  • Compared to all of the Ultra Short Throw Laser Projectors or Laser TV's that I've reviewed over the past few years the Samsung LSP9T and Hisense L9G are my favorite projectors. Although they are similar in some ways I wanted to go over some of the key differences and give you my thoughts on which one I think is best for you.

    Dude, I’m pretty new to your channel, but I am so impressed. I found you because I’m interested in the Samsung LS9T. The things you measure and report on are details that matter to me, but I’m surprised in that you actually do it. I find that with most RUclips videos, I can play at double speed and still get all the pertinent information from them. But yours, I can watch several times over and keep getting more detail from. I almost need to play it half speed to fully get everything you’re saying. Okay. This is starting to get weird, but anyway, thank you for what you do and how you do it. I hope RUclips is paying you well - you’re a true professional.

      I agree! I got interested in projectors as I find they’re easy on the eyes and I too just found this channel recently. I’ve been using a cheap £200 1080p long throw projector for over a year now and finally got the courage to purchase the lsp9t today after watching your two videos on this model. It’s costly but my room isn’t that big so throw ratio was a big factor for me. I had my eyes on the optoma p2 but decided against it. I just hope I made a good decision today! Who knows… I may even create a video about my experience on my RUclips channel one day 😉

    Excellent review - good side-by-side comparisons, emphasized the important differences, very informative, to the point without wasting the viewers time. (This was a revelation after having watched a well-know company home theater company do a "review" of the L9G which was a 15-minute read of its spec sheet!)

    The Sammie LSP9T since I own it. :) Plus, the 0.66 DLP chip just looks a hair sharper to me, but simply could be my bias. I am also not prone to the laser speckle phenomena so the Samsung again works great for me. I do like the flexibility of changing the screen size down the road and also the shorter throw distance is an advantage for me in my setup. The Hisense is a solid contender though and is impressive given it still utilizes the 0.47 DLP chip. If laser speckle bothers you, then the Hisense is definitely the easy win at those price points discussed in this excellent H2H comparison. Thanks Chris for the wonderfully thorough comparison!

ONE question.....if we through the EPSON LS500 into this mix, would you still say the Hisense is the best option of the three? Great review 👍 as always. Since I am now owning a long throw Epson with matching electric screen, is an alr screen a must, or would it be possible to use my old screen? Or are there retractable alr screen's? And I heard that some UST projectors can be used behind the screen, is that true? And if so would it work with a retractable (alr) screen?

    You're the only recommendable reviewer on USTs.
    Do you plan on doing a few more of the budget USTs?
    Popular on Amazon/Reddit such as:
    Epson LS300
    Xiaomi Mijia
    Wemax NOVA
    There's lot of other reviews on amazon/reddit and even youtube too, but they are less than helpful as they're usually very surface level and don't have a point of reference to other projectors (understandable as many people don't own much more than one UST)
    I am sure you have a huge backlog of things due to the amount of testing and production you put in, but just thought I might throw it out there! Also wanted to note, I hope you have a black friday deals round up kind of video!

    @d4m077 2 года назад +1

    Hi Chris
    Loving the content
    As you know screen , projector and speaker choice is hard unless seen in person and not to mention installation .
    All your hard work and entertainment is greatly appreciated.
    I actually have many screens and projectors.
    I have a ls500 with a 100inch chiq fresnel screen . Apart from the reflections off screen on the ceiling , I preferred to the soft alr (lenticular) as better colours and safer from damage.
    I like the Epson for lag 16ms, colour, brightness and amazing hdr (better than I have seen from any other projector and many tvs ) .
    However it eats me up inside that it is only 2k and so much softer on details. Also so far away from screen so awkward.
    Anyway I got a Black Friday deal on 88 l5 with sonic screen.
    Could you tell me if either have advantages over other?
    Before I go ahead and change everything around did you try move any l5 around to see if focused mattered or could be changed at all say a few inches? I doubt it.
    Also have you tried the sonic screen?
    Just I heard there were complaints and not as good as soft screen?
    Atmos sound any good?
    With regards to 4k120 I have found many projectors and tvs that support 4k and 120fps can get to 120 if dropped to 1440p or 1080p source and obviously whatever its still 4k (in pixels). So try see if you get 120fps at 1440/1080 that would be interesting to see the lag as will be halved or quartered. Like the optoma uhd42 etc but the quality quite bad for movies.
    Any answers would be greatly appreciated.
    Look forward to more reviews

    Hi Chris, greetings from Singapore.
    Im looking at getting a projector for my dedicated movie room, width 4m x length 6m. Movie room is light controlled with black wallls.
    I am leaning towards the L9G. For projectors below USD8000, what would u recommend?
    I know long throw projector may be better but i like having built-in apps in the projector. The L9G in SG market is slightly different and doesnt run on Android. It has built in Netflix app. But only has hdmi 2 instead of 2.1, had ARC instead of eARC.
    What projector would u recommend ?

    I prefer the Samsung cause of the bigger 0.66“ dlp chip which gives more detail in 4K UHD content. The 0.47“ dlp chip on the hisense is ok but removes some details. For me also the throw ratio of the hisense for 120“ is a show stopper since i dont want to have the projector standing in the middle of the room. Great review! Thank you.

    • @ChrisMajestic
      @ChrisMajestic  2 года назад +12

      It actually doesn't give more detail. I had a whole segment about this in the video but after I did more pixel peeping they were nearly the same and removed it. Believe it or not, the Hisense actually has an advantage because it has slightly better focus uniformity. That's the benefit of a fixed projection size.

    • @gamingfunfacts
      @gamingfunfacts 2 года назад

      @@ChrisMajestic Thats very interesting. I only compared it to a long throw 0.47“ which I own and there is a huge difference and also all general technical analysis between a 0.66“ and 0.47“ show quite big differences between a 4x and a 2x pixel shift. I wonder why it was not visible for you. Is it possible that the hisense has a 0.66“ too? I mean that big resolution difference between those two chips is almost impossible not to make a difference. On the other hand from a certain viewing distance it is sometimes even hard to tell big differences in good fullhd material and 4k movies. The hisense seems to be a very nice product. Does it also have laser speckle and just less or does it not have any speckle at all?

I'd be super interested to hear your take on the less expensive LSP7T, especially with regards to the other projectors at that price point. I can pick up the benq 7050ti for $4800 and lsp9t for $6800 but I am fine paying for either
    Is there a big difference between lspt9 is it still your favourite/ best 4k ust projector

    Thanks, Chris for your good review although I have a couple of points if I may. Regarding the comment about the LSP9 having more shadow detail, was the ambient light sensor on the L9 on/off ? Lastly, the average reaction time for gamers is about 270ms. Top gamers can maybe react down to 150ms so I'm still perplexed by the focus given to response times. That's not directed at you BTW, just putting things into context. However, I do agree that lower lag times will make the image look more fluid with less judder. Both are great so thanks again.

      @ChrisMajestic  2 года назад +3

      The ambient light sensor was off during the entire video except the black levels portion where I mentioned it.
      I'm not sure you you're a gamer or not but input lag over 100ms is noticeable even for casual gamers. It's not immediately apparent to everyone but it's a feeling that has a drastic negative impact on gaming performance. If you A/B test a TV/projector with low input lag vs very input lag with a fast paced game I guarantee you will notice a major difference. I consider myself a casual gamer and I find FPS and other fast paced games unplayable over 100ms. I will say that I find anything under 30ms negligible.

      @Fireavatar33 2 года назад

      Awesome to see Chris responding to so many of these comments.
      You're spot on when you say most humans, even professional gamers don't have a faster reaction time than 100-150 ms, but that doesn't exactly mean you can't see or feel input lag. The reality is that input lag is an additional lag that is added onto that reaction as it delays when you input onto the screen. If you've ever plugged in your laptop to a large tv with 100 ms input lag you would feel the difference just when moving your mouse cursor.
      I'm having a tough time myself picking a projector as I'm concerned any of the projectors nearing the 60-100ms mark would render many complaints considering the household and friends play a lot of smash and fighting games. Glad to see more and more of these pricey tv and projectors aiming for sub 30 (especially the Epson LS500 at around 10ms!).

    Both projectors have threads for mounting underneath, presumably so they can be ceiling mounted. All the disadvantages of ceiling mounting a UST laser projector aside, does the software support inverting the image for ceiling mounting?

    I'm looking to do an upgrade to my aging JVC projector shortly (budget ~$2k), and I'm hoing you will review some recent native 4K PJ's soon. - 135" screen and total ambient light control.

    • @marcalvarado1915
      @marcalvarado1915 2 года назад

      Which JVC are you looking to upgrade? If you are looking for a standard throw projector I am afraid you are going to be sorely disappointed in what is out there compared to the JVC. The best affordable alternatives for JVC lovers like us (I own an RS400 bought used) are the Epson 5050 and used JVCs but the ones near $2k are not native 4k. It is a shame JVC is unwilling to offer anything under 5K…

      @@marcalvarado1915 Thanks! - It's a DLA-RS45U standard throw. Do you have any recommendations? I'm not really interested in short throw.

    • @marcalvarado1915
      @marcalvarado1915 2 года назад

      @@garryhammond3117 For movies and TV I would recommend a used JVC from the RS420/520/620 or RS440/540/640 series. My RS400 does not handle HDR well natively. It can be corrected with an HDFury device but you should be able to find a later one that handles it better under $2k. The best new projector in this price range to me is the Epson 5050 as it is very bright and has decent contrast. Both the Epson and the older JVC's are not native 4K but use pixel shifting technology to present a greater than HD image. The JVC's are not the best for gaming as the input lag is not the best so if that is important I would look at the Epson. The contrast of the cheaper 4K DLP projectors is very poor compared to your JVC so it is really hard to recommend them if movies and TV are important to you. I use a super bright DLP as my sports with lights on projector in my theater but as soon as I want to watch a movie I switch over to the JVC. If you can boost your budget to $4k-$5k then you should be able to get a JVC NX5 which is native 4K and handles gaming much better.

    Hey Chris, Great comparison points and informative editing. I am looking to buy between Epson Ls500 and hisense l9g. 50% gaming and 50% Movie/tv. Mostly adventure 3rd person gaming. Not sun drenched but decent ambient light living room, not fully light controlled but have blinds. Could you tell me which one is an overall better projector long term? Thanks for the advise.

      I am also wondering why the EPSON LS500 isn’t mentioned as seems it beats the Hisense. The issue with EPSON is lack of eARC and native support for lossless Dolby Atmos. Also, the throw ratio is further from wall. But Epson is a lot brighter, a lot cheaper, 3D support, significantly less refresh lag. But I don’t know about picture quality. All are 2K projectors with shifting to 4K. So, with EPSON, need to use Amazon Fire TV plugged into an eARC splitter for Dolby Atmos into a soundbar. Meaning, not use the onboard software but that of the FireTV.

      Would also love to hear him weigh in. The Epson throw is worse and I’ve heard it’s blacks aren’t great but the faster response and being 3d capable makes it quite appealing if image quality is close.

      Since this thread is getting bigger, let me weigh in. NOT A REVIEW. Just views. I bought the L9g. I am a casual user. Have decent ambient light in living room. I don't have a dedicated room, neither will ever have one. I like living room theater. Start with hardware. Great hardware. Throw distance is fine for me. Will need adjustment so be mindful going for it. Sound is surprisingly full. Of course 5.1 will be better. Picture quality great. On wall is good. more than just viewable. Black areas appear grey. But this is a projector. So....expectations. Also I am using on a wall+ambient light. Colors are a little saturated esp. reds but can be adjusted. Gamed with ps4. Shadow of colossus just looked amazing. So did Horizon Dawn. Input lag was good. No issues while playing non competitive. waiting for my screen. Let me know if any other questions.

    Can you tweak the colors on the Samsung? It looks like the tint is set to cool. Not a fan of how blue the image appears. It looks far sharper than the Hisense though.

    Is there a real difference between in image with these projectors and the LG HU85LA? Because when I see the videos I don't see any big difference in quality and mine is even brighter in some cases, maybe the darks and when connected to a monitor, but nothing that will make me changing my current lg vs these new ones. Anyway, good videos

      The biggest benefits these projector have over the HU85LA are color vibrancy, significantly better focus uniformity, and better input lag.

    I could be wrong, but I think the reson the Hisense supports 120hz even tho it displays it a 60hz, is because is possible the HDMI input can still supports certain features added to the 120hz signal through the 60hz. But again o could be wrong. I do believe there is such a thing as a bandwidth compression which I believe is what the Hisense is doing. But I don't know to much about bandwidth signals, so I wouldn't know if there are any benefits to it. It could also be for future software updates. Who knows.
