Beautiful bag, one thing though, their web site needs are some product shots with people wearing the bags to give an idea of scale. I think that would be a great job for Jules, Greg and Max, and also a good segment.
I like seeing great quality in a bag, regardless of price, it is indeed an art to work with leather. I tend to switch off between my Domke F2 and a Buffalo Jackson Roosevelt. So much depends on the weather and needs of the day. I like the enclosure locks on this bag better than anything I've used or seen. Thanks, Max.
Thanks for your kind comment, Scott. Glad to hear you like the enclosure locks and can appreciate the material of a good bag. Your combination sounds great, too!
Good review. Maybe this was covered in other comments, but the bag just went through a slight redesign with the front straps in early 2022.. That may be worth noting.
Thank you for your comment and please excuse my late response. No, I think you are not misremembering but Oberwerth might have renamed one of their bags to Harry & Sally. This Oberwerth Freiburg is a more classical and robust bag, the leather is not as slouchy and soft as with the Harry & Sally. It also feels a bit heavier and sturdier as a result. The internal compartments are all structured the same way for Oberwerth bags, so how much you can fit in typically comes down to the overall size of the bag. I hope this helps.
Super nice and premium. But, with a similar Billinghham bag costing 250 to 280 US Dollars, personally there is no way I would pay 500 Euros for this bag.
Same, these ober bags looks nice, but they have outpriced them. You get billingham for half the price. Maybe 10-20% more expensive than billingham would be fine, but 50% is just too much.
Thanks for your comment, Joel. Unfortunately, my bag for the RZ67 is more of a compromise right now. I have a Lowepro Toploader 70 AW II where only the RZ body with lens fits in. So I need to carry an additional bag for the other viewfinder and my additional lens. :/
Hello, CouldI ask you something ? What is your opinion about leica M-A Black Chrome and Silver Chrome ? I just can’t decide which colour : ( I am so thank you for youe answer
Thanks for your comment. Of course. That's a tricky question. Personally, I would prefer the Silver Chrome version, in part because of the nice inscription on the top place. But I can also understand people who prefer the all-black version. The M-A is one of my dream cameras. Go for it! :)
Please excuse my late response. I can't really say as I didn't test the all-leather versions. I was more drawn towards the mixture of leather and Cordura. All I can point to is the weight difference.
It's a rather large bag, I find the Harry & Sally with the Leica M10 works better. Both are terrific bags! Because of the softness, no break in period needed.
Dear patsycollin, I also want to order a William, but I am confused as far as its leather quality. When compared with an Oberwerth Munchen 100% leather (which has similar dimensions), the William is less costly. It seems that the William uses full grain leather while the Munchen doesn't. I suppose full grain leather should cost more but this isn't the case for Oberwerth. I should be very grateful if you could kindly shed some light on this. Thank you.
Keep up some leather conditioner or wax on the leather of the bag and it'll last for years. 40-50 years down the track and you'll still have the bag :)
Haha, that's a good one. For me, it's a bag that can and shall be used like any other camera bag. I don't mind if it gets some wear and tear over time. :)
Well, it is a high-quality bag after all. My personal credo is that if I can invest in a Leica M camera and lenses, I might as well invest in a proper bag that will accompany me and protect my gear for a decade or longer.
I really like the videos on this channel, but I have a quibble with this one. For me, this bag and it's obscene price tag is in a nutshell all that's wrong with the renaissance of film photography. I really hope this is not where analog photography is going, a plaything of the designer bag mindset. Buy film, buy cameras, make beautiful photographs... Save your money, the bag won't help.
Oliver Resag Thanks for your comment. I can see your point and agree that film photography shouldn’t be a “designer bag hype”-like experience. For me, this was certainly not the point of this video. As mentioned in the video, the bag is well-suited for analog cameras but not specifically made or marketed for them by Oberwerth. I created this connection here. Furthermore, the Oberwerth bags are high quality and hand-made by people in a currently dying occupation and arguably therefore naturally come with higher production quality and prices.
A $1,000 plus bag what! You always produce high-quality videos but to review a bag which is out of reach for most viewers, is it to make everyone wanting one? Even If I can afford it I won't buy one. I haven't been watching your videos for some time, maybe because I have been shooting with my Sony A7RII camera. I will watch more of your videos more often in future. Cheers.
tean tan Thanks for your comment. The bag actually costs 499 Euro which translates into about 600 US dollars. So the bag’s price is not even near the assessed 1000 Dollars you mentioned. I personally strongly believe in protecting my valuable gear as good as possible and appreciate fashionable bags. Therefore I can highly recommend the bag despite its slightly higher price. I’m certainly not doing this to make people want something they cannot afford. My personal credo is that if I can invest in a Leica M camera and lenses, I might as well invest in a proper bag that will accompany me and protect my gear for a decade or longer.
Try the US at Ebay, over $1,000, www.ebay.com.au/itm/Oberwerth-Shoulder-bag-Freiburg-black-dark-brown/182829945248?hash=item2a918391a0:g:HDQAAOSwFiJZ4aga If one can afford it, by all means, it's not me though.

matt jones Haha. That’s a great suggestion. ;)
On you it is exquisite, on me I'd have a difficult time convincing police I didn't rob some wealthy passers-by.

Excellent looking bag. This Freiborg is a perfect size for walk around exploring. 👍🏆
Nice bag. How does this bag compare mit Harry & Sally? I thought you mentioned this bag before but perhaps I’m misremembering.

Just used your code and still works :-) thanks

Hi Max love your videos!. What bag do you use for your RZ67?

Could this bag fit a larger mirror less camera like Nikon p950?
Very nice bag and I enjoyed your review very much. But - an old rucksack is perhaps less likely to attract attention, and perhaps safer?
Thanks for your comment. An old rucksack won't do the trick for me in protecting valuable cameras and lenses against shocks and the weather. Sorry. :)
What are the pros and cons of the all-leather in black or brown version? Thanks
Please excuse my late response. I can't really say as I didn't test the all-leather versions. I was more drawn towards the mixture of leather and Cordura. All I can point to is the weight difference.
No worries. I ended up ordering the casual line William & harry and Sally in Brown
How do you like the William?

I do have one it's a nice camera bag
I like that special buckle
Keep up some leather conditioner or wax on the leather of the bag and it'll last for years. 40-50 years down the track and you'll still have the bag :)
I'll rather buy a Billingham, which is half the price and a bit bigger...yeah, maybe everyone has one but that's not an issue for me.
Billinghams are nice but too boxy. I'd go with this or an ONA Prince Street.

Thanks for your comment. Yes, there will be a video on scanning film at some point. :)
That bag costs way too much to set down on the ground or some bench outside..
Haha, that's a good one. For me, it's a bag that can and shall be used like any other camera bag. I don't mind if it gets some wear and tear over time. :)
It's pricier than Prada and Louis Vuitton.
Just not true, get your facts right
It's nice but my Billingham is better.....
That price thoughhhh

Meine Güte, 500€ für eine Tasche
€599,- no thank you.
It's actually €499,- for the version featured here. As mentioned, we have a 10% discount code as well.

It would be too tempting for a druggie to snatch and run!!
