Thank you so much for showing us how to increase and decrease patterns. It has really been helpful. The only thing I need to know now is, that once you resize, do you still use the original seam allowance as stated in the pattern?
You should really increase your seam allowance by the same % - so for example with a 20% increase you should take a 1.2cm SA rather than 1cm, but if you are just increasing by small percentages up to 20% it won't make a huge difference, but do amend if over 20%
This is helpful but what if i want to make a bag wider in depth? I have a bag I like but its only 3 inches wide in depth. i like the height and the width, just not the depth!
Just make the box corner wider - so if you want it 4" wide rather than 3" just stitch the box corner so the length of the little seam across the corner is 4". If you want to keep the height, add half of that increase to both front and back pattern pieces, so in this case 1/2" on each. Thank you this is very helpful. I want to increase my bag size and have a gusset that joins the front to the back like a backpack. Will the gusset be the correct size? If not how would I measure the rounded corners to be sure the gusset is correct?? Thank you.
If you print everything (including your gusset) at your new larger chosen size it will all still fit together in the same relationship as it did in the original size :)
I've been looking for patterns to make plushies woth because I always wanted to try my hand at it, but I wanted a bigger sized plushie pattern which seems to be non-existent. I will try this method when I do find one I like! I just hope it also works with plushies in general.
Diane, I'm getting your Beanie Baggett pattern but I'd like to know where to buy the beautiful black textured fabric you share on youtube. I also clicked on the link where to buy some of the colorful fabric but they are available.
Question please: When REDUCING are the seam allowances effected? If I shrink a pattern with an included 3/8” seam allowance, won’t the smaller pattern hv a narrower seam and how do we figure that? Thank you. EDIT: I apologize if this has already been asked but I don’t see it in the comments. Thanks again.
Yes It will shrink the seam allowance by the same percentage too - but its an incredibly small amount if you are just adjusting the size by a small amount (10-20%) - 20% reduction in a 3/8" seam allowance is just 5/64" - probably less than any SA user error in the original size pattern, so no need to worry about it unless you are literally increasing or decreasing the size by a huge amount.

Hello, I'd like to share a complex pdf diagram within a video, but realize that most video editors don't allow import of .pdf as a media file. I use PowerDirector. I have to sort out what do do with a pdf to make it acceptable for my video editor. Now the most important part, how to allow for zooming in to some small area of the pdf to see the detail there. Nothing on the pattern that would block you from doing it Sharon. It must be something to do with the settings of your paper/printer. Try with a different document to see what happens, and check the paper you have in the printer matches the paper size selected etc, if all else fails, update your print drivers and Adobe
@@SpencerOgg thank you Diane. I’m going to check the print drivers. I know I have the latest updates for adobe acrobat, so I’m not sure why it at this point.
