Top loading it will make the strings perceptibly slinkier.
Did you try reflowing the solder joints on the switch and pots first?
If you do watch for them graying out when you add fresh solder, thats leaded and factory lead free solder mixing. Itll look like a cold joint and will become one soon. Get the factory stuff off with braid and a solder sucker.

I tried, OAS. I did not focus on that as much as I should have probably. I might have to give that another look (and go). Maybe I should do the same thing with the wafer and start with fresh connections? Thanks for the recommendation.

@@TedTalksGuitars I would suspect the switch first, try to reflow it, see if the sound goes.
If you're keeping FF's tone control wiring check the capacitor grounding. 50s tone control wiring opens up the sound/tone quite a bit, I myself favor it.
Another thing that happens with cheap Teles is the bridge grounding. If the new bridge pickup has a steel or brass backplate and is tied to the negative pickup lead that backplate is grounding the bridge.
If there's an additional grounding lead (which I believe FF does) that sets up a ground loop. If your pickup backplate is in fact soldered to the negative pickup lead try disconnecting the extra bridge ground in the control cavity and check for the noise. If your ground is good without it get rid of it. Your ground should be good without it.

This guitar is a massive nugget. I got one, tuned it up, swapped in Tex Mex pick ups, can't put the guitar down. Amazing tone. Such a great deal. JSN(the Chinese mfg of these guitars) keeps upping their game. Thanks for GuitarsGarden for getting them into the US market.

Thanks for the comment and hanging out on the channel. Mine had issues due to the relic material, but after some TLC (funded in large part to a refund from GG) it is one of my favorites. I like the light weight and feel of the neck most of all. Rock on!
