She perfected it in the second film, that scene in the Luna Temple when she first notices the relic and upon being asked what it is, simply responds with "it's mine." It sums up the the classic Core Design-era Lara nicely.
a bit late to add hear but she plays the games like for in monster hunter theirs a strong probability she plays tomb raider as well and yes she definitely nailed it it really hit me how much she sounded like lara.
I think she understood due to her and the character have a lot of the same passions for exploring, loss and seeing the beauty in the mysteries of the world. Not to mention she looked and embodied the character naturally as well.
This combat sequence was really well done and it portrayed exactly how the Lara in the video games would do. The multibackflips she did ending in a quick draw release on the landing was a perfect representation of Laras acrobat skills. the side rolling and diving while shooting is also Laras signature moves too. Very well done scene that did the games justice.
I agree! The new Lara in the video games need to develop faster because NO OTHER hero/heroine had those signature moves/weapons ( dual handguns/pistols, acrobatics). It's what made her memorable and stand out. Now she doesn't even do any acrobatics and has not dual wielded as a primary weapon set or secondary *sigh*
The Kadju As someone who’s played the mobile ports of the og Tomb Raider 1 and 2, I agree that this is the only sequence that feels straight out of a game. Still, it does a good job. I can see what button inputs corespondent to the choreography of the scene, especially with all the jumps in every which way and quickly firing upon landing-good stuff, my friend
That fight sequence was the beginning of the end of my childhood. There have been better Hollywood blockbusters than this, but they were never as fun as they were back in pre 2001
Quite often I've said movies based on videogames are never done right. Lara Croft: Tomb Raider is an exception. Was very well done. Angelina Jolie IS Lara Croft.
For a robot that mixes practical with early 2000's cgi, it holds up impressively well. part of that is the lighting I'm sure, but it goes to show how well they shot this scene.
Pretty much all the old school CGI and machinery they used (especially the planetarium) were totally nailed, imo. The planetarium scene also was done absurdly right and they hadn’t a second shot at it, since they literally blew up and flooded the whole stage
@@nicolarighetto3767 If I remember correctly, and this is like, 16 years ago, they even said the Planetarium was moving at full speed the entire time, if the crew weren't careful, someone absolutely could have gotten hurt or worse.
The part were they stand off and she loads her last magazine and the music breaks down and gears back up before they start again......chills. They don't make'em like this no more.
0:27 that was the shadow I first saw when I walked into my mom's room, her telling me Tomb Raider was on. That was the first time I saw it and that shadow matched so perfectly! Angelina Jolie became my favorite Actress because of this movie.
seeing this when I was 6 blew me away. Still to this day, the Laura vs Statues fight scene, the Laura vs Mercenaries (Mansion raid) chapter, and the opening Simon battle remains the coolest spectacle of Practical effects, Choreographics, tasteful CG, and high tier usage of 'video game mechanic concepts' I will have ever seen in any media. It is what solidifies this movie as being one of the only good Videogame To Movie adaptations ever created. Im still inspired to create a training room where I can fight a robot like simon since it seems the most appropriate use of wealth ever. Clearly whoever directed this movie was a total gamer at heart and truly understood the feeling of playing the early playstation tombraider videogames. Even though I was a boy, I WANTED TO BE the character of laura croft, and i'd rewatch this movie any time i got the chance. It helped me get into Drum & Bass thanks to the use of Outkasts' Speedballin as the end objective of this training scene. and deepened my appreciation for action puzzles, destructable map props, map hazards, and made me strongly critique any game or media where such tools of combat were not present. (I wanted to see protagonists match a fraction of Laura's resourcefulness) and as a result whenever i played a game where I couldnt shoot ropes or columns to get something to hit an enemy or cause a part of the map puzzle to open up, I wondered if the developer was just a boring person who hated fun. This movie also set a high bar for female action protags, and makes Black Widow look like a chump. Oh. and Simon would obliterate episode 3 general grievous. Gendy Tartakovsky Grievous may be a valid contender though. If Anita Sarkesian is going to whine about Laura Croft especially the protag played by Angelina, she can go get humbled by the fact that Anita herself is the polar opposite of a likeable person that iether sexes could resonate with.
Her traditional outfit since the beginning was the powder blue tank and khaki shorts. Her first wardrobe addition was her bomber jacket. After that it quickly became Dress-Me-Up Lara.

With Angelina Jolie getting back to her acting career and filming Maleficent Mistress of evil I think that a new and better Lara Croft movie about the original games would be even better
OH! I Couldn't agree More! We need Lara Croft: Tomb Raider 3. I don't care that the last was in 2003. Let's make it happen. Timing couldn't be more perfect
That's because they hardly used CGI except for Simon, Time Storms, moving Statues, and stuff like that. The rest were real. (behind the scenes explains better)
At 1:43, there's a forearm on the right side of the screen, grabbing the rope. Is that Angelina's arm? It looks much too thick and muscular to be hers, and it also looks tanned a much darker brown than she is. Even if it's a double, it looks like a man's arm.
Richard Lucero Angelina right know cannot play a role like this anymore, she is a great actress yes but this type of movies need a good shape excersise....
The 2nd Tomb Raider movie didn't do well enough(which is ironic because I thought it was better then the first movie) so it's why Jolie was never asked back to do a third movie. But now after many years later they rebooted the movie series and got a different actress to play Lora Croft.
Angelina was so damn fine in this movie. To me they may not have been the best tomb raider movies. But she had Lara croft down pat. How she reloads the guns still never seen anything resemble that till this day.
angelina is the real lara croft.....i am sad....the new tomb raider 2014 is a jung lara croft so....not with angelina...she is to old ;) but i am sure ...angelina will be the one one...the chosen one ^^
this scene has aged well and is still more entertaining than some recent blockbusters action scenes, because of the good balance between practical effects and CGI. With only CGI everywhere (and garish colors) even with good quality, it limitates the realism and the immersion
This entire film was also filmed using an old film camera, instead of a digital camera. This has a more grainy feeling, which feels very natural, in comparison to films using a digital camera, as they feel fake.
I tried to style my hair in the way, so two strands would be out like here but failed every time time, because mine are wavy and it looked stupid af XD
