    Welcome back to What’s For Tea :) and today for tea I made these wonderful steak and gravy pies :) I’m using ready rolled pastry, but if you make good pastry…feel free to use your own :) I’m no pastry chef, so I prefer to use ready made :)
    These are so tasty, I highly recommend you give these a go! These are so rich…that’s the red wine! If you don’t want to use red wine, just use more beef stock :)
    Everything I used will be mentioned below incase you want to make it for yourself. Thanks for stopping by,
    -Cheryl x

      @DorothySnow-jb1os I make mini pies AKA hand pies like these and have some issues with freezing them for later.

    Absolutely beautiful. I love the mix to shortcrust and puff pastry. Thank you for reposting the video for a us new channel members. While I do not have the mini pie tins I can certainly see where making a dozen of these and freezing them for future meals would better justify the time required to make this. Thank you for the time given to share your talents with us.
    ps: this video should be #2 to your shortbread video! Anyone reading this go watch the shortbread video!!!

    Your wee individual steak pies look absolutely delicious Cheryl 😍😋, I’m going to miss your wee wee festive intro jingle! Think I might invest in some of those Lakeland pie dishes, I already have some wee 4” individual spring form pie tins, but they’re quite deep & I’d probably end up only get a couple of pies from this amount of filling. Any idea what size pastry cutter you used to cut out the pastry Cheryl, as I don’t think I have one large enough & might have to order one of those as well. Thanks 🙏 as always for sharing this fab recipe & look forward to trying it out! 👩🏻‍🍳👌😋🥰💕💞💖

    Professional tip: If you don't have rice or dried beans for blind baking, use dirt. It leaves a wonderful earthy flavour that keeps everyone guessing what that 'special aroma' is. Check for worms first. The poor buggers explode and they taste terrible.

    Sure gonna try this! And I also have 2 variations in mind. I'm also following Glen and friends cooking from Canada. Glen is collectiong cookbooks of old (the earliest from 1650 somewhat?). (Btw: his granny was scottish.) He's using a bit of marmite in many of his beef dishes. And he also found that, in days of old, white wine was used even with dark meat like beef. He stated, that white wine is not so overpowering the flavour of the beef with it's tannin. Interesting twist! (Still need to try that.) Reversly to that, I once had chicken with a red wine sauce. And it was fantastic!
    So much about some of "the golden rules", we are following these days. To me: much too fascitating to not try it out.
    Greetings from the far north of Germany!

    Oh, these look delicious and easy!!
    Question: Can you refrigerate or freeze these? It's a one person house here, and I'd love these for weekly lunches and dinners!

    • @kimlindseyOH
      @kimlindseyOH 8 дней назад +1

      I've made them several times & they keep well, refrigerator or freezer. With the shortcrust bottoms, they pop out so easily & you can freeze them, then put them right back into the little pans to reheat later - brilliant! & easy!

      I use a "white merlot" (supermarket wine) & the recipe turns out great. I use wine just for cooking, not to drink, so I encourage you to not let that stop you - unless it's an allergy, then of course use just stock. I hope you try these tasty pies!

    Cheryl I cannot thank you enough for this recipe! I've made it several times and everyone loves them! Sometimes I use ground steak ("mince") since it's easier and a bit less expensive, and I don't use the tomato puree but I do add a dash of powdered garlic and (my secret ingredient LOL) a good amount of "Montreal Steak Seasoning" which is common here in the US. Yum! So tasty! Sometimes my bottom (short)crust shrinks a lot during pre-baking - any tips on that? Maybe mine is too thin? Next time, I'll make this with steak like you do! Thanks again!
