Dancing on knives is a really rare ritual, i never knew about this stuff and as amazed that South Korea is practicing this
Is there another culture that does Dancing on Knives?
It's like fire walking - basic physics makes it reasonably safe.
how are they devil worshipers when they were doing this long before christianity was around? lol
God created heaven and earth long before any religions formed and falling angels became devils.
@@sundelong2727this is their culture and that's what you have to say? gfy
Because the spirit of demon in them practicing such supernatural phenomena. I heard that she feels ecstatic . When I was an atheist, I didn’t know the difference between the Spirit of God and the spirit of demon.
She is definitely possessed by the spirit of demon .
Christianity extends back to Abrahamic Jewish religions lol
@@sundelong2727 i feel like Christianity is a very simplified religion. There is god and then there are angels and demons, the angels are good and demons are evil. If i go according to my religion there are a lot of other entities such as demigods and local gods and spirits. The demigods too are heavenly beings residing in heaven. Whereas the local gods and spirits are assigned in our earthly land, some of which are good and helpful towards humans and others rather mischievous. So you cannot say that the things that posses them are demons. And about her feeling ecstatic, when you have a being of higher realm posses you no matter if they are gods, angels, demons or any other entity, it's normal to feel that way
Shamanism is absolutely fascinating.
I've seen a demonstration of the knife - dance back in 1982, when my town hosted a World's Fair. Doesn't seem much different than walking on glass or hot coals like they still do in India. The nervous system can do all kinds of unusual things - like cranking someone's adrenaline up to where they can lift a car off of a trapped person when they themselves weigh only 120 - 130 pounds, maximum.
It’s also real human energy being released in such a powerful ways, all must understand
It’s Truth👍🏽❤️ (no) Joke😎
Surprised that such cultures still exist!
And for the narrator information, blunt knives don't cause bleeding.
The narrator is confused. Mudang/Manshin are the people who under go shin-naerim gut. Lay people do not undergo this rite and hereditary shamans don't either. The chaktu are extremely sharp knives and if someone isn't possessed or otherwise, it will hurt them.
the standing on knives is like a rite of passage in becoming a shaman. I love this. shamanism is a big part of my culture.
멋진 우리의 문화!
I am here because I am distracting myself from study for my finals.
Kai Kuriyama 5 years later but still relatable
it's been 9 years but me too
Been 11 years and still relatable
This is the nat geo I subscribed to.
this is crazy...but incredible too.
if a blade is dull it will not cut.also ware she is standing on the blade distributes presser evenly.
I'm sure they sharpen it. If not there is really no point of it.
Greeting from Nepal Himalays. Power to the World Tribal Healers.
Wow. Awesome. Ermagerd.
pretty cool.
yes there is
About the sharpness of the blades, mudangs say they need to be sharp. Then they don't get injured. If the blades are dull, they do get injured because that means they did not have full faith in the spirits that possess them. The spirits would get angry and get back at them.
I never knew shamanism was still practiced....I always thought a mix of Buddhism and Christianity was popular in Korea...
About half of Korean population have no formal religion.
Korean shamans are the most unique shamans compared to other shamans in my opinion.
SHARMAN KING! SHARMAN KING!!! IF YOUR SPIRIT IS STROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG, YOU CAN BE THE ONE!!!!
Guess what, Shaman King is gonna reboot its anime adaptation next year.
I don’t understand all the hate. It’s like they never went to school and took and Anthropology class. Human beings are fortunate that ancient wisdom survived despite bigotry and fanatism.
you will see more church crosses in SK than anywhere else
Try that with Ronco's Showtime knives with flavour injector
why does jesus have to fit in to it? it's shamanism, not christianity
I wonder what spec she'll roll
I understand this then the doomsday preppers...
So... is she like Resto spec, or what? Was that Earth Shield they cast before the knife dance?
anyone watching the moon that embraces the sun? :)

Real Shamanof Asia. Not like fake new age thxs.
WHYYYYYYYY!!!
You are from Canada.. How should you know?
O lol...

3:17 she kicks in 5 bucks. She has another 10 dollar bill in case her foot bleeds.
exhuma brought me here
Very similar to voodoo
ofc it's blunt
Wtf
Well, that knife is not really sharp or something...
kind of relates to Hmong people
I want to know what they be smoking and how do I get some
Fascinating how people can still be so superstitious. I'm going to continue on my education.
It’s not that people are superstitious but it’s ritual involved with spiritual dimension . There is spirit of dead inside of her to dance on the knife cause her spirit sustained her .
( she is not in the flesh but in the spirit )
When person is entering the spiritual realm , it doesn’t affect her physical body .
Your intellect and knowledge can be a separate thing from the beliefs that guide your conscience.
Humans are wierd and kinda silly, it's fun to watch how each human flirts with madness in its own way! :)
That is why we are humans.
wtf
Christianity in SK is huge...
well it's much more like a fashion show to be honest .. how weird besides most of korean and chinese and japanese and most of east Asia are christians
obviously its not sharp.
It is.
Why not you check it out before you comment.
And they get paid hell yea
Kim Jong Yun Chief Shaman
The Big bang theory has nothing to do with evolution. I amazes me how many people still confuse the two. The big bang theory does not prove that God does not exist, nor does evolution. Open your minds to the fact that God is more than your feeble minds can wrap around. The Big bag theory, evolution are nothing more than beautiful amazing pieces of total creation.
i believe i read somewhere that unlike china and japan, christian population is greater than buddhist in SK. im south korea. theres a whole lot of christians
big waste of time
I thought this was about her being sick and getting cured, not finding her "destiny"? it's all total BS
Not very bright are we? Clue [you articulate it in your question - "it's shamanism, not christianity"
...and the over-arching principle is.....? That's right - "spiritualism" now does it make sense?
Another point which is very clear to bare in mind is: We are, to me, of energy. In english, at core, we are spirits.
Now does it make a little more sense? Got a tight schedule. Albeit i'd like to trade barbs with you, better things to do - you see. Be well.
really....? smh.
No balls
OPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPA GANGNAM STYLE
Yo sure your knife aint too blunt , dude?
Nothing to be shame of its very beautiful and peaceful. better than the poison you having been fed for the last 50 years! Christianity!
You are toxic and ignorant. Christianity and its Trinitarianism is very similar to the Highest Sky Trinity in Korean Shamanism. You talk all think nonsense without even having a clue about the Father-Son-Spirit dynamic.
The biggest persecutors of Korean Shamanism were the Confucians, who severely persecuted it for 500 years.
Aise Hindu I am studying other relations
Will they dance gangnam style?
Those who call thsi devik whorship, christianity was made to keep the slaves obedient.
nobody did.
Erm... most of my Korean friends are christian...
I'm Korean and I wasn't even aware that a substantial amount of people were still practicing shamanism in South Korea.. It's probably just a few isolated pockets in the rural areas.
"In the modern era, despite the advent of scientific rationalism and the rapid growth of Christianity in Korea, Musok has flourished. The New York Times reports there to be around 300,000 musok-in working in contemporary Korea."

dull ass knife. and a lot of bored women
It's sharpened.
Theres not much Christianity in S.Korea, good try Nat Geo.
I wish the voiceover was done by a Korean. Really bad accent.
Perhaps she has a mental disorder? I find this interesting because as it relates to something I learned in philosophy. In short, the vision one receives while entranced will always be based on the culture one is living in... perhaps in christianity talking to jesus christ, or in Buddhism speaking to the Buddha
Because we mainly elaborate on what confirms our schema and biases.
Utmost respect for their religion. One thing. Where does JESUS fit in all this?
They had me at the knife lick. Someone suggest such an activity, i'm making for the hills like yesterday. Can sustain significant pain {first thing one is taught in Jiu-Jitsue is how to fall} but c'mon now. Lick a blade? A little sceptical about standing on one. That one not quite as dangerous.
Possessed alright - as in; 'have you lost your ever loving mind?'
the spirits are called Jinn- from the invisible world ('Alam alghayib), and we are not to interact with them whatsoever - they are mentioned in the Qur'an- the Most High says:
"I have not created jinn and mankind except to worship Me (i.e. the Only True God)." Chapter 51 Verse 56
They have their own world, and have different characters and statuses just like us human beings, some are religious, some are not, some are evil, some are not:
"And some of us are the righteous, and some of us are otherwise; we are sects differing."
Chapter 72 Verse 11
In every culture, they claim to be something that befits the understanding of that culture. For example, for people who believe in reincarnation as an incarnation of a deceased soul; for people who believe in ghosts as a ghost of a girl who used to live in this house; for a person who believes he can see angels as angels and so forth.
In another Verse:
"And there were men from mankind who sought refuge in men from the jinn, so they [only] increased them in burden. " Chapter 72 Verse 6
And all shamans and all witches, clairvoyants, fortune tellers, ouigi board players over the world are just an example of what is meant in this verse.
This is so stupid
