Fun video guys, my husband shared it with me because he knows I love making candles. The pouring pitcher in that kit is not commonly used in candle making. The one that is used has a heat resistant handle, also try adding about an inch or two of water so the pitcher can sit on its own without wobbling so you don't have to constantly hold it over the heat. You had the right idea about using a heat gun, use it to remelt the top of the jar candles and that will help with the dips/ hole in your candle. Hope this helps.
The reason why the wax in katelyn's kit took so long to melt was because it was beeswax, whereas the wax evan was using was soy wax. Beeswax has a much higher melting point than soy wax, which is why it took so long. When I make candles with beeswax I just cover the lid and chill, occasionally stirring.
I used to work for a resorts activity center. We would offer candle making to our guests. Def. Prefer the metal pot option. We used a thicker vessel directly on the hot plate and it worked great. We could melt large quantities at once . Also highly recommend picking up candle vessels, such as tealight holders, at the dollar tree. Works like a charm. Embeds are fun to add as well. Plastic & clay charms or even natural options like fern leafs with spa scents and soft pastel colors. So many options! The fan favorite was hidden "surprise" items. We would use the little gashpon(sp?) plastic eggs, hide a toy or charm then hide it in the candle. The lower melting temp of soy was is best for embeds. :-)Thanks for sharing, LOVE your content!!
It can also happen if you pour the wax while it’s too hot. This can be fixed by either just adding more wax to fill the holes or by using a blow torch to melt the existing wax so it can cool level.
@@lexthequeer Right, I was going to mention something about learning the right temp to where it's not too hot. The way wax cools is just so uneven that the less it has to cool the less uneveness there is. It sounds like I know something about this but the neighbor lady growing up was into it.

Like how they think you can use mica and soap colorant in a candle lol. Sure mica shows up, but it's not by far the best when it comes to coloring a candle. I thought it would just sink to the bottom tbh. Also, how they thought you could get away with just a few drops of an essential oil and it would still be just as strong if you burned it later. People have to use more fragrance than they realize when it comes to candles that will actually throw a scent.
I was wondering what liquid dye they used in the beginning. I've used both powder dye and liquid dye in candle making and both types mix very well (although some differences do exist). I thought maybe they should have let the wax cool a little before adding it (I'm not a candle expert however...)
19:45 Wax expands A LOT when melted. My wife and I had to work out & re-engineer pouring method/timing and tweak our moulds to account for how much the wax recedes as it cools. @Ajax White Same here! I'm watching this and cringing at so many inaccuracies as they're making it. When they mentioned "Mica Powders", I just wanted to shout "No! Never use mica in a candle!".
Wow! Great Job! I remember the first time I made candles and I did nowhere nearly as good as this! But over time I learned at started my own candle business and basically, with practice, you can do whatever you want! Once again great job guys and you never cease to amaze!
If you're actually looking in the comments for tips etc, I can tell you that the paraffin wax would probably take just as long in the double boiler as it did in the machine since it has a higher melting point than soy. Paraffin is used for making pillar candles for that reason, whereas soy has to be in a container like a jar (just be careful what type you use since some can explode when exposed to high heat). I use an old pot and a silicone container to double boil wax when I make candles (getting old, cooled wax residue out of silicone is 1000x easier than a metal jug like that). It helps to let the wax cool until its sort of like alfredo thickness to pour it, you get less collapsing that way.
So... I love crafts and I thought I would look into candle making. I've been watching various videos and I stumbled on this one. I haven't laughed that much in a long time. You guys are hilarious not to mention very informative. Thanks for the laugh and the education.
Hey Evan and katelyn I actually made scented candles for my family for Christmas so if you need some tips you can always ask me! First, you can just use a double boiler method with pots. You can buy wick at michaels or you can always take wicks (that aren’t embedded into their candles) and use those as a measurement.
I took a mold making class in college and we poured candles into our molds and the caving in has to do with the fact that wax shrinks when it cools too fast. Also! We used a fancy little crock pot with a spout and it was perfect! Kept lots of wax hot for a long time so we could pour whenever we were ready to and mix our pigments in lil silicone cups then pour into the mold!
Here is a tip: if you want to be able to smell the scent a lot then add TONSSSSSS of essential oil drops instead of just one or two and always remember to make candles in clear cups so you can see the lovely candles!

Wow! Great Job! I remember the first time I made candles and I did nowhere nearly as good as this! But over time I learned at started my own candle business and basically, with practice, you can do whatever you want! Once again great job guys and you never cease to amaze!
Evan: "you really like slapping that" grins
Katelyn: smiles and blushes
Me: Not That Type Of Chanel!
"We won't die, yay!" *High-five*
That's basically how I go through life
Also. "There's a video?" Throws instructions.
So... I love crafts and I thought I would look into candle making. I've been watching various videos and I stumbled on this one. I haven't laughed that much in a long time. You guys are hilarious not to mention very informative. Thanks for the laugh and the education.
i also need merch that says “we are not that kinda channel” 💀
Omg yes!! I also want "Give me the physics"
YES! I need a “We are not that kind of channel” shirt!
No one:
Katelyn: “does burning them give us cancer???”
It's a serious question :)
I certainly wondered if burning stuff used in resin making could produce toxic fumes.
It's actually a serious question
Evan: "We need to film again."
Katelyn: :| :) ok
Joob: >:| are you for real
It makes my heart so happy to see how much even cares when katelyn got splashed by the wax
katelyn: don’t peek!

@@raraavis7782 I'd say "get the Supurrvisor to do that" but I don't think there's enough haaaaaam in the world to pay the fee
@@EvanAndKatelyn aw man xD
Hey Evan and katelyn I actually made scented candles for my family for Christmas so if you need some tips you can always ask me! First, you can just use a double boiler method with pots. You can buy wick at michaels or you can always take wicks (that aren’t embedded into their candles) and use those as a measurement.
"Quality bottom plugs, that what I always say" - Katlelyn IM DYING, LMAO
🤣💗
Katelyn: Hey, we should do an Intro Evan: Too excite, they can read. LMAO!
When Evan just walked in and turned on the lights Katelyn looked like it was the first time she had seen light in 3 days 🤣
Your Channel is amazing it’s entertaining fun to watch and learn how the things work and it’s keeping me busy while I’m sick and lifting my spirit
Katelyn: the bottom plug.
Evan: we are not that type of channel.
Me: YOOOOOOO
I took a mold making class in college and we poured candles into our molds and the caving in has to do with the fact that wax shrinks when it cools too fast. Also! We used a fancy little crock pot with a spout and it was perfect! Kept lots of wax hot for a long time so we could pour whenever we were ready to and mix our pigments in lil silicone cups then pour into the mold!
21:57 omg that was the most ADORABLE laugh sound from Evan!
the candles for the fam were made with love. THE LOVE OF CANDLES WOWOWO

Here is a tip: if you want to be able to smell the scent a lot then add TONSSSSSS of essential oil drops instead of just one or two and always remember to make candles in clear cups so you can see the lovely candles!
