Love watching your videos! Refreshing to see a real video and real dialogue! Plus enjoy seeing you and your darling interact with Olive, barn cats, pigs, turkeys, hens and geese. Keep making videos!
Absolutely beautiful sharing adventure documentary countryside content video and a very interesting video to watch .. gorgeous filming edition captured footage and the filming edition captured camera work looks super awesome super sharp and clear .. thanks again
This makes me really curious about what ducks do on my wife's uncle's farm here in Vietnam. He has like 100 of them, so I'll have to ask him what they do.
My daily dose of north country horseshoe valley farm life education! Love your little menagerie of friendly feathers and fur. As I said, if I ever get up there a Timmy’s coffee and a couple of donuts are my treat. You deserve it.
I love your videos and my 5 year old daughter too we are leaving our apartment we are moving to a house in the north of Spain but I will start growing chikens first. Congrats for your channel big hug from Spain
Great video Chad! Geese and ducks are so similar. We didn’t know about the aortic valve piping straight to their feet. We of course just have geese (4 varieties) but learn a lot about their care from your channel. Do you have a specific ration of the bakers yeast to feed? We have to admit your make the ducks look like a lot of fun!
Watched your video on your Khaki ducks. Bought two last spring. Lucky I got two females. My cousin wanted to get rid of a male. I took him in before the girls came. He was is so funny. They are entertainment. I call them the "G" family. George, Geraldine and Genevieve. Thanks for the tip about brewer's yeast. I run them together with my chickens so they get the layers feed and I mix wild bird seed and whole corn in the feed. Just love them.
When you talked about how the ducks keep the insects under control in the orchard, what came to my mind was the insects hearing the sound of their impending doom as the ducks started to bear down on the bugs' positions. I couldn't stop laughing, and explaining why I was laughing to my wife was hard because it's such an odd thing to picture. Thanks for the big laugh! Greetings from Vietnam :)
They would love a pond, but they don’t need one. It’d be frozen over from about mid November until April anyway. It may be a project for this summer but we’ll have to see.
Love my Ducks too Chad. I think the noisy ones however are the Ducks and not the Drakes. My Drakes make very little sound compared to the girls but one problem this winter had been wet feather on two Saxony Drakes. really hard to shake.
@@SydneyRoylance-l2y it doesn’t bother them whatsoever. It doesn’t even get hot it’s just warm enough that the water can’t freeze. I used for the geese too but the geese chewed the wire so I had to re-wrap the wire. It’s been a few years using them now and I like them, it’s a great hack. They’ve gotten expensive now though cheapest I found is $60 CAD.
A good feed will have niacin and yeast added. The feed I use has 5 different yeast and niacin. Occasionally I get some romaine for the geese during the winter. 19 goose eggs from 2 girl geese so far.
Wow our geese haven’t started yet, still too wintery I guess. Here in our area there are only two places to get feed…PeaveyMart and a local co-op and they both carry the same 3 different types of feeds. Canada is limited unlike in the US and other countries that have so many people therefore more options. Most feed have generally the same ingredients though don’t they? What brand do u use?
@@HiddenSpringFarm Usually Earth First starter and layer with some kelp and herbs added and always egg shells fed back to them. Got a bunch of Scratch and Peck organic on discount as well recently. Organic cracked corn always for both geese and chickens.
I asked you this before, what is that word you keep using to call the geese and ducks up for the evening? I find it an interesting word and find it amazing that they seem to know what it means.
“Tulugan Na” means “go to bed” in Tagalog (Filipino) I’ve been saying it for 3 years so I hope they’ll listen without Olive helping me. Ducks are very easy to herd anyway, all I do is walk and they run away in whatever direction I’m not.
I like your ducks, and ducks in general are fun . have you given your ducks peas yet? I hear they go crazy for thawed out frozen peas. muscovy ducks are a tropical breed that can't handle cold as well as others, they are the exception to the rule as they can actually freeze their feet. Ducks are fun ,very fun but messy, very messy haha.
Yes they do enjoy peas. Muscovies are tropical but my understanding is that they do very well in the cold also, they are a very popular homestead duck up here in Canada. They definitely need a place to get nasty.
I'm in Manitoba, a bit colder then you and yes they are hardy but they are the least hardy of all ducks as they can freeze their feet and around their head.@@HiddenSpringFarm
Silly question. Do they take bath in the winter, if yes how do you keep their pool/bath water from frozen solid, do you use de-icer also? I dont see it in your video. Or do you change their bath water everyday but that is too much work. Thank you
It’ll be in the video, but thru the winter I use small rubber bowls with an electric heater puck and it works great. Keeps the water unfrozen and I just dump out the water and fill it up everyday.
Yes I actually researched how to build a few as we do have bats here. A single bat can eat up to 600 insects in one night so they’re incredible insect control. I’ll get to it eventually.
Haha "Tulugan Na" basically means "go to bed" in Tagalog (Filipino) Ducks are easy to herd back to the house but one day if I have a pond and need to get the ducks back to the house I'm hoping I can shout that phrase and they'll be trained by then. I thought it'd be funny since my Darlin is a Filipina.

Happily watching ducks 🦆🦆 from England ❤❤❤
Right on 👍
I love how excited the ducks get when they see fresh water being poured.🙂
Oh yeah they only swim in the fresh stuff 😆

Thank you for explaining the job the ducks do on the farm. I always wondered. Hi to the kitties!
You bet!
This makes me really curious about what ducks do on my wife's uncle's farm here in Vietnam. He has like 100 of them, so I'll have to ask him what they do.
The ducks are happy just doing their thing ❤🥰I enjoy watching them 🤗
Yeah I can tell they’re like me and can’t wait till spring 😆

Aww thnx, water fowl are pretty incredible eh. I don’t measure the stuff I just put a jar mixed in the feeder 😊
Lovely ducks, wish it was spring 🥰
I think all our animals wish it was spring, including me 😜
Morning Chad. I love watching your ducks waddle. I feel like those drakes complaining about winter. When is spring???? Quaaaaack, quack quack!!!!!!!

It’s great, I only fill it up every month or so.

Maybe this summer
We keep our ducks on the garden bed all winter to fertilize 😂 ever have one with a broken leg? Out pour baby. Also two sheepdogs here too! ❤
Never had one with a broken leg, it would have to be set and braced somehow I guess. That’s not easy.
Great informative video. Thanks for sharing your knowledge on raising ducks and geese on the farm. 😄👍
Our pleasure!

You may be right. I’ve noticed our white ducks seem to always look damp, I’ll bet it’s affecting some of them here too.
Only Females quack. Males make a low murmur noise.
Interesting!
Awesome information! I wonder if there’s any trouble with their feet being on the water heat pucks?

Is your orchard fenced or how do you get your ducks bad into their coop?

canned peas have worked for baby geese

Name one of your chickens Jerry Lee , after the singer Jerry Lee Lewis.😊

The ducks sure are tense, nervous nellies or fraidy cats as we say in Wisconsin. 😅
Yup, even though I hatched them, raised them, handled them they still keep their distance.
How do you keep them from flying away? Sorry if someone else already asked.
Unlike wild ducks, They can only get a few feet off the ground.
Where do you get your Brewers Yeast?

Have you ever thought of putting up a bat house?
Yes I actually researched how to build a few as we do have bats here. A single bat can eat up to 600 insects in one night so they’re incredible insect control. I’ll get to it eventually.
What is the phrase (not English) that you say to the ducks when you're ushering them back to the duck house?
