Im from florida, but my opinion on squad 1 is that its not the trucks breaking down every day, it think its the lack of fully repairing the truck. If they run out of snorkel trucks, they can buy more of them, (If that was the case) but its clearly not possible right now, so im assuming that the parts that are needed to repair squad 1 and 1a arnt available either. Now i may be wrong but im taking it as a best guess, concerning how i see the spares become the frontline and the frontlines become spares.
@@polojoe2835i know, after 2020 i have seen even restaurants go downhill, even closing down, i think its just the profit, money and taxes. It’s preventing to many things, even yesterday i went to a little attraction and went inside to buy a hot chocolate (i hate the cold alot) and i was told the price was for 5.00 and a few extra cents. Just for 1 cup💀. Then for a candy (i did not like) was for 2.00 and a few extra centa. ITS ONLY 1 CANDY😭
And my city is very republican but ofc its out of control currently cause of this. Its sad i have to compare fire trucks to candy and hot chocolate going with similar issues💀
Whats funny is I had just seen the post on social media from Batt 2 about this, and then I come on here and you got a video of the new Squad 1 and 1A. In the words of Battalion 2, "Hope no one need's the spare engine anytime soon." They just need to give it up and order some E-One's, Pierces or Seagraves and call it done.
Can someone explain these trucks …. I’m understanding that they are spares , but the spare engine acting as Squad 1A looked like it was basically stripped of equipment. What is the purpose of the 1A in general but also what’s the point here if it’s basically an empty spare engine ?
Well It is acting as a spare for the snorkel squad since there are no snorkel or even box squads available they’re all either gone or permanently OOS and will soon be gone and 1A is basically just a second Piece squad all Squads in the city have them including the one at O’Hare but the point of the extra squad is I guess so they can have extra personnel the box Squad holds 4 members and the snorkel holds 2 for a total of 6 firefighters they both always go to the same call doesn’t matter what the call is whether if it’s a fire, hazmat call, dive call, car accident they always both go together
Not from Chicago and I don’t know a lot about them but if I had to guess if that’s squad 2s district then they were probably on another call or out of service for some reason. Squad 1 might have been next closest
TBH I'm surprised squad 7 wasn't sent out since they are usually the squad to take in calls outside their district if the rescue squad is not available
For one it’s a spare rig but it has dual capabilities it can be used as a spare hazmat rig or a spare squad as well in this case it’s being used as a spare squad as there are no other ones available
They been ran out of them the first HME Snorkel which was old 5A got auctioned off on January 24th, 2020 then the next one to go was old 1A which was auctioned off on August 16th, 2024 and then last but not least old 2A which got auctioned off on September 6th, 2024 and old E23 and Sq5 have since been put permanently OOS since they are too costly for repair so now the only available spares they have is G510 and old 687!
At least they still run well this spare is 28 years old but it’s the only spare they have right now besides old 687 which is currently being used by Sq5 old E23 and Sq5 are permanently OOS they are too costly to repair

It’s not a new Squad 1 it’s a spare.
@@floridafireshots1 I know its a spare. I was joking. Fun fact though: Thats actually the OLD Squad 1. About 10 or 15 years back that was their truck.

Ivan, are firemen trained to talk down jumpers?
Usually CPDs crisis intervention team talks down the jumpers. CFD units will respond with varies equipment including a huge inflatable Jump bag unit.
