Sandy thank you so much for sharing this watercoloring video! I too find the painting so relaxing and inspiring! I just had to come by and give a comment, which when watching it on my TV I can't. I watched this first on tv and now I'm online to say hi! :)- I'm sure there's lots of others who do the same, but I really wanted to put in my kudos to you for all the lovely videos you give to us!!! Hope you have a great day!!! :)

I don't know why but it's mesmerizing and satisfying watching you paint. Must be the bright colors you use and the speed of your brush strokes and staying within the line. Go figure.

It seems all teachers recommend bigger brushes whenever possible. Took me a long time to accept that, and it does work! Cute, adorable foxes and perfectly colored! TFS

It's so nice to see the color palette and how the color looks when you're mixing it etc. Thank you.

Do you dry with a heat gun in between or let air dry. Thanks

Thank you so much Sandy. I always love your videos. I have a couple of questions though. You don't tape down your paper- how does it not curl? Mine always seem to buckle. And I know Daniel Smith colours are the bees knees, but I am in Australia and they are out of my budget, so what brand would you recommend for the budget conscious. Thanks again for taking the time to make this video. I hope you are enjoying New York, I am enjoying it vicariously through your instagram stories.😘

Sometimes I tape. Sometimes not. I don’t heat dry unless absolutely necessary, that’s usually what causes buckling.

I'm with you on the Daniel Smith watercolors, Nicole! I live on a (very small) disability income, and just can't justify the price, at least for more than one or two colors. I would recommend the Mijello Mission Gold watercolors, for one. Kristina Werner uses those, & I've tried the 24 color set and really like them. Of course, at least in that set, they include a tube of Chinese White, which to me is basically a useless color, since you lighten watercolors by diluting them with more water, not by adding white paint. But, there you go. Anyway, the colors are very vibrant and pigmented! I got my set off Amazon.com, but I don't know how they would work for you price-wise in Australia (I'm in America). Another brand I've tried is da Vinci, which seems comparable to Mission Gold in quality and price. I haven't worked very much with them, so I can't give them an adequate review yet. The ones of that brand I have came from dickblick.com. Again, I don't know how the prices would translate for you. Both brands are in tube form, so you'll need a palette of some sort. I have a set of 40 half pans in a tin (from Amazon) that I've squeezed my paints into and let them dry. (Each half pan has a magnetic strip on the bottom, so they will stay put in the metal tin.) I also have a ceramic palette (from Dick Blick) that I use for mixing colors, since the paints don't bead up on that like they can on plastic or metal. I hope this answers your question, and provides some help. Have a wonderful day! :)

I want to try to watercolor but want a good starter set of paints. What would you recommend for someone new?

Luckily, I have tons of Daniel Smith watercolor paint so I don’t have to buy anything.
