Hannah meets someone who found their way into the magical world of mushroom growing quite by chance.
Dean Smith bought a house at Mount Rumney, east of Hobart, that happened to have a disused railway tunnel on the property. Someone in the mushroom industry heard suggested using it to grow mushrooms - and so that’s what Dean now does!
The tunnel was built in 1891 but trains stopped running in 1926. The main mushrooms now growing here are oyster and shiitake.
