Just built one using your design. ion lithium batteries, built-in charger, gas lift assist on lid, all soldered joints, color coded heat shrink. Only the 4 holes mounting the gimble bracket, no other holes in the box. Used velcro and short screws mounting the black box, also only 2 swiches mounted inside, 1 main power, one for GL-10 black box. Used gimble mount knob from my Lowrance unit (from where I put DS E-Locks on) on transducer to mount to perspective mount. Thanks for video! Have pics on my FB of the box, came out looking good, nice an clean, even removed stickers and Magellan emblem. Replaced with vinyl pic of crappie an some lettering.
That is *SWEET* and definitely a doable project. One thing you may want to consider adding is a solar way to charge, which is what I'll be adding when I make mine.

Does the Garmin 93 SUV unit provide sonar, down imaging, side imaging and panoptics. If so, does one transducer do all screens or does it require 2 transducers? Thank you
I got some 7" struts that seem to put a lot of force on the cooler lid hinge when you come to close it. How are your cooler hinges holding up? I am thinking about switching it up to friction hinges.
Although we have since hard mounted this on our new boat, our hinges did have a lot of stress on them. Thin plastic and 12lb struts wasn’t the best idea lol. Great concept though.
I love it! I'm using your idea to construct a version with a GPSMAP 8610 and an Amped 30ah battery. I teach people how to use various types of sonar, and this will enable me to teach on the students' boats (or in a classroom setting) without crazy gyrations to re-install equipment. The 8610 allows me to record sessions for later use, or connect via HDMI to an external monitor. Thanks a ton for the terrific idea, and another excellent video. Cheers, Capt. John, SonarAngler
So after 3 years of using it.. what would you do differently?? I am buying live scope next weekend and trying to figure out do I buy a shuttle or build one like this!!! any advice would be appreciated
Man I just bought the 94sv online, I didn’t know about the inland coastal offshore fishing. Bought of cabelas during Labor Day sale and I think I will have to return it.
@@g4outdoors yes, you did mentioned it on the video. But did you buy from Garmin themselves or a different store? I chat with someone from Bass Pro Shops after I saw your video and they said I could go in person and return it.
Google “amped outdoors”. They have a full lineup of batteries. I haven’t had the best of luck with Dakota Lithium. Anyway. Amped 18 amp/hr. Their chart shows it capable of running a 9” livescope for 10hrs I think. We went out and used it one day, forgot to put it on the charger, and it still carried us through the next day.
So your using 1 Amped battery for the black box and the Garmin unit? I’m in the process of ordering 2 Amped 12ah lithium’s and chargers. Wondering if they will fit in the Magellan box along with the black box? Also, wondering if one will power everything for about 8 hours. Basically what battery do I need and how many?
Just so you know, we had a Amped 18 amp hr and a Dakota Lithium 10 amp hr in the box with plenty of room left over. Do yourself a favor and put some heavy duty velcro from lowes or some place like that (12lb Velcro). When I tried to take my batteries out to hard mount this to my new boat, I had to take a screw driver to pry the batteries off the velcro. Wicked sticky stuff!! I think you could get away with velcroing the black box down as well for a cleaner setup. try it, if you don't like it, screw'er down. Good luck!!
G4 Outdoors thanks for the info. Soooo the 18 is the way to go then. Good info. Still not decided if I wanna “hard mount” or portable. Leaning towards hard mount right now but I do not want the extra weight of an additional battery. If the 18 works all day it’s a win win for me I guess. Will make running wires much easier too if I mount it all up front.
Great build! I’m in the middle of a similar build myself thanks to you! Quick question, what size wire did you use to wire it up? My panel came with 16 gauge. Will that do? Not trying to catch my new unit on fire! 😆
On your portable Livescope box using the Magellan bait box from Academy, do you have the same problem as me? My struts i used push the lid so hard that the hinges pop out on the back of the lid. It used to hold fine but after about a year the hinges come off the socket and the lid falls off the box.
Did a great job guys. I see you've ran into some hurdles during the build just like I did on mine. Love that box though. One tid-bit of information to think about is the heat that the black box creates. I noticed on mine that the black box gets pretty warm, so keep an eye on that. Those little critters are expensive to replace. LOL

If we find that the black box gets too hot, we do have room and plans for a computer fan to be able to be installed. I promise we will meet up soon!
We bought a new boat and hard mounted it very shortly after this video. The only thing that would have been an issue is the struts would have needed to be attached to the box more securely.
@@radone3922 yes and no. It was extremely handy for what we were doing, but the footprint was taking up way too much room on the floor of the boat. We had it on a dock and it was the same. I would've loved to see a snug piece of plywood at the bottom where you'd fix the black box and battery onto, instead of putting holes through the bottom of the dry box. Not a big deal, but it's just one of those "the easier it is to bring back to factory looks, the better" for me. In that spirit, I personally wouldn't put a switch panel, just a battery isolator inside the box and I wouldn't pass the black box connector through the box, I'd leave it alone. You can't use the sonar if the lid isn't open anyway, so its much better in my opinion to grab the transducer's cable, plug it in inside the box, instead of having to deal with moving the entire box around to plug it in and whatnot. Great setup though
