We're building infrastructure to accomodate future growth such as barns, duck house, 7 coop chicken house, water hydrants, planting an orchard, building a garden etc. Chickens, ducks, geese, rabbits, barn cats and two old english sheepdogs make up our team here at the farm. Please follow along on our journey of transforming this place into something special.

The snow is so pretty. It doesn't snow here anymore, I sure do miss it. The weather here is in the 70's. The animals are awesome. ❤😊

All cats walked out happily with their tails up high! Tango is such a naughty one playing up when it's time to go in! It made my afternoon to watch Chad and his farm life indeed...

Try whole grain bread to feed the piglets. Put on a mat so it doesn’t disappear into the straw. Get a low beach chair - start sitting near the wall and move a little closer each time you feed.

If ya clear the snow off a few patches of ground, the animals will peck and graze on it, try to. They prefer natural to packet stuff.
Good morning Chad, if you can, cut a pair of socks down the front to about 6" from the toe and slide your boot into the sock. Cut off excess sock on sides or split down the back & tie it in the front. Looks funny but it keeps me from slipping!

Adri uses a pan so her piglets don’t submerge their full face in it.
She gives baby rice cereal with iron that is easy on digestion.
I’m thinking rice is good for their tummies. Where she says you don’t want them to get diarrhea and lose vitamins and minerals in calories, and essentially die from it. But bananas squished up sound good to. ❤🎉❤🎉❤🎉😅
Love how the cats come out with their tails in the happy upright position. They look fluffy & plump. I know just like mine they will slim down. 😊
I have seen people feed marshmallows to older feeder pigs. But you might experiment with healthy items. Even something like Cheerios cereal. There might even be pig treats at the store.

I was wondering: would it benefit you to have your chicken coop access doors be two-tiered?
Where the top half can open separately from the bottom half?
So the chickens don’t just walk out when you open it, if you just want to offer them a treat like in this video?
Seems you have the seasoned chickens used to not running out but I’m sure younger birds might try this.

Oh yeah, the only difference in winter is that they don’t go far and it’s easier to get them back in…during summer when it gets dark later I gotta give them time to come back.
I know nothing about chickens but the only thing I can think is maybe if you move them to one of the other sections? Don't know if it would help but just an idea....

Try putting the nesting box 1 foot off the floor and see what happens. Mine lay eggs in all their boxes that are 1ft off floor. Must be below any roost height and you know that 😊
I could do that but I’d really rather they lay in the boxes that I built into the coop. I’d have to build something temporary for them. I can raise the roosts easy enough though. The other breeds do use the nesting boxes too and they’re all the same height. Trial and error with this new flock.

Have many of my seeds for spring planting. I look them over when I need a reminder of gardening time. In the winter I settle for indoor plants and my aero garden!
My Darlin will buy veggies like green peppers and when she’s cooking them removes the seeds and dries them on some newspaper so our table had a bunch of pepper seeds and tomato seeds right now.
Give the little piggies wholesome snacks not junk food
They get wholesome mothers milk & nibble on whatever mama gets. I’m looking for a way to socialize them more so I need to entice em 😉
I use 2 crates and then I have a larger wood box 12 x 14 in the corner. They use the box mostly some times I get 2 or 3 eggs in the crates but they like the box, open on top, mostly. I have plans to make larger boxes for them also, the 12 x 14 size.
Also I use a round basket about 16" wide at the top. Its rubber from the feed store. the handle ripped off one side so I put that in the ER / penitentiary coop lol ( the coop I use to separate birds ) I put rocks in the bottom and straw or wood chips on top. They love it even the beat up roosters sit in it to sleep lol

My French cuckoo Maran's prefer to lay on the floor of the coop as apposed to the nest boxes also. The Dominique's will also lay there also. They have plenty of space in the nest boxes, and will stand there squawking at the hen already laying an egg.
Haha yes I’ve seen that too with our hens, it’s like they gotta lay real bad but the first hen is taking too long 😂

Hi Chad! Fingernails and food are the secret 😂 If you can give your piglets scritchies they will adore you. You already provide food so if you can itch the scratch, you will be their king.
I bought in the toy section a child's rake... I use it on my one pig... She will let me scratch all day

@@HiddenSpringFarm my cat wants to play with them,She was a stray cat ,I couldn’t even touch her for a long time,now she’s sleeping in my porch which is like a living room, that’s where my 3 of my bunnies live free roaming and 2 in my house mostly living room and kitchen area,they bring me such joy,2 cats live in front of my house,they have a house I bought from Amazon

Try giving the piglets cucumber, grapes and banana’s or dark green lettuce ( romaine ). they are adorable…. They are old enough to eat solids.
Pigs will eat ANYTHING. There really isn’t much of anything that you could give them that would hurt them…. But they LOVE sweet things… who doesn’t? lol…. Fruit would be good…
Yeah I’ll most likely try some treats to get them to come to me.
@@HiddenSpringFarm just sit in there and toss pieces of fruit and the like at them, gradually bringing it closer to you… sit your hand on the ground with he treats in it and let them come to you… eventually you’ll be able to touch them…. Piglets are just skittish little things…

So I looked up what mini pigs are allowed to eat. It is not marshmallows or peanut butter. You’ll makes them sick.
This is what the Vets of Animals Hospital of USA say:
Celery, cucumbers, peppers, zucchini, carrots, squash and lefty greens.
No canned vegetables too high in salt.
Fruit such as apples, grapes & pears can be fed but in moderation due to high content of sugar.

My farm cats when i was a little girl would kill rabbits and leave them down at the house. Thats really good that chunk can hang out with the rabbits and be a good kitty. Lol
We always protect any babies but the most I’ve seen the cats do is smack them in the butts. Then again they are 10lb rabbits so almost as much as the cats 😆
I say ask google about the piglets,that how I look up any food for animals

Hi I’m living in London Ontario and I’m wondering if I could come by to visit ur niece farm
perhaps popcorn be a fun treat for the piggys. I have no real idea what makes a good training treat for pigs. if they are starting to nibble on moms kibble I would think treats of solid food would be ok as long as you dont over do it with them.
Yeah I think in a few more weeks they’ll be eating more and more of mamas food.

Trouble is our barn is not escape proof from the roof soffits cats get out. I used to lock them in the barn but they get out. It’s probably over 100 feet also . Cool idea though 😉

The lord made pigs that way so they eat things to clean the environment so it's safe to consume other food..Just my personal belief. 👍😉

I am sure you get tired of our opinions. You have build a nice chi man coop and duck and goose pens. I know you are working on the cats. I am sad to say the pigs living space is awful. Its like they aren't worthy of better quarters. Next is please store your feed so that it isn't a free for all for rats. Rats carry disease and if the snakes come they will eat all your eggs. We have a smaller farm only 40 acres and it takes both of us and we hire high school students who want extra money to do some easy stuff but frees our time. Good luck!
All the pigs feed is in steel trash cans so no pests can get in there. Not sure what u mean about the pig pens though, what else would one do in a snowy climate like this? Snakes are not a big concern here in Ontario, definitely not in winter. So far this is the first time we’ve had an issue with rats in the barn and I’ve caught a lot of them already so the traps are working.
What is your purpose for not letting the cats out at night so they can hunt when rodents are most active?
Avoid eaten cats
Other predators is why.
