- 14th episode of my retro-gaming series: Let's discover why this game failed to have the same success of Gran Turismo 4... Enjoy! :D

A very underrated game, completely overshadowed by Gran Turismo 4's popularity around that time.
Splash 45, for me even Enthusia Professional Racing surprisingly miles above even GRAN TURISMO 7. Longtime no see bro.
One thing u hate about Enthusia is that i never played in my childhood
Yea never even knew that this game existed
@@manhealme same right here
Same
Usually, games like these would be found in a bargain bin in a discount store
It was my game of choice when it was released for a while, but would never have known about it if I wasn't a big downloader with a 40 wire modchip
I miss the mid 2000's. Racing games were the rage. Now it's all about battle royales.
The fact that this game had the most realistic automatic transmission shifts is a winner in my book
-More challenging (and unforgiving) physics than GT4. Steering wheel is a total gamechanger.
-Better sounds than any PS2 era GT
-LOTS of interesting cars
-Poor variety of tracks
-The worst "Campaign Mode" ever conceived for a racing game
-To me, Enthusia never got the respect it deserved. A gem of the PS2 era.
Was it good with steering wheel? I play it with pad, but i see the potential 😂
basically an underrated game
It was a game changer with a steering wheel because it had throttle control, some cars were hard to control like the Pantera, the Caterham, M3 Evo, it was no joke.
Fading brake lights, real automatic gearbox simulation (you could kickdown) were features that weren't in any other game and still aren't in todays games. This game was so good fro drifters with the dragon range touge.
I have always thought what would have happen if this game had launched on PC, I think it would have been a quite respected game on the PC community, maybe not sucessfull, but...
It doesn't need to be better or worse than GT4. Enthusia is special as its own.
And have one of the best touges ever made: Dragon Tail.
Oh yeah, every time I play on arcade mode, I always play dragon tail once
Funny thing is. That i got always drive in Dragon Tail on Konami arcade game called "Road Fighters 3D" (2010)
@@abdullahisdanul107 Indeed! This game have more tracks from Enthusia, but in a larger scale.
Someone on GTPlanet actually pointed out that there was supposed to be a full-blown story mode with all its drama but didn't make the cut, so all that's left is the intro.
Still it's equally as cool as GT4's one.
Woah thats pretty sad
Makes total sense... Now, imagine a GT-like mode with a "cheesy" background story very alike to Ridge Racer Type 4 or, better yet, the whole Ace Combat saga.
@@Sammael66685 I still believe to this day that a sim-cade racing game with an Ace Combat story mode would be fairly popular!
@@jordansomeone2555 I do as well. And Ace Combat 7 expectation and success proves both of us right!
@@Sammael66685 I wouldn’t wish it to be like AC7. AC7 was to cheesy, the characters were written bad, except „Mihaly Dumitru Margareta Corneliu Leopold Blanca Karol Aeon Ignatius Raphael Maria Niketas A. Shilage“ 😂
Could imagine a mix of AC5 and Ridge Racer Type4. Both had a healthy portion of drama, excitement and were titles with a big character and very much interesting protagonists. Even RR Type4 was all text based, it was well written and immersive. Mostly funny fact that Kei Nagase from AC and Reiko Nagase from RR are sisters, it took me 12 years to realize that, GG Namco 😅
The *D R A M A* of that opening cinematic.
reminds me of PS2 Kaido Battle's intro
@@joehaqim1843 also reminded me to Colorful Dreams Colorful Smiles intro.
I played this game a couple of years ago and let me tell you, it was a wonderful experience.
Gran Turismo 2 Car selection meets Gran Turismo 3 aura meets Gran Turismo 4 graphics.
I've never seen a more dramatic intro to any game I've ever seen in my life 😂😂
the song slaps
And the game has nothing to do with the intro.
Ugh I've never cringed harder in MY life 🤮🤮🤮
Its been years and I timed the closing hand on the mini cooper with the glass cracking perfectly
This game brings me the old racing game 'chills' :)
Rip me, a mobile gamer 😞best racing experience is real racing 3

Finally you gave it it's due. Was kinda wanting to see your take on this game. I haven't played Enthusuia yet but yeah, I can tell that the physics are much better than in GT4. In fact apparently one of the guys who worked on this game was apparently hired by Polyphony to work on GT5, and it kinda shows
yes ! Finally :D !
What i like in enthusia it's the fact that you've got a clutch, a realistic automatic gearbox and you can desactived all the assists for every car ,some little details that make it even better
Assists are for pussies
Gimme 550hp and rwd on economy tires lmao
Check my channel, I only use ABS
Agreed on the automatic gearboxes. I remember being surprised by the accurate feeling and sounds of a torque converter autobox in the AMG cars
Apparently. The intro was done during a time in development where the game was meant to have a story mode involving a photographer and her pilot husband dying in a car crash during a race. Thus the dramatic intro.
No,its her father
Lot of people may don't know or had already forget it, but the launch and purpose of the game was initially a racing game with a beautiful story , the devellopers wanted to bring an amazing story in the game which was what lacking on most racing game, It's why on enthusia, you see those amazing beautiful music and one of the most beautiful intro of racing game ever. Enthusia is far away to be a gran turismo clone, it has his own identity and vibe, his original purpose was totally different. But with money related problem and the big success of gran turismo 4, they needed to bring it fast on the market, so they decided to entierly wipe this aspect of the game (the story). Which is why enthusia can feel somewhat off or empty at some point. Enthusia could had been a big success if konami would had take more risk towards the devellopment and less focusing on his rival which was gran turismo at it's time. Sadly it's will be the last racing game that konami will make despite it's a truly gems with the best car physics ever at their time. People who own this game when it was out, know when they played it that it was a gems, yes gran turismo 4 had more content, but the driving experience is stellar on enthusia, specially with a steering wheels. Wish that konami can bring back such racing game even if it's impossible by today standard.
WhiteCharisma, even Setsuna Yuki and Coco Hayashi all loved the intro of Enthusia Professional Racing. Its so dramatic.
This had to be the first console racer that simulated lift off oversteer. It used to kill me in the NSX.
I cannot drive the NSX without spinning constantly is this why??
the intro might be quite dramatic, but we gotta admit, Enthusia's theme song is simply heavenly
Discovered this in quarantine and started playing after I got a PS2 they physics here are really good and I found myself agreeing with your points. The hazard lights flashing in the pause menu was really fun for me as well 😁 always love your videos, I can't donate so I support by giving leaving a like 👍
I still have my PS2 copy, original case and everything! I had a blast playing this, listening to the soundtrack, and even that dramatic opening sequence which now makes me believe we should be a photographer at racing events rather than a driver. But the feel of the game, how mysterious it made the Nordschleife appear, the nature of the game made me play harder, try harder to beat it!!
i remember a demo version of this game on the ps2, from my childhood.
Me too. Always thought it was a spin off of Gran Turismo
I love the brake sounds of this game and how they simulate automatic cars (I mean models of cars that don't have a manual version)
i was a fan of you in 2017... today i was thinking about this channel and started to look for it. finally found it. iam SO GLAD you still making videos, lets go!
ONE OF MY FAVORITE CHANNELS!
Congratulations 👏🏻👏🏻
I hope one day to reach the same success as you on RUclips! 🏆🏆
Excellent game, with this and GT4 I was the happiest kid ever. I love the feel of the music, the graphics are great, the selection of cars is amazing and I admire the "different" style of driving
Great video, I like those videos in which you are bringing back the early 2000's racing games vibes! And as you already said, too bad this was not available on PC because I bet I would have played it too.
Definitely my favourite racing game of all time, this game physics was way ahead of it's time but sadly it didn't make any comeback, and I don't think it will.
I played it with a steering wheel back in 2010 when I got my ps2, I was living the dream back then.
The funny thing I got it with need for speed most wanted but I played Enthusia more lol.
I have sweet memories from 2008, I've got ps2 from a friend of mine with Enthusia. Firstly I was disappointed what it's not GT4, but when I tried physics.. man, what a feelings! Accomplished every challenge perfectly!
I think one of the best parts of this that has not been mentioned yet is that is the only game I have ever seen that rewards you for being a good driver, every other game is based on having a tuned OP car (like GT), or is just based on having the same or similar car and being better, so they discourage you on picking up the car you want. Enthusia on the other side is a game that encourages you to pick up the car you want or try weird things and try to win superior cars, I have not seen any other game with this intention or mechanic so far.
WOW! I just got it for my emulator. 10 years ago I saw this game at a used dealer and it really looked interesting but I didn't buy it and forgot about it eventually. 2 Weeks ago I reminded myself about this game and OHHH BOYYYY how surprised I was! This game is a masterpiece in my opinion and now you're uploading this video. What a crazy coincidence :D
Am i the only one that hears the man that says Enthusia at the intro sounds like David Hayter from MGS?
Definitely sound like him! 😂
@@Moonfaster yeah but too bad i heard him later he isnt him but he made it sound so accurate 😂
Aaargh, colonel! GM cars are piece of crap!
@@soldadoryanbr7776 "arghh, it's rotten!"
Think he was moonlighting back then.
I really like this game and I play it to this day, wish that more people played it and it had better recognition. Unfortunately we didn't got sequel, could had been a great game for the PS3 and 360.
Oh well, thanks for sharing your experience viper.
I remember playing this game around 2008-2009 an thinking the same, the physics are better than gran turismo ones..
This video means a lot to me, it was a flashback. I used to play this game a lot when I was like 5 lol
Really enjoy your review! Thanks
I come back to your channel sporadically, so imagine my shock when I see this video in my reccomendeds hear your intro then I exclaim "WOAH, HE HAS A VOICE?"
There was a game called Sega GT 2002 that has a similiar style to this, its on the original XBOX
And similar to Enthusia, Sega GT 2002 was overshadowed by Forza Motorsport and the Project Gotham Racing games. Very sad, if you ask me.
And on Dreamcast.
@@babaogluemin The Dreamcast game was the original game, the prequel. And yes, it was a good game, even though Metropolis Street Racer was a little bit better.
The original Sega GT is my favorite Dreamcast racer.
SEGA GT 2002?
Thank you so much Viper for this review ! I was waiting for it desperately ! Clearly this game was awesome for a first attempt, so sad they didn't do another one, it could have done something really good... Awesome video man ! Keep it up ! 😁
I spent great moments of my childhood with this game, and I still want to play it if I have the chance!
This is one of the few games where the A.I. actually felt alive and made me sweat. Where the A.I. in GT4 will go in the same line no matter what and will bump you if you're in his given line, the A.I in Enthusia will try to pass you left or right or will slow down if it's not possible til a chance happens.
Beats the ai from assetto corsa lmao
@@AdolfHitler-xp1nx Yeah, it's too bad. It's a tad fixable with modded AI lines for each tracks and the right % for the opponents agressivity and difficulty.
@@RotaryLover my favorite AI are the ones from rfactor2
@@AdolfHitler-xp1nx Never really tried RF2 except the open beta back in the days so I dont know exactly how it is. I'll try it out soon or later.
I played this game 2 years ago on PC and it was pretty fun! It's pretty hard for me to go back to these old sim games, be it this or Gran Turismo. HOWEVER some of the music in this game is downright beautiful. I highly advise everyone who reads this to listen to "Lyricism-Rain" from the night Rome track, it's just... Beautiful.
This is giving me major nostalgia. I played this on my PS2 back in the day and loved it. It felt incredible at the time with the Logitech Driving Force Pro with 900 degree steering.
From reading a lot of fan translated manga which includes the entirety of Initial D, I got the impression that the Japanese have a dramatic flair.
It may get toned down in the localized translations for foreign markets but the direct translations match up with the exaggerated facial impressions and body poses.
I still feel bad for missing out on Enthusia. I had no time for anything but GT4.
Oh, Enthusia! I played this game recently and it got me extremely frustrated in some places) But still, handling is so unique, it's take time to learn and lots of patience to master. Car selection is just amazing, feels more like Forza Horizon or something.
The photographer's acting skills are mad good
Did she died or not on that crash? I've asked myself why after the crash she was under a bridge lol
You think that's good acting..? I suppose you also think Sharknado was a masterpiece then. 🤦♂️
@@virtuosic4883 least she doing something in life
Your turn
@@at-cj2iy Do you think every case of doing something is better than not doing anything?
The car physics in this game are still the most realistic I've played. Granted I haven't played asseto corsa or any of the modern super sims.
thank you so much for taking my suggestion seriously
I totally forgotten about this game until you rediscovered it!
One of my favorite game in my early ages.
Thx. Viper.
I remember trying it out in 2019 (I think) and driving the Estima round the Nordschleife was amazing! At the time it was probably the 3rd best out there, just behind Richard Burns Rally and Live FS (Never played that). Thanks Viper, epic game!
funny things is i just played this game 3 weeks before u reviewed it viperconcept. i know this game first because of xtimelessgaming who posted in his youtube about enthusia professional racing , and frankly i didnt enjoy it first because its hard to master the cars but nonetheless after playing for 4 hours im finding this game quite enjoyable. one thing that stands out is that all cars (in my opinion) are sounds like their real life counterpart. for comparison check 787b from gran turismo 4 and enthusia professional racing if you know what i mean
On gt5 my main drift car was a wildly tuned 787b, would always drift on Tsukuba or fuji or wherever (backup drift car was a lp640 Lamborghini or Chevy zo6, both stock)
Damn I'm feeling mega nostalgic because of this video and the comments
Loved the video man, can you do a series talking about old racing simulators for PC?
I used to play this game. Physics were undeniably superior to GT4, and I loved the tracks.
The game also allows clutch control which came handy sometimes.
I've never heard of this game. I've played a game like this. It's called Total immersion Racing and it's been from 2001. You can try it if you want
I used to play tir, too. Had so much fun with the tt on monza
I remember that Lister storm. Perhaps the first game featuring multiclass racing?
Yes, I remember it.
It had a very basic nemesis system, like GRID nowadays. 😅😂✌🏼
Total immersion racing is much more like an earlier version of Grid. There's no consumer cars like Enthusia or Gran Turismo.
This intro would fit more better with racing game with a story like NFS for example
I didn't heard about this game. Thanks ! :)
No PS2 at home, but I had seen the embedded video at the end of this review, and it made me want... Even today, that looks great
I've been on and off with whether I should buy this game or not for YEARS and YOU sir have convinced me to finally try it!
I've always wanted an video essay about enthusia since I found this game out when a friend showed me it in 2016, I'm fascinated with this game, both because of it's astonishing simulation but also because it gives me an weird sence of nostalgia, like if I played it in my childhood
Wow bro this was like a documentary 👍🏻
that intro was actually pretty good
I missed this series is the best
the most epic intro I've ever seen )))
I remember the time when this come out, we were waiting insanely for GT4 , but insanely, like we were waiting the first release then got delayed... Then delayed again, i remember those days, it was like everyday checking how much till the release, and i remember see Enthusia here and there and i thought whoa looks nice, but literally we didnt remember that game till almost a year after, for the moment it was a cool game , but dosnt compare for me with GT4 because i got like 1000hs in it the first 2 years
I had 7000hrs+ in gt5 and gt6 on my ps3 back in the day
I had the fastest top end and quickest accelerating veyron for months on both of em, not to mention my race converted tvr Tuscan that could do a 6:4X:XXX times on sports soft tires on the ring, thing had so much acceleration it would gap everything else on the track, and the tuning i did made it dead stable and predictable
Respect to polyphany digital for the whole GT series (can't wait, am pissing myself with excitement for gt7)
Given the current situation with Konami, it will be extremely unlikely that we'll have a sequel to this beautiful hidden gem, as unlikely as Kojima coming back to Konami.
This is interesting, will try some day
what I've been waiting for this video ...
played this game A LOT in the mid 2000's, nostalgia
Your Content Are Awesome i Mean I like It
ah yes Underated game, and underated car as thumbnail what a perfection
I love watching ur driving
I hope they remake this game, it has such a great car driving physics.
I was playing this recently on my PC and it is possible to use a wheel. It plays extremely well with a wheel. Force Feedback however is hit or miss depending on the wheel. I did not have any luck getting the Force Feedback to work but other people have said that they can get it to work. I encourage you to look into it if you are interested.
I've played it! I loved the Driving Revolution missions 🥰
ikr! it's such a great game! I played this all the time in 2013. I'm gonna get another copy asap to start playing again.
whoa incredible ... I think I am one of the only ones who had the opportunity to play this game and not have played gt4 in its day, I had a great time at 3 years old (I am 16), without a doubt the best playstation2 game I played Thank you for remembering this title
Actually this was the first racing game i ever played before any of the GT series
Good lord they went all out on this game. I should look into this more sometime
It was such a cool game back in the day, and with some cars you'll need a wheel, I remember rambling on a race with the Pantera or the Viper, it was hard.
Zero dislikes... what a masterpiece!
The voice in the game is like "ENTHUSIA! 😠👊"
I like the music of the car menu
Thank you for choose the Citroen Xsara
It's crazy and sad to see how many classic or good franchises are dead because of Konami's bad managerial decisions
9:07 Do you use the PCSX2 emulator? You can emulate the steering wheel, and force feedback works too, I have a Logitech Momo and it works perfectly with Gran Turismo 4 and other racing games with wheel support.
Very interesting content, big LIKE from VIBIK Games 👍
Cheers my friend 🍻
WOW! The game looks really good!
Saludos desde Argentina Sr. Viper
I remember playing this game when I was 6 or 7 but forgotten the name for years till now
The game's intro was "dramantic" because Enthusia was supposed to have a story mode, where you play as the camera girl. It was cut off due to tine constraints sadly, and we're left with the Enthusia mode instead.
Which is a shame since there aren't any sim-ish racing game with an actual story mode.
What about TOCA.
I LOOKED FOR THIS GAME FOR 11 YEARS BUT I FOUND IT 2 YEARS AGO AND FUCK DO I REGRET NOT FINDING IT AS A KID. I played it in a demo and found love at 1st sight since I was looking for another game besides Gran Turismo, and since then I looked for it but I found it when a used game store opened near my house. Me and my dad looked so far for it and it was so close.
Damnn what an intro!
That intro was overboard dope for no reason. Reminds me of Ridge Racer intro with the storytelling, but they just had to add Jesus too...
There was originally supposed to be a a story mode involving those characters

Enthusia is my favourite PS2 game
I think I played this game when I was too young. I remember finding it hard to even start a race (especially with all of the tuning and set up) and when I did I wasn’t good enough. I still have my PS2 and this game maybe I’ll go back and play it.
I had the chance to play it and was very enjoyable.
GT4 was my favorite, but Enthusia was a very good addition to the car racing catalog.
Interesting game, I will give a try
