I love cooking......when my children were little they thought it was a super duper treat to get fish fingers as everything else was home made :) Makes me laugh thinking about it!!!!! My daughter has grown up making homemade stuff and my son Steven cooks and also bakes. He actually made his girlfriends family their birthday cakes.......Good on you son, you did listen to me after all :()
This is unbelievable. After watching this lady cooking and I’ have never cooked. Im given it a try. Cheryl makes it look so easy !!! God knows what I will end up with but practice makes perfect!!! One tip I think ? If your making some of Cheryl’s dishes. Play the video like someone watching over you. Watching these videos has given me a little confidence to even try !! Thank you Cheryl
My mom's dad was a super cook.
@Paul Sowney...My dad was a fantastic cook! Even if it doesn’t turn out perfectly, it’ll still be edible, so “keep on keeping on” as the song says, and you’ll end up being a brilliant cook.
This is exactly how people have always learned to cook. First, you watch Mom / Nana / Chef do it, then they watch you repeat it. After that, it is practice makes perfect time. Good luck, and a Happy cooking!
I became a good cook after having a girlfriend who was a chef and I refused to allow her to cook because she was doing it all week at the restaurant. And she loved it, never knowing how my attempts were going to turn out. And she did "appreciate" it!!!!
I loved this video!, the pie looks amazing!... I'm in Scotland too, going to give this a go! Steak pie is the perfect autumn/winter meal with mashed tatties & roasted veggies... Thank you!.😋👌💖
Hello from a Kiwi living in Australia. I love your videos, it’s like watching myself cook all the old family favorites. My mother’s side is Irish and my father’s family is Scottish it’s all the same traditions. Thanks for your channel 🙋🏼♀️😊
I’m forever grateful to my mom who taught me to only cook home cooked meals. I’ve raised my kids this way as well. They hate prepared/frozen foods. They hate frozen dinners and can’t stand most of the kids microwave snacks (pizza rolls, hot pockets etc). Now I just watch cooking shows for dinner ideas! I can’t wait to try some of these recipes! Thank you so much for your videos!!
"Chillax... oh dear, the jokes are bad" you are absolutely adorable. Thank you for sharing your recipes and techniques.
Thanks for watching Cheryl :)

Your great for teaching young mothers how to make proper meals for the family so easy to follow glad I found you xx
Aw that's very kind of you :) Glad you found us too x
I'm a single guy 35 years old and these are useful lol
@@Boudiccanyc Yeah bud, all adults need to learn how to cook, young or old, single or in a relationship. Even people who know how to make a bunch of things could do with widening their repertoire.
Rough puff is an easier alternative to actual puff pastry. I think it's just as good. Your demo was perfect I was just thinking how lucky your family is to have all your delicious home cooked meals.
I really think that yours is the best channel for teaching us how to cook! The recipes are simple, well explained and economical which is what I need now. (My daughter started a GoFundMe for me) Thank you so much for these recipes. God Bless!
I love all your recipes such good hearty food. Love your accent also 😃 big hello from Australia 🇦🇺
"Stir with a knife, stir up strife" superstition jumped into my head watching this, daft I know 😂 this looks delicious.
What a fantastic pie recipe ! Made it today it’s gorgeous, thank you lovely lady 🤗
Your jokes aren't bad. They are funny. Plus I have used the word chillax for years. Perfect combo!!! I am new to your channel and loving the cooking.
OMG, I cant wait to try this!!! I am german/irish, and i love learning new recipes!!
That’s a lovely looking pie!
It was super tasty :) x
Frying onion, naw hen, that's a primordial thing. There's no' a country in the world that doesn't salivate at the smell of browning onions 😋😋💖
Hello from Michigan, USA. I just found you here a few weeks ago. I have made a few of your recipes. They were good. I made individual Cottage Pies and froze all but one, which I ate that night. Husband doesn't like them. He can be a picky eater. I like your recipe better than the one I have been using. Also the beef stew with orange marmalade. My paternal grandfather, born in 1900, was from Aberdeenshire, and came over with his family in 1906. I am glad that I found a Scottish woman who cooks real recipes the true way. I also love your accent. Your weekly shopping got me to go back to using Aldi. I do have to look up and convert grams, Celsius and mark 5. My maternal grandmother was from Canada, so I have no problems with your way of speaking. I know that tea time is our supper, you sit on the Chesterfield instead of a couch, running shoes are tennis shoes, etc. Keep up the great show.
Thank you Cheryl, you make cooking from scratch so easy and lovely. You are the best!
Lovely , my mother would make this periodically throughout the winter ,, Devine ..
You are a very good ‘home cooking ‘ chef.
I see others on here who haven’t got the faintest idea of the concept of making ‘good’ pastry.
Basically, it’s the opposite of bread making.
That’s a good rule of thumb.
Everything cold, as little touch as possible,, and not at all wet.
You’ve nailed it!!
Well done!!!
Looks gorgeous xxx
Just love your videos Cheryl and your warm personality.. I am a reasonable cook but have still learnt lots from you. 😍😍🏴
You are so welcome :) xxx
Thank you for sharing you made this pie making look so easy, and professional. Looks amazing. Thank you.
Hiya :) It is quite easy....the dough needs quite a bit of rolling and tough on the upper arms lol. Thanks for your lovely comments x
When I was a kid in Paisley in the 50's, we used to order an ashet pie from the local butchers for Hogmanay. From what I remember, it also icluded chipolata links, but am I mistaken? It was delicious and was served in the afternoon of Xmas day, as that wasn't a public holiday in Scotland, so the men went to work and knocked off at midday.Hogmanay was our holiday, but not in England.
Brilliant!!.. Traditional always is the way to go..Thank you...
I’m watching this at 12am and it’s not the best time to watch when you’re feeling hungry. Looks delicious I feel like licking my phone screen just looking at it lol xxx
LOL Shamima :) Never watch food videos after 12pm....x
Good Lord, looks delicious!
You are the lady David Attenborough of food commentary 😊
When I lived in Scotland for a few months with my kids, we became familiar with Steak Pie and of course, Fish and Chips. I'm so glad I found this video! Love your accent and thank you for sharing how to make this. I will make this very soon for my family here in Texas. My kids will be thrilled. They are adults now :-)

I love your accent and lovely recipes ❣️. Sending you love from Boulder, Colorado USA. (McFatridge is my maiden name). I love Scotland!
I love the scots accent, just great. The recipes as well
How lovely. The thought of eating a classic steak pie on a chilly evening in Scotland.
My gran puts diced potatoes and carrots in the filling with the meat (usually pork), and sometimes green peas.
'so don't come for me' haha brilliant. Love it.
:D
Hello there Cheryl, what a lovely gift. How kind of those butchers, sending you that pack of delicious 😋 food. Well done, congratulations lovely watching x
Hi Cheryl I just discovered your channel. Great listening to your lovely accent. My mums accent was a wee bit heavier despite being in America for 40 years. Love steak pie and make my own for New Year and my sister has been doing it also. Only difference is that I use beef sausage in my pie. Keep up your great work. We were from Glasgow.
With every video, it just gets better and better. why has RUclips waited so long to through this gem of a channel into my recommended!
I love your recipes and LOVE your accent. Thanks
This conjures up memories of family sized steak pies made for Boxing Day or New Year’s Day - and often for a comforting meal on coming back with close family from a wake.
Simply ,thanking you for your time,to teaching,us, is going to be the best,
I would probably use a bit of the beef broth to deglaze the pan of all the tasty bits left from searing the steak.
Hello from Canada 🇨🇦 just ran into your recipes so I’m a newbie to your station You reminded me of my Scottish aunt she was a good baker and cook also I really enjoyed your pies and your crust looks so good to try So shopping tomorrow got to try to make pastry So thankx again will be watching for some more later Blesses for now niters 🥱😴
Looks like an amazing recipe - I'd almost like to put some potato and carrot in the mix for a hearty (even more) stew filling.
Love your vids. I could listen to you talk all day.
You're jokes are GREAT!!! I love this recipe and will try it soon. Thank you for taking time to post this video.. I love your accent! I'm an American without much accent.

This looks fantastic! What a lot of care you take with the pastry. Will give it a go.
Who in the world would give any of Cheryl's videos a thumbs down? smh 🙄🙄🙄
Pastry is one of those things that I always buy store bought, but after watching this, I'll definitely give it a go.
Do it in your food processor, 30 seconds. Google Pat Brise.......great.
This looks delicious! I’d not heard of putting a little lemon juice in the pie crust, but will definitely try it next time. Also, I will add some more veg. Thanks so much for all your appetizing videos!
Don't know if you will see this as it I so long after your comment, but vinegar will do the same as lemon juice if you don't have lemon juice on hand. Use the same amount.
I’m in America and am in love w your accent and also your food!
Amazing!
That looks really good. Nice technique for pie dough. 😊
It's a lot quicker than making puff pastry from scratch Catherine :) If I've more time, I would do puff x
Yum... thanks again for sharing this fab recipe xx

I live in America and, I love this channel. I am making this for my family this weekend. It looks really tasty.
I don't know how you managed to do it. but when the picture of the pie, plated up with the mash and peas, appeared on my screen, I could honestly smell the delicious aromas of the beef and pastry. I'm now just so hungry!!

Where I live, the steak pies are made with Shortcrust pastry. SHORTCRUST PASTRY!!! Ye canny beat a Scottish steak pie. PUFF PASTRY 👍. Now that's MAGIC. You're a 💎 Cheryl x
Fantastic ,thanks from Alberta.Glasgow lad here.
I have just subscribed.Your recipes are simple and straightforward (just like me!) which i like.I am glad to see you brown the meat before hand as i think it gives it a better taste and it removes any lingering bacteria...Looking forward to more recipes,Hen.

I have lost me mind, girl. I swear I could smell the meat frying in the beginning! On the list for this weekend. Thank you for your content.
Now that's a beautiful Pie! 👍👍👍 I must try making this. Thanks for sharing. 😊
Merry meet from South Africa. Looks delicious will definitely try it
Your very clever I love your videos a proper home comfort recipe xx
A proper traditional pie with top and bottom yum
Love your channel. Been living in the States for a while now and this is exactly what I've been missing:)
I love your pie tin!!! I need something like that
Thank you for this recipe.. I have many friends from Scotland living in California.. I must make it for them..
My slow cooker really handy because of the insert it's safe to put on all hobs, so I don't have2 dirty another pan. Just put the insert on the heat, fry the meat, etc - then allow it to cool enough to handle and then place it into the machine, add other ingredients and off we go. This pie looks yummy..
..have the other half requesting it for 2moros dinner!!! 🥮
I live in Arizona but it’s a dry climate. I still have to pop it in the freezer between each fold which is why I don’t make it anymore. Lol
Love traditional foods
Enough for three persons? What do you have else? I made a pie with green beans from the garden. And I took diced butter and flour and stired it with a hand mixer. And then it was a bit difficult to get it into the dish, but I maneget. This video taught me something about rolling short paste.
Fantastic pie , mouths watering already, keep um coming !!
With you on the frying onion smell! Nothing better than hotdog or weird burger from a van :-)
On a chilly night - looks so yummy! I haven't made it yet but plan to when I go grocery shopping to get the meat!! Deb :-)
Great channel...subbed
Wow you made that look so easy this is my first go at a pie just hope it comes out half as good as yours….here go..
Fried Onions just remind me of the Carnivals, I'm from Glasgow so we only had the Carnivals at Glasgow Green and Kelvin Hall once a year, but you always had that pervasive smell of Onions as you walked around. Love your channel, basic, good, wholesome, home cooking. I will be trying a few out, the Stovies for example look brilliant. Subbed and looking forward to more . Thank you and keep safe x
Try cooling the filling first, that way you will not have a soggy bottom, nice pie.
@16:06 I've never seen gravy this thick OMG Yumm! ♥
Love the jokes. Puntastic!
Yum yum I’m going to make one this weekend 👍👍👍🏴
Wow that looks amazing xx
Great video, as always. I love the consistency of the instructions, the personality that comes through, and the way you make it really about the food and not about yourself even though you share your memories with the dishes you share, which is wonderful. Can’t wait to try this. Looks absolutely mouth watering.
Do people there make Haggis at home? Or is that usually just bought made and taken home?
Love your channel! Best wishes from New Jersey, USA!
Hi there :) I've never known anyone to make haggis....it's usually just bought from a shop and cooked! Thanks for watching and Happy New Year!
If you can, always get McSween’s haggis!
