    I suffer from social anxiety and have used avoidance all my life as a coping mechanism. Over time what I have been doing is build my own prison, brick by brick.

    This definitely helped. I did get fear of exercise knowing I was experiencing heart palpitations but the fact that I got through the exercise helps me understand I am okay . When ever I’m having the palpitations even without exercise .

    What would you suggest for a fear of flying? I can't go to the airport every day or they'll get suspicious!

      Virtual Reality Exposure Therapy uses virtual reality to mimic real life situations that cause anxiety in order to facilitate exposure to situations that aren't easy or possible to expose ourselves in real life. There are therapists who offer VRET where I live, and VRET for fear of flying has been around for at least 20 years.
      If you don't have access to VRET then you can you use imaginal exposure to picture yourself in the anxiety provoking situations as vividly as possible. You could also watch RUclips videos of planes taking off and landing, travel Vlogs of people recording their experiences going through airports and on airplanes etc.
      Also many airports and airlines offer fear of flying courses that include an actual short flight at the end. And there are fear of flying courses that include time in a flight simulator to experience what it's like in the cockpit and how everything works during a flight.

      @@SelfHelpToons you are so right! Exposure naturally can come. Due to huge trauma; I couldn’t walk or warm weather. Over time; I started running errands; going for walks; within a year I was able to walk in warm weather.
      What about fear of surgery and general anesthesia? I know watching videos would make it worse. Especially for the day of; and the moment before gas mask is on and you count back. Those few seconds of knowing you’ll be out in one second. I feel ill freeze. I’m going through what it will be like ( all day long right unfortunately) and it’s so intrusive as I don’t even have a surgery date yet. I’m not enjoying my days now due to this fear.
      I thought I could think about things that make me happy but with high anxiety and abnormal fear; my mind / anxiety is much stronger.
