    I spent $12 for a .pdf sunbonnet pattern. Opened it up in Windows reader. Taped pieces together, cut & sewed it - the fit was horrible! I thought it was a pattern flaw. Never thought it might be skewed by the .pdf reader program! Thanks for another informative video. I see your patterns are as user friendly as your video tuts. Excellent! I love this channel!

    Thank you Diane! I was trying to figure out how to resize a pattern to 120%, knowing that it wouldn't work on A4. Then I remembered that you had a video. As always, a clear overview that enabled me to find the correct chapter ❤❤❤

    Getting back into sewing again after years and remembered to download and test print a page with the square. Of course for the life of me couldn't register why printing at 100% never printed accurately in the multiple programs I tried first :') you are a LIFESAVER I never thought to try opening it in an editor so I used Affinity Designer, took some tweaking but now I'm set!

    Thanks Diane for explaining printing to the proper scale, I do however still have issues with exact sizing on US letter paper, so I took it one step further and purchased A4 paper and now print exactly as you have written. I have been printing using my MacBook instead of my iPad and this does make things much better! X

It's also very nice to know I don't need to worry about all that info filled away I can relax and know it's easy to access when needed. Let's face it the ol filing cabinet is rather packed full at this stage of the game. Hahaha Haha being OCD about remembering everything for everyone didn't help in the skeem of things 🤣😂

    Thank you so much for showing us how to increase and decrease patterns. It has really been helpful. The only thing I need to know now is, that once you resize, do you still use the original seam allowance as stated in the pattern?

    • @SpencerOgg
      @SpencerOgg  2 года назад

      You should really increase your seam allowance by the same % - so for example with a 20% increase you should take a 1.2cm SA rather than 1cm, but if you are just increasing by small percentages up to 20% it won't make a huge difference, but do amend if over 20%

    This is helpful but what if i want to make a bag wider in depth? I have a bag I like but its only 3 inches wide in depth. i like the height and the width, just not the depth!

    • @SpencerOgg
      @SpencerOgg  2 года назад

      Just make the box corner wider - so if you want it 4" wide rather than 3" just stitch the box corner so the length of the little seam across the corner is 4". If you want to keep the height, add half of that increase to both front and back pattern pieces, so in this case 1/2" on each.

    Question please: When REDUCING are the seam allowances effected? If I shrink a pattern with an included 3/8” seam allowance, won’t the smaller pattern hv a narrower seam and how do we figure that? Thank you.
    EDIT: I apologize if this has already been asked but I don’t see it in the comments. Thanks again.

    • @SpencerOgg
      @SpencerOgg  2 года назад +2

      Yes It will shrink the seam allowance by the same percentage too - but its an incredibly small amount if you are just adjusting the size by a small amount (10-20%) - 20% reduction in a 3/8" seam allowance is just 5/64" - probably less than any SA user error in the original size pattern, so no need to worry about it unless you are literally increasing or decreasing the size by a huge amount.

    Hello, I'd like to share a complex pdf diagram within a video, but realize that most video editors don't allow import of .pdf as a media file. I use PowerDirector. I have to sort out what do do with a pdf to make it acceptable for my video editor. Now the most important part, how to allow for zooming in to some small area of the pdf to see the detail there. That is, not loosing all the resolution. PDF as a vector based format keeps sharp regardless of zooming in. Any help is appreciated. Example would be a parts diagram of a bicycle, or IKEA piece of furniture. I'd like to show that, then want to zoom in to a particular small area, like the rear hub/sprocket of the bike, and somehow still have reasonable resolution as I explain how that part of the bicycle works. Many thanks for any thoughts.

    • @SpencerOgg
      @SpencerOgg  2 года назад

      As I mentioned - I'm not an expert, but I would convert your PDF to JPEG and then upload to your video editor where you will then be able to zoom in. Ensure it is a really high resolution so you dont lose too much clarity once zoomed in. Hope that helps

    • @SpencerOgg

      In theory you should change everything by the same percentage - so if a pocket placement is 2" down from the top and you are printing your pattern at 80%, calculate 80% of 2" for new placement

      Nothing on the pattern that would block you from doing it Sharon. It must be something to do with the settings of your paper/printer. Try with a different document to see what happens, and check the paper you have in the printer matches the paper size selected etc, if all else fails, update your print drivers and Adobe

      @@SpencerOgg thank you Diane. I’m going to check the print drivers. I know I have the latest updates for adobe acrobat, so I’m not sure why it at this point. I know it’s not your pattern because I did select other patterns that have worked in the past and they’re the same way. It has worked in the past, so it’s such a puzzle!

      UPDATE: SUCCESS!!! I was pleasantly surprised when it worked! I wanted you to know how I got it to change: my printer selection has two options which I didn’t realize existed. One is “HP ENVY 5530 series” and the other is that along with parentheses that includes numbers and letters. If I pick the former, the button appears! If I pick the latter, it is shaded and cannot be selected. I knew that I had used your instructions before and that they worked so this was actually a simple fix once I saw that. Thanks for your quick response and for all the awesome tutorials, patterns, and wonderful advice. You are amazing! ❤

    This was very helpful, thank you. The only real problem I'm having is with HP, because of course HP messed something up. I had to scale a cosplay prop by 111% because I am significantly taller than the character, but HP not only didn't scale, not only didn't keep the cut lines, but has gaps towards the edge of the pages so it didn't even print the full pattern. The fact I have to download an unrelated application just to scale is already really annoying, but then HP resets it on top of that? Ugh.

      Always best to just open any pattern in Adobe reader - its the standard for scaling things correctly and should normally come pre-installed on all devices :)

    Hi - How do you create the pdf to be the correct size to begin with?

    • @SpencerOgg
      @SpencerOgg  2 года назад

      It's drawn on a CAD (Computer aided design program) such as Adobe Illustrator at the specific size - is that what you meant Stephanie?

    Which printer do you use? Mine doesn’t have the poster option. I would like to get a new one - any suggestions please?

      Download Adobe as described in the video (link underneath) - its that rather than the printer xx

    is it possible to resize an A4 pdf digital print to an A2? I'm just wondering as I'm going to sell digital prints and will send different size pdfs. Will the customer be able to easily upscale the file?

    • @SpencerOgg
      @SpencerOgg  3 года назад

      Yes, just scale up - but they would need paper large enough to print it on and a large format printer
