Want to take this opportunity to thank you for your channel. I live on a pretty tight budget, and your videos have made it possible for me to purchase reels used and sometimes even broken, super cheaply with confidence I can repair them. I would never have been able to own many of the dream reels I have without you! These videos have definitely made my life happier and I hope you know you are doing that for your viewers every day. God bless you and your family over the season and into 2025.
Dennis, I would ditto everything Bob said in his comment. You know how many reels I have. Without you I would have probably half as many. You really can’t put a monetary amount on what you have done for all of us! - Chris
I can’t wait to see this reel and how it is made. I love the vintage Daiwa BGs as you know. I have seven now. I have had a lot of friuble with the rotor nut anchor piece. I had to make one for a BG90. I sent you a photo I think. I certainly don’t like that pentagon spring clip. It would be difficult for me o see. I like those glide posts for the oscillation block and axle shaft. Oh! It does have an override for the AR. I like this reel a lot more now. You did a superb job figuring out that bearing problem. It would be a difficult reel for me to service because of my visual limitations. I may not have told you that I can no longer see with my right eye. I have some peripheral vision but not enough and the clarity is very poor now. It’s okay as I can still use my left eye even though it has limited center vision too. I’m sorry the gears are damaged on this BG. Are there no parts available anywhere? It is such a shame. I like this reel (if fully functional) but I think I;ll stick with my vintage Daiwa Black Gold reels. Their rosewood handles a certainly very nice! Merry Christmas Dennis. Your channel is one of the best gifts I get throughout the entire year not to mention your much appreciated e-mails and encouragement. Happy New Year my friend!!! - Chris
Good job of getting this Reel working . You might be able to file the gears to make it run a little better if you can't find a Donor Reel other than that I'd say fish with it as long ad it will last .
Those gears are no longer available? Yet these reels are still for sale on all the major sites. Does that mean that if you buy one of these reels brand new, there's no replacement parts available to fix it?
dennis those gears imo are not done for you need a polishing wheel on a dremel and some compound and time the fact that it spins at all and doesent completely bind up tells me its 100% not done for i garuente those gears are fishable it just takes time to do but that reel aint done yet sir i can tell the gears arent that badly damaged just enough to cause roughness i can just tell it just needs a good surface polish its just got rough edges
ive looked into it i see the rough spot at 12:55 or so the crosswind gear has a deformed spot on a tooth all you need to do is file/polish the top edges of the gear where the tooth is damaged the tooth just has a bur on it i think i still see the tooth dennis that reel is not done!! she still has a chance dennis but i digress have yourself a merry christmas sir
I will take it apart today and recheck. It is hard for me to see if it is a burr or grease. I will take your advice and look again - Thank you - Dennis
Well - the defect on the oscillation gear appears to have been grease, but when I took the reel apart again to check on your thoughts, I found a single ball bearing about the size of a poppy seed, from the exploded unit. It seems to have been bouncing around inside and went un-noticed when I did the cleaning. That piece scarred the gears, but when I removed it, the skip was eliminated. It's just noise now. Thanks for encouraging me to try again - Dennis
That is an oscillation issue. You either have a problem with one of 3 components in that system, Check the back of the main gear to see if teeth are damaged or missing. Same with he oscillation gear - that may be missing teeth and is the most likely cause and finally, check the crosswind block to see if that is damaged. Whichever part or parts are damaged, they will need to be replaced tofu your issue - Dennis

You're not alone in that.

I think this reel is best as a parts reel and giving others a 2nd Chance - Have a Merry Christmas Bobby
Nice looking reel.
I know, but it's broken :(. Thanks Jeff
@ yeah i know. Still a nice looking reel. You’re welcome Dennis

No - the models change and the components differ as well. New reels have parts support for approximately 5 years by Daiwa
What a shame! A nice reel. How old do you think it is? Anyway good video and thanks. I wasn't expecting you to do one today! ////bill
Thanks Bill. I won't be publishing one tomorrow - Have a Merry Christmas - Dennis
