other. Hahah
Food for thought: each one was started by two brothers going head to head at each other on who had the best coney dog.
@@swully-ol4lx that is fascinating.
“Happy Hot Dogging” is up there with 🍕⬆️🍕⬇️
I love seeing your family in these videos, your dad has a great sense of humor.
I grew up in Detroit and have had both. My favorite is Lafayette.
Amazing video with Mr Ron Ely!! I can’t wait to go do that challenge. Next time I’m in Detroit , I gotta do it!! 🌭🌭⬆️🌭🌭⬇️ amirite?
When your dad broke out the "holy mackerel!" it took me right back, lol. Born in Michigan (currently in PA); most of my relatives are still there. Loved this!!!
Grew up in Dearborn Heights. Coneys were my number one. Moms first job was a secretary in the Penobscot building. 😊 Hands down, LAFAYETTE BABY! Love Ray by the way. That rhymes! 😍
hell yea DBH for life!
Second video in and i'm addicted ❤️ love the energy
also, as a chef who did a lot of butchering, much love and respect to Mr. Ely!
The weekend binge starts here. Chili dogs AND Ron Ely, that's the way to get the party started.
I love your dad😊 Wish he could be in more of your videos. Keep doing what you do🙂 You always make me smile 😃 Have a fantabulous day.
Yep, I'd live on Coney dogs if they'd let me. I actually love to put tzatziki sauce on them, my brother always said it looked like bird sh**.
I'm adding on because I didn't wait until the end to comment. I remember going to Kerby's at Summit Place Mall when I was growing up, Kerby's is still one of my faves. Shout out to Lipuma's in Rochester as well, even the owner once told me I was going to turn into a Coney dog because I was there so much.
Thank You for mentioning Lipumas in Rochester as they are a contender as well.
That’s awesome! I missed seeing your old man. I’ve been hoping he would be more of a cast member here and on No’6W/cheese ever since y’all did the homemade stuffed burger and impossible whopper vs. regular whopper videos. Your dad doing those Malört shots was priceless 😂
He’s the best; him living in Florida makes it tougher to film episodes together so I had to jump on it today 🌭🙏🏻🔥
These are also some of my favorite videos. 👍👍
Love watching the episodes with you and your dad.... reminds me of hitting up places with my dad before and after school when he was in town from work. These bring back great memories. Thanks!!
Lafayette for me, every time, and a can of Vernors. Although yes, the folks at American are friendlier. But I’d eat a freaking airport coney right now 🤤
Thanks for stopping by, Pops Ely!
WOOT RON ELY IN THE HOUSE
yay!!! Sean's Dad is in the video! he's so awesome!! great video guys!!
Really enjoyed that video Sean, your dads a great storyteller
Wow ! Ur Dad has a really young looking face and u do look like him also. Coney dogs always remind me of the Dragnet movie with Hanks and Aykroid Funny stuff ! Hope u both have a great tuesday Brother ! 💎💎
Ur dad reminded me of how nice mine was the laugh kindness easy going man the memories coming back i appreciate yall thanku
The Legend returns. I really like that.
You 2 are adorable. It's awesome having an awesome dad. 💙
Such a fun video! Hope to see more videos with the two of you!
Yes! The essential Detroit Coney dog showdown. 👍🌭🌭
Lafayette was like a second home for my dad. I used to LOVE going there with him. As the folks in the window would see him coming, they’d serve him 2 coneys as he sat down. They knew him and his order.
Some of my best childhood memories…
I have such fantastic memories of these places and it only brings me the utmost joy to eat in there.
Been on a video binge. Another great video!
Thank you for watching 🙏🏻🔥
Great video guys. Both those Coney places rock! And you voted exactly the same as i do. Lafayette has a slight edge due to the very mild heat factor. However, i will visit the one with the shortest line to be honest!
Thank You. just rewatched your video I needed that 15 min. of forgetting the Bullshit of reality we call life. Thanks Bro.
Love you bro
Amen. Sean and Corey provide a BS free zone.
they both look soooo good!!!
I've always been a Lafayette man myself when it comes to the chili. But I've also found American has a better dog. Their dog has more snap to it and it's so juicy. I always get one at Lafayette then go nextdoor for a second at American. If I can handle it I go back for a third at Lafayette. That's my way when in downtown Detroit. Been doing it since a teenager. I'm 70 now.
Totally agree!
Love that he called it your program. ❤ can he adopt me? Lol
MAD LOVE
What a fascinating rivalry! Only had American but in Vegas. Not sure that counts…haha!
I did the same thing, both in a car, straight from the airport, earlier this year. Hadn’t had since mid 00s, and I agree with descriptions of taste. The difference is subtle & most will differ to American, I believe it’s because the chili is easier to go down, there’s no pause. Overall, for me American is a chicken breast sandwich, off the bone. Lafayette is thigh meat, on the bone. Love both, but depending on the day, one is better than the other.
You should do more with your dad he is a genuine nice guy and is just grt you have a grt dad. Maybe open a channel like "Seans happy hour with dad"
Miss my dad glad you and yours get to hangout
They are both awesome, get one of each!
im hooked
Never have either one. But I think you would love our signature hot dogs from New York. We have three, Rochester has zweigles, Syracuse has Hoffman, and buffalo has sahlens. We love sahlens the most. Great review Sean and Ron.
Sean your dad is a very good food reviewer, he noticed the subtle differences between the dogs.
Everything looked great except that my only problem is that I like brown mustard WAY better than yellow mustard. I wish those places had a choice of the two types of mustards!
I feel you on that - would be pretty epic to get one with brown mustard instead 😍
Did you and Pops switch hats?
Oh man you guys have Tim Horton’s in Detroit? Love them!
Can’t go wrong with either. But Lafayette 4 lyfe. #coneys
Just so y'all know, the main difference between the two places is the onions. American uses Sweet Vidalia Onions and Lafayette uses Spanish Onions. Also, both places are owned by the same family (the owners are cousins).
Wow long Time 😣❤️
Biggest thing I miss from MI is coney dogs.. I love both ... but grew up eating bill's drive thru in Ypsi
Shout out to Papa Ely! You gotta get him back on the channel soon.
I had a leo's next to my last 2 jobs, i've lost like 20 coney lbs since i got a new job lol
Love to see Pops on the videos!
He’s the greatest.
I’ve never had Lafayette but just have to give the edge to American Coney since they had the nads to open up in Las Vegas!
Lipumas. In Rochester Michigan ❤ the best coneys
My choice is always Lafayette. There's just a slightly better seasoning that I prefer in their sauce. The Spanish onions are definitely a better taste, too. Now, that said, I do like American as well. Wouldn't turn either one down. But, Those couple little things will always put Lafayette on top for me. Oh, and I don't get mustard. Never liked yellow mustard. Me, personally, I think it takes away from the taste of the sauce but that's just my singular opinion that means nothing to anyone but me. :)
Now if you want a real trip, Do American or Lafayette, Jackson Coney and Fort Wayne Famous Coney all in a day and compare the three who claim to be the originals. I just was in Huntington, IN and stopped off at Jackson and Fort Wayne on my way down there to do comparisons. I guess you could throw Kalamazoo Coney on that list, too since they've been open since 1915 on Michigan Avenue. ;)
Lafayette reigns supreme.
Never been to Detroit. So hard to say which is better. I agree with you, each can be very good for different reasons. I had an American Clone Recipe from many years ago. I lost it. Bummer. I can find it again I think but it would take spending an afternoon at the library finding the article that had the clone. We had a Coney shop here being founded by Greek Immigrants in the 1920's. Sadly, it closed to the public 30 years ago. I was paying I think 45 cents for a coney when I had them. Question I have, Do Detroit Coneys offer Cheese Coney's? Or is that only in Cincinnati? We just finished Hot Dog Celebration Month and I have had both. At my favorite place called My Place.
Like them both. Flint coney #1 cause born and raised on them.🌭🌭🌭
Hell ya
Now, I think American has a slightly more flavor but Lafayette has the ambience. Both are wonderful. BTW, the snap is only different as to how long one was on the grill because the same company makes the dogs, so, even though the spice profile might be different, I'm sure they're both in the exact same casings, possibly from the same barrel. I hope your father doesn't waste his time rating hot dog places in Florida as our best don't compare to Detroit's. :)
I love the videos, but think I’m the only one that thought he was the oh face guy from the movie office space
I was. I made crazy residuals off that movie.
@@HeySeanElyhey if you’re ever back in Detroit, please look up Ernie’s Market and get the monster. Thank me later
HAWT DAWGS
I agree, they're both really good coney dogs, Lafayette's chili and mustard are just a little better than American's.
Way better.
Lived in and around Detroit my whole life. Lafayette gets the slight edge for me over American, but the best coneys are at Lipuma’s in Rochester.
dad always reminds me of Stephen Root...
GOOD CALL, POPS
I definitely need to try both of these places Detroit gets a bad rap unfortunately but I always say good and bad to every city
The Detroit stereotypes are so misconstrued just like Chicago. It’s a beautiful city with so many hard working people and fantastic spots that make up the spine of the town. I love it so much.
Hell yeah papa ely!
We left Fox theater and was walking by and I had to try, but I could only choose one. I chose American. From what I've been hearing, I screwed up. This was a good one.
Dad had a good pick 🤝
They both purchase there chili sauce from National Coney Island chili company but American Coney Island adds lawrys seasoning salt to it while Lafayette adds vinegar to make it “different”. There weiners are both from Dearborn Sausage Company
This is so hard to pick. I did an experiment in 2022 and ate both back to back and it was still hard but at the time American by thismuch.
2:40 A Ron Ely second angle...
Lafayette uses Vienna dogs that have the natural casings. That is the “snap” you get. A bit better quality.
Lafayette has the better Coney Dog, American has the better experience and nostalgia, but I don’t think either one is best Coney Island in Detroit
So which one is? Ever had Duly’s?
The hot dogs at Trigger Stadium 🏟️ when I was a kid where the best. I still love hot dogs and peanuts 🥜 with the shells on was the best with me dad in Detroit my brother and see the game.
Ron IS the PROGRUM
Team Lafayette for me
I would watch Ron review Florida hotdogs.
I’d personally turn the bell notification on so I was the first viewer every time 😂
Go to flint and try our coney
OK
I like Ron .
Ron Ely 4 Lyfe
🌭🌭🌭🌭🌭🌭🌭🌭🌭🌭🌭🌭🌭🌭
American or Lafayette? I like National!
Duly’s beats them all
Im team american
Gus,s are the best 🫵🏽
haha your old mans cool as hell.
Ron
Should be a felony for people that puts ketchup on a hotdog
I don’t use ketchup on Fries!!😂
A1 is my go too 😂
Allow people to eat their food how they like don't be an a hole.
@@boogitybear2283 Neither do I
Why? 😂
Get some National Chili and Dearborn Sausage hot dogs with the casing and make a better coney then both of them!
It’s pronounced ’Lah-fee-et’ not ‘Lah-f’eye-et’. And Lafayette is the best.
Sorry I live downtown Detroit and these aren't even the best in the city....if u go down the street Kings Grill are way better than both
Duly's crushes Kings Grill
As a detroiter I feel both these places are the most overrated restaurants in town. National coney island makes the best coney imo. Their chili is used by hundreds of other coney islands in area. You're dad looks like Bob Stoops
I love National Coney.
I'm a Leo's guy myself but National good too! For a local favorite in Northern Macomb County try out Ted's in Richmond. I love how they do the fine mince on their onions and they have great chilli!
I grew up in Detroit too. There is no coney better than Lafayette Coney Island.
@ronaldwright9358 most overrated rated/hyped restaurant in Michigan. Plus they dirty ASF
Detroit is the most over rated city.
I live in Louisville and atleast we are famous for chicken.
On Dixie Hwy in Louisville we have over 20 chicken restaurants in a couple of miles.
We also have horse racing, Nascar, a strong college sports, we also have multiple car manufacturers, and dont freeze like Detroit or other northern cites.
The cost of living is one of the best in the country.
Home to one of the best fish restaurant in the nation, Mike Linnings.
Without a doubt Louisville, Ky home of the Kentucky Derby is one of the best cities to live in.
Crime is one of the lower cities.
We also are close enough to most of the east coast major cities can be got to within a couple of days most other cities can be reached.
Kid Rock an insane over 50 year man child is the biggest person other than Eminem the rapper who is also around 50.
Louisville Kentucky yes Colonel Sanders. Kentucky home to Abraham Lincoln.
We also have less poverty. A better tax rate, less pregnancies.
Louisville, Ky overall one of the greatest cities in the United States.
You are quite literally the first person in history to call the city of Detroit ‘’overrated’’ 😂
It is historically looked at negatively and the people who live there have worked their asses off to make it a place that outsiders could come to and enjoy. The food, the residents and the city itself is so unbelievably underrated or even moreso, not even looked at to begin with. Maybe one of the wildest takes I’ve read here, Mr. Dan.
@@HeySeanEly what is Detroit famous for? Pizza they stole from Chicago.
So other cities don't have people working their assets off?
Detroit did not do anything to keep thier city expanding.
They lost auto manufacturers and did nothing to replace it.
@@MrDan11422why are you the way that you are?
@@patrickwindes Just because I believe Detroit is over rated.
The city doesn't offer anything original or special.
I literally have no desire to visit.
Detroit stlye pizza, is square pizza.
Other cities make cars.
It is a city who steals alot of its identity from Chicago.
Honestly what is so special about Detroit?
Because manufacturer left the city and state it is one of the poorer cities, with water I would be afraid to try.
@@MrDan11422 It’s great to see that you have such a passionate love for Detroit, Mr. Dan. I agree, it truly is a wonderful city. Stay blessed!
I cant pick one.. I hit up both everytime..
I normally will get one or two from each, too.
Wow ! Ur Dad has a really young looking face and u do look like him also. Coney dogs always remind me of the Dragnet movie with Hanks and Aykroid Funny stuff ! Hope u both have a great tuesday Brother ! 💎💎
