Too many people think if you're only using your own weight then you won't create muscle mass...They forget it's the fatigue you put on your muscles that create muscle mass..Doesn't matter how you fatigue them as long as you do.. You don't need a gym or any equipment...If you want to fatigue them when it gets easier, then do more reps, or do the same number but much slower.
the thing is that the pain and burn you must endure for pushups vs gymweights is miles ahead. even the most swole guys cannot compete with a dedicate pushup only focused person. and its not because their ''muscles'' arent used to it, its because their brains cannot accept the pain. going for 5 reps on extreme pain is A LOT easier and gives the same results as going for 5.000 reps on zero pain. because the pain starts to build up and becomes impossible to handle. try going slowly and REALLY work out to failure...if you do, its the same thing. time under pressure will get you swollen, doing 25reps and calling it a day wont...go 5 5 5 5 5 5 5 5 5 5 5 5 5 5 wide and then the same narrow, and then the same diamond, and then the same with elevetaed feet. everyone can do it. but when you try it....you understand how hard it becomes...
Base on experience yes just your own bodyweight can build enough mass especially if you do your reps in time under tension. Doing more reps doesn't always mean alot but with the proper muscle mind connection with tut can be beneficial
I can 500 push ups in 20 minutes . 1000 push ups in 55 minutes. I have learned that doing slow push ups help u in gaining size while doing fast push ups helps with endurance as u will do more reps.

Ppl need to know you can break it down... start with 5 pushups 20x over a day, then increase to say 10x10 and then to 5x20 (even go 5 warm up-10-5 on the back side). Give a day or 2 between for rest (listen to your body). Over time you will build muscle and stamina. Mix it up occasionally by using a playground for circuit training.

For those looking to build strength. You have to challenge how much force your muscles can apply. Doing large volumes of push ups will improve muscle endurance. But it won't greatly improve strength. I.E in terms of strength. 1 standard push up with just your body weight is the same as 100 standard push ups with just your body weight. But 1 one arm push up. Is making that arm apply way more force. Than 100 standard push ups. You don't have to do one arms right away. You can do archer push ups. Do push ups were you come down slow and push up as fast as you can. As long as you're pushing your muscles to apply more force than normal. That's how you build strength

I don’t really get the point of going THAT far. Like why don’t you just add a backpack with weights and do around 100-200 push-ups rather than doing 500? It saves a lot of time and you still get similar results
I came up with a knew plan instead of doing 100 push ups in a row because most of can't if you do 5 push ups at a time then stop and rest and do it again for 30 times you get way better results if you do your push ups slow when going up and then slow when going back down and then you do sit ups 5 times for 30 some people do crunches instead of situps but i like situps and you do that every day but on mondays and wensdays you do 5 squats 30 times and you will build a great body

Just do what you do for now for your set amount of time, and if youre confident enough for your strength, do harder routines or best bet, go to the gym :)

I do 16 sets of 25 reps with 1:30 seconds rest in between. Feet elevated in a chair wide arm only ,Monday,Wednesday and Friday.
