  • Eyeglass wearers use binoculars. That’s no secret, and a big reason our binoculars feature high-quality twist-up eyecups. But are there other things a person may need to consider? In this listener request, we grab Mr. Mike McDowell to take this topic on through his lens (pun intended).
As always, we want to hear your feedback! Let us know if there are any topics you'd like covered on the Vortex Nation™ podcast by asking us on any one of our social media platforms and using #VortexNationPodcast.

I'm an eyeglass wear for the last, almost four decades and I love my Viper 8x42s. With eye cups down I get a full crisp, clear, field of view. I'm a big proponent of 8x42s, I live and hunt in the West and glass behind my house, where the elk and deer are over a mile away. I don't have any problem finding them on the mountains.
    Great topic, thank you.

Would be awesome to see a 10 min talk on popular but not yet commercial wildcats, even another full length podcast on wildcats and discussing advantages and disadvantages of wildcatting and some of the products and cartridges that have appeared over the years from wildcatters

I’ve been considering calling and asking this question. So thanks! Think I may have to try something different, as my Diamondback 10x42s don’t have quite enough eye relief to work well with my glasses.

Nikon’s Monarch 10x42 have a 18.4mm eye relief. The Diamondback only have 15mm. They are about the same price.

What is the best way to adjust the diopter?

Needing glasses My entire life I have noticed vortex optics are always compatible with glasses! I have had issues with low end optics not leaving enough eye relief that I can't get a good picture with glasses

I have a Vortex Viper HD 6x32. Excellent binocular. I also tried the 10x50 in same series. Both are excellent with eyeglasses.
Unfortunately the successors in Viper-series have sacrified eye relief in order to get larger field of view.
I was very dissatisfied when I tried the new Viper HD 8x42 and they did not work well with eyeglasses, even with eye cups in bottom position.
Wide field of view is good, but not on the significant expense of eye relief.

Sometimes, I'll keep the eyecups out all the way when I take my eyeglasses off. I still have a binocular from the mid 80s with the roll down eyecups. The really like the twist cups.

I started wearing glasses at 44-45 and now 52…..I hate using bino’s and spotting scopes when wearing them. Most times when im hunting i keep my glasses in a case in my pocket. I only need them to read or use my phone.

I'd like to remove my eyeglasses or safety glasses at the range for spotting, but we can't take off eye glasses at the shooting range to look thru binoculars.

You have to be careful when talking to or listening to Mike. I used to be happy with my Diamondback products. Now, all I will buy is the Viper stuff and I feel a little guilty for not owning any Razor gear. Well played Vortex, well played.

Why not make the eyecups flush?

    • @ELRas53
      @ELRas53 2 года назад +1

if the eyecups were flush, you'd have more risk to damage the lens

That’s when eye relief comes in. They work the same as a camera viewfinder.

You could even add that most corrections on eye glasses are more subtile than the offered corrections on a pair of binoculars. If you look only at dioptries which are typically offered between -4/3 to +3/4 isn't sufficient if your eyes (no matter of far or short eyed) are corrected further. I disagree with Mike on the far eyed that you don't need your glasses. Your sight will be better with either glasses or contact lenses in every case (of more subtile corrections)! 😇

If you have prisms in your glasses just go for the monocular.

Without putting the eyecups on your face, you don't get a very sturdy image, which makes movement a lot harder to detect. With glasses, I find that unless the binos are on a tripod(or monopod), they're not that useful. Take the glasses off, and I don't need a pod.
